I think this is a smart choice.
It is much more accessible for the country audience than "Shut Me Up". While the later had better musicianship, I think this song will get them on mainstream radio.
Once a label takes over it will only take off more.

Wow, this is fantastic. I really like the groove of the verses! From both of the songs I've heard from these guys, they're really different and I can see them being a big hit.

If you only heard "Shut Me Up," go look their EP on spotify. It's pretty diverse sonically. "Wrong Turns" and even "Nowhere Fast" all sound like future hits. Not bad for the band who a year ago was stepping out with the spoken, loop-y "Dirt On A Road." --- This single will eventually be their 'first single' for a major partner. That's coming. The song has sold remarkably well and their EP even charted last week for the first time because of SiriusXM.

Double Post to add the single cover and this quote from program directors: "I've never done this before: Hear a song that's not a single and just go put it on the air and pound it,” says Ed Hill, Program Director at CBS Radio's KMPS in Seattle. And SiriusXM’s John Marks says, “The song is truly a breakout hit." More from Hill in the RS storyIt has seven adds as of this week.

Sounded a little like Macklemore's piano part in their song "Same Love" at the beginning. I do love this song though. It sounds very different than anything I've heard on Country radio.

So I've listened to this song a few more times and I become more and more addicted after each listen. This is gonna be a huge hit for these guys if a label is smart enough to jump on this

Yeah it's a decent song overall, but the quick spoken part really irritates me for some reason. It's the best song I've heard from them on The Highway, as a few others I've heard really walk the line between bro-country and rock. Looking at this song in a vacuum it could do well, but however I think labels are sitting back a little to see how the genre plays out over the next couple months. The needle hasn't turned back towards a traditional sound, but I think the needle isn't moving forward towards Rock/Hip Hop either.
Just my 2 cents though.

They're on a major tour (Kenny Chesney), They have a major management company and have The Highway backing them for early airplay, which has helped this single and their EP chart on the Billboard Country Digital Single/Album charts. They are ALSO close to signing a major deal. So, I'd say this has a very, very good shot at being a big ole hit for Old Dominion (though it's likely to take most of 2015 to get there).

The needle hasn't turned back towards a traditional sound, but I think the needle isn't moving forward towards Rock/Hip Hop either. Just my 2 cents though. I think you're right. Right now Country is bouncing back and forth between it's roots and other genres. One week Meanwhile Back at Mama's (which is very traditional) is number one and the next another Bro/R&B Country song is. While I am a fan of both sides really, I think even the general public is growing tired of the same themes that have created the fracture in Country music today. It really depends on what some of the major acts do and release in the next months. Blake has gone more traditional while Jason Aldean and FGL are sticking to the formula...though Aldean has some singles that, if released, would pair him with Blake in this sense. In the end, it'll probably come down to Luke Bryan's new album and whether it's predominately Bro-Country or more traditional, because he is the genre's biggest star and no matter what he releases, it's going to sell, but the direction he takes influences the B and C level artists that fill out the rest of Country radio. On first listen it doesn't really strike me as anything ground breaking, but I'll reserve judgement until I have given it a couple more listens.

I actually like this song for the most part as well but those verses still get under my skin. It's not nearly as cringy as "Take Your Time" with its spoken lyrics but I just feel they aren't necessary in most songs that incorporate them. That being said, the chorus and subject is great and I agree about this being their most accessible single to date. "Shut Me Up" was just okay while "Dirt On A Road" was an embarrassment. Like jhomes87 and rsmatto have pointed out before, these guys should be announcing a new major label agreement shortly and this song should be the first major label single due to its success on The Highway..
Speaking of The Highway and this song; I hear this far too often - especially on the weekends with their Top 45 Countdown. Last Saturday, no joke, I heard this four times in one day. I heard it as the week's hottest shaker or whatever they called it at the beginning and then as the #1 song at the end. Then I heard it on the way to a restaurant with some friends in the evening, then on the way home that night.
The song's pretty good but my goodness gracious The Highway. Give. It. A. Rest.

Given that Columbia radio regionals were at a recent show outside of Nashville (as shown in AirCheck), if it's not that label, I'd be shocked.

This song got a nice add in Aircheck this evening and it appears that RCA is ready to give this one a push as their official first single for the label. It saw an increase of 30 spins 270k in audience on Billboard's airplay chart.

Didn't like it on first listen and it became "just ok" on second listen, so perhaps this one will be a grower for me. But as it is, I don't enjoy it. It's radio friendly enough and I do hear the catchiness of it, but otherwise I think it's pretty lackluster all around. I clicked on the thread because Old Dominion sounded familiar to me. I remember liking the chorus of their song "Shut Me Up" but not the song as a whole. I re-listened though and have to say I would definitely take it over this one. I don't think I know anything else by them. I did listen to "Dirt On A Road" and that one has such an awful verse that the chorus can't even begin to make up for it.

As expected, RCA re-shipped this to radio today and the new add date will be May 11th.

I'm still hooked on "Shut Me Up" and "Break Up With Him" just seems to not connect as easily as the previous single. Can only applause this move and commitment by RCA. Just hope that the track will not get lost in the A-Lister's turmoil of singles for late summer/early fall peak; and suffer the same way as Logan Mize is who seems to be always catching the bad drift on each add date.

This one already has proven to be successful on The Highway - like really successful, and it's the song that got them signed to RCA. I'm not going to predict any crazy numbers on station adds on May 11th, but RCA is putting some of their money in an artist that has shown potential. Think of it like Hollywood and movies. Many new movies now are just remakes and film adaptions of books, because they are the closes thing to a guarantee. Nothing is guaranteed with the music industry, but I actually find this signing a logical one (no-brainer, really) and they would have been insane not to re-ship this to radio as the group's first major label single.

Wow! wasn't aware that SiriusXM had them on high rotation: 46 spins (down 5) KMPS Seattle WA: spun it 37 times (up 14). Thought that current support was more widespread and on mainly on smaller stations. Drives me nuts sometimes when a couple of stations (Chicago, Boston, New York, Los Angeles, Dallas, San Antonio, Houston, Miami, Atlanta, etc.) have such a clout on the (lower portion of) the chart just because of Audience Impressions.

That's ridiculous. I don't really listen to the radio so such things always baffle me. Look at the spins from WEBG Chicago, IL: Last week 6 songs had 100+ spins... ! 1 BRETT ELDREDGE Mean To Me 112 1112 ZAC BROWN BAND Homegrown 111 112

I could listen to Say You Do 112 times and be happy. Hee hee. But I do agree with you trebor. There are very, very few songs I would EVER want to listen to that frequently, and when BUWH was being spun that frequently, there was a lot of station changing going on.

The spoken "Hey girl, wassup?" is a non-starter with me. Do not care for this at all.

No announcement on AllAccess yet (is today a holiday or something?), but it's looking like this will be the week's most added song.

No announcement on AllAccess yet (is today a holiday or something?), but it's looking like this will be the week's most added song. Sometimes the All Access is super slow. Usually they have the story of the most added song between 3 and 4 p.m, ET, but every now and then they put it up super late (like today, and it's not even up as of now, lol). No announcement on AllAccess yet (is today a holiday or something?), but it's looking like this will be the week's most added song. 36 on Mediabase. That's pretty much what I expected. Remember, "Break Up With Him" was already added to 32 stations before today.
