Well, now it's totally dead of pop. So time to prepare a release of Like i can and perform that song on the billboard awards. He really needs to release something uptempo, because if he won't do that, he risk a bad reception of a non ballad song from his following album, he needs to prove the american audiences he is not a one trick pony (even if the album is full of ballads) he had the adavantage of his collaborations, but even if it ends not being a big hit, and uptempo is totally necessary right now. In Uk he doesn't have such problem because 2 of his 5 singles are uptempo.
He needs to move his ass, learn a couple of dance moves and release Like i can. Frankly i will never undertand why he released Like i can as third single. I thought it would be because the Grammys performance but he ended performing Stay with me there.
Like i can is not even a risky move, so it's all to win and nothing to lose, and i'm pretty sure it will have even a positive impact on album sales

I'm still not sure how they thought this was a good choice for the next pop single. I'm not surprised at all that it's stalling out in the top 20. An uptempo like "Money On My Mind" or "Like I Can" should have been released third, and is really the only choice for the next single.

It was clearly a bad idea, the song peaked on 8 on the hot 100 due to the charity duet with John Legend, but even without that week is a solid top 20 on that chart, and for someone who had two previous big hits one could expect this will do better on pop than on the hot 100 (even without that week this reached 18, there are a lot of songs with a lower peak that reach top 10 on pop).
Anyway, they need to correct the mistake with the next single, Lay me down didn't kill his buzz, the album continue to sell well, so it's not a big problem, but they need an uptempo. Sam played safe with this album which is understable, but the odds are he will going to take some risk with his next works, so the better stablish himself as a hitmaker not linked to only ballds the better.
I read somewhere he wants to collaborate with Kacey Musgraves for the next album (and she seems more than happy with that), and it would be good if he do another dance collaboration in between albums. Anyway, i don't think this era is near to be over, i think he wants to start write new material but that doesn't mean the release of a new album will be soon. Maybe he won't release more singles in UK (with that level of sales it's difficult for a single to do well and as long as the album continues to sell there's no reason to other release) but in the USA there are a lot of margin to new singles, and i'm pretty sure something uptempo will have a positive effect on the album sales
Anyway, he is going to perform at the billboard awards so if there's a new single we'll know soon
