Making this because of Josh's question here: Kurt, can we have a thread solely to link to free music? Personally, I always forgot to check the new free songs on iTunes each week, and I know there are (sometimes) free songs/albums on Amazon, Google Play, and various other places as well. I think having a thread where people could post when stuff gets made free would be pretty beneficial. iTunes now has 15 songs free to download: I think Single of the Week is back, but in a new form! There are now 15 free songs on iTunes now. If you click the 'Free on iTunes' button on the home page (the banner, not the quick link), you can discover them. Seems to look like the Amazon free songs thing that they just recently discontinued. Hopefully this is a regular thing. The songs are: "Been Waitin'" by: Nude Beach "Simple Machine (Alternate Version)" by: Guster "If It Does" by: Robin Bacior "Feel the Volume" by: Jauz "For No One" by: Houndmouth "Now We Die" by: Machine Head "Face the Fire" by: Michelle Chamuel "Tired Oak" by: Jessica Hernandez & The Deltas "Break Down the Walls" by: Asking Alexandria "Brother, Do You Know the World?" by: Hiss Golden Messager "Unkinder (A Tougher Love)" by: THUMPERS "Obedear" by: Purity Ring "Eyes" by: Rogue Wave "It All Feels Right" by: Washed Out "Infinite Cities" by: The Bright Light Social Hour ETA: Or click here: itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewFeature?cc=us&id=960482947 (US link) Amazon has free songs from several of their 2015 Artists to Watch (click through to see if the artist has a free track - apparently they don't playlist the free ones anymore). Google Play's monthly Antenna Sampler: linkFree album of the week: Motley Crue - The Greatest HitsAlso free thanks to a promotion during his turn hosting/performing on SNL last night: Blake Shelton - Bringing Back The Sunshine

Ah...maybe Non-Radio Singles would make a bit more sense? With the thread sticky-ed in that forum.

Great idea, Google play releases lots of free music.

This is awesome! I have a Google Play account and I'll pick up stuff when I hear about it, but it's not a regular stop. I rarely get emails and such alerting to the free albums or other deals, so this is great. Thank you!
And I do think iTunes is making a mistake. There are plenty of emerging acts they could feature, but I think they're focused on launching a viable streaming model - through Beats - that will attempt to crush the big players. Even though they are late, they have the pockets to do it.

"How Could You Babe" by Tobias Jesso Jr. now shows up among the free iTunes songs - it's just not available in the U.S. store. >:(

Heh, I actually don't even really need to download it - admittedly, I'm "meh" on the song. It's the showing up among the free songs and then subsequently being told "not available" that irritated me.

how many of those are actual songs though Actually quite a bit. There's some that are like intros and stuff like that, but most of them are songs you've never heard of. I know they have Kendrick Lamar songs on there, but they're from his mixtapes. ETA: The "island band" Panama Wedding has a song on there lol. And looking further, some are like soothing sounds, like there's an hour long audio of just rain lmao.

I see lots of classical stuff and a bunch of no-name artists, which brings me back to the original question - how many of those are actual songs, lol

iTunes has a new selection up, including Sharon Van Etten, WATERS, Joshua Radin featuring Sheryl Crow, SOHN, and Penguin Prison. Lifehouse's new single "Hurricane" is also free.

Are you trying it through the album? I noticed that on the album (clean version btw) is $1.29, while the Free on iTunes page shows it for free. Maybe it's not fully updated then? ETA: It's showing 'get' on the album too now, where before it wasn't.

I noticed it was showing $1.29 on the album page, but wasn't sure if that was normal for the free songs or not. Still showing $1.29 for me, though. Hmm.

I just tried to download it, and it worked. I checked my account info. and it didn't charge me. Though, I didn't get the message for charging it, so if you were to try it again and got the message again, I wouldn't risk it.

Maybe this is an old deal, but Ain't it Fun is free on Google Play. Even if you got it on, say, NOW 51, it's worth checking out because the album mix is significantly different from the single/radio edit.

Worth also noting that among this week's iTunes selection, it's still a mix of old and new songs - albeit, this week nothing's older than last year.
Point being that it wouldn't surprise me if this continues to be the case for the time being - where a given week's free slate is an old/new mix, rather than a full slate of new.

The list currently is: Ain't it Fun / Paramore Delirious (Boneless) / Steve Aoki [NOTE: Though unlisted, this is the vocal version with Kid Ink] Just Gettin' Started / Jason Aldean My Sweet Summer / Dirty Heads Diamonds / Rihanna Ghosts 'n Stuff / deadMau5 feat. Rob Swire Wanted / Hunter Hayes Without You / David Guetta feat. Usher Icky Thump / The White Stripes Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) / Green Day
