Guessing this ends up being the second single too - I feel like I keep seeing mentions of this in promotional press (e.g. "featuring "I Bet My Life" and "Shots"").

Audio:
Pretty poppy, but I like it. Both "I Bet My Life" and "Gold" grew on me immensely, so this is my least favorite, but that might change. This seems like it could fit on Alt, as it's not far off from the indie pop that has been on there recently.

I like it more than the other 2 songs we've heard for this album.

This isn't that great but it sounds like it might be a decent pop single. If I had to rank so far, I'd go,
1. Gold 2. I Bet My Life 3. Shots
This song seems lifeless to me so far, the other two have those annoying noises in the background but I've already gotten past them and I really enjoy Gold.

This and "Gold" are both terrible. "I Bet My Life" is alright, but I'm not too excited for their album now.

Sent to Alt radio on this week's HitDisc compilation. Guessing a pop push will follow later, considering "I Bet My Life" is just getting started at CHR.

This is my favorite I've heard this era. Same here. It sounds like something off of their last album.

Yeah this is easily the best song so far this album era. It reminds me of "It's Time", but still sounds fresh and has a life of it's own. Glad to see it's getting released second.

The change from the usual bombastic production to the lighter indie instrumentation (sounds like they've been listening to The 1975 or something) is interesting but lyrically this just sounds like a retread of "Demons" or "I Bet My Life". Better than the last two singles, though, and I can see this growing on me in the future.
Bonus points for not having any annoying screeching in the background.

This seems to be lacking the character that "Imagine Dragons" created for themselves, but that isn't a bad thing, it's just different from their last album. Cant say that it fits my palette. It feels like a bad indie pop song.

More synths. Goes well with his falsetto vocals. Still, If they wanna make a good Indie Pop song, I would think ,they could do it better than thier peers? I can get into this so much more than the disasters; that were, "I Bet My Life" and "Gold" ;which I clicked off ,after the first chorus came around.

Music video:
This is really well done. It's a replication of the single covers for the album tracks that were painted by Tim Cantor. Really cool idea.

It looks like I might just chart Another Imagine Dragons song very soon. The melody during the verses is something I really like. His falsettos fit perfectly.

Album leaked. It's a step down from Night Visions, with some good songs - "I'm So Sorry", "It All Comes Back to You", "Dream" and lots of shit ("Gold", "Trouble", "Fiction, "Polaroid", "Hopeless Opus"). 2/5.

Where is the leak at? The more I listen to this song the more I love it. Probably my favorite single from them since Radioactive.

I'm a little more positive towards the album, It's definitely a step down from "Night Visions" but it's not terrible. It's actually the change they need to stay relevant. I sense a "stadium" vibe while listening to this album, flashing back when I saw them live in 2014 at the ACC. These songs will sound great live.
I give the album a 6.9/10 chuckles.

I thought the album was pretty good. After "Dream" it takes a big tail and the last four (and the bonus tracks) are underwhelming. I think "Dream" might turn into one of my favorite songs they've ever done. It's really good. I liked this, "Gold", "I'm So Sorry", "I Bet My Life", "Friction" and "Dream" a lot. Where is the leak at? The more I listen to this song the more I love it. Probably my favorite single from them since Radioactive. Go to josepvinaixa.com and search for it. I'd post the link, but it contains a download link, which is against Pulse guidelines.

I Bet My Life sounded like a calculated attempt to garner Mumford & Sons hipster appeal...it seemed very inauthentic
So I wasn't going to give this any attention, but Dr Indie's positive review got me to listen & I like this much better. It has a Coming Of Age vibe to it, but not quite as good. We'll see if this can hold my interest over the next few listens

After a couple more listens I still think is a decent tune, probably their best since "It's Time", but I'd like it so much more if they'd written better lyrics to it and cut down on the annoying falsetto sections (That "Oh! I'm gonna mess things up!" section in particular irks me the most)

I don't think the new album is anywhere as bad many made it seem. The first half seemed pretty good with a lot of variety from the energetic sound of "Shots" to "Friction," which it's been said to have hip-hop influences. Some people have said they don't really like "Gold," but I didn't hear a problem with it.
I don't think "I Bet My Life" was the best choice for a first single as it sounds too much like a Mumford & Sons song and there are better songs overall on the album. I feel like once you get down to "Dream" if you go in order of the tracklisting kind of turns the album downward and the last four out of five songs seem like snoozers.
I had to listen to "Night Visions" after listening to "Smoke & Mirrors" since it's been awhile. While this new album might not be nearly as good, I don't think it's such a steep drop. I think there were more clear singles on "Night Visions," which make it stand out more overall.

First listen of the album, didn't like it as much as Night Visions but could see it growing on me. (would be pretty hard to top Night Visions after a first listen though)
Really enjoyed Friction, Dream, and I'm So Sorry out of the songs I hadn't heard. The chorus of Smoke & Mirrors scared the s**t out of me, it was so unexpected. Regarding my opinions of the pre-released tracks , I'm still loving Gold, Shots has grown a bit and I think I can definitively say I don't like I Bet My Life now, after going back and forth on it for months.
For both better and worse, this was more experimental than the last album. Those background noises in a bunch of the songs don't bug me at all anymore either.
