Don't know about this "TIDAL Smear Campaign." All the criticism seems legit, plus I can't imagine any media outlet wanting to actively burn bridges with the names involved in that project.
I have found some of the pro-Apple Music coverage kind of ridiculous though. Hits Daily Double, in particular, has been basically operating as an Apple Music fan site.

You don't know about a Tidal smear campaign mostly headed by HITS but then notice how HITS is an Apple Music fan site. LOL. Duh!

It's not much of a smear campaign if only 1 outlet is involved with the smearing.

The same articles ran on TIDAL daily are not providing good sources of anything either. Especially the stuff posted in here from HITS. So, your need for a credible citation and source is laughable. You didn't need one to believe all the fake stories ran on how much of a flop TIDAL is. Just like the story ran on the "CEO leaving". Uh, yeah. Because Jay brought in his own people and they allowed that man to resign rather than fire him. That's business 101. What company gets an entirely new team of owners and then keeps the same CEO? LOL. But whatever. And I hope it didn't take you too much time running to Dictionary.com to copy & paste the meaning of "joke". Because your time would have been better used finding the meaning of "unfunny". Have a goodnight.

Tidal Accidentally Starts Charging Former Customersby Kia Kokalitcheva @imkialikethecar JANUARY 19, 2016, 3:28 PM EST And reactivating their accounts. Jay-Z’s Tidal is back in the headlines, but not for good reason. The music streaming service, which doesn’t have a free version and offers subscriptions between $9.99 and $19.99 per month, has been charging former customers, according to a report from The Verge. Past subscribers have seen charges appear on their credit cards even if they canceled their Tidal accounts months ago. A few hours after he got the erroneous charge, Verge writer Chris Welch said he received an apologetic email from Tidal saying that not only would his money be refunded, but he’d also receive three months free of Tidal’s lower-tier service. While this seems like a well-meaning apology from the company on the surface, Welch noted that his account was supposed to be shut down since he canceled it. In fact, the email he received from Tidal even added that “Your TIDAL account is now active, and you can log in with your existing username,” meaning that the company reactivated him without his permission. After its initial buzz thanks to the big music names attached to the project and their vow to protect music artists’ from the alleged exploitation of free ad-supported music services, Tidal seemed to largely disappeared from the spotlight, save for few rounds of executive shuffles, as it faces fierce competition from Apple’s AAPL -0.23% new music streaming service and Spotify. In any case, Tidal seems to already be attempting to correct some of the error of its ways. Right after he published his original account, the company told Welch that it won’t be automatically charging customers after their free three months expire, as his renewed Tidal account stated. Fortune has contacted Tidal for comment and will update this story if the company responds. Source

They just need to give up on Tidal. Spotify will always be ahead of it and even Apple Music (which was released after Tidal) is doing well and will most likely pass Spotify in the future.

Since they're giving away 60 day trials without having to give them your credit card, I downloaded it.
Their user interface on Android sucks compared to Spotify for sure, which is reason enough for me not to switch. Even the way it's playlists are constructed just seems sloppy.

I resigned back up as well but I realized that I hated it the first go-round and they didn't change anything. The only go thing about the service is that it shows you the track info unlike Spotify and Apple Music.

I already stopped playing with Tidal, with my galaxy s6 edge, it's a pain in the ass to scroll in the app, it constantly is taking me back to the top of the screen because the scrolling area isn't formatted to the screen properly

So Tidal is now the "go-to" for artists who no longer care about the charts?

^Apparently. As long as they are making $$$$$$$$$, I doubt they care about Billboard Hot 100. It just makes measuring the song's impact in a quantitative manner more difficult *cough*non-published YouTube upload*cough*

hitsdailydouble.com/news&id=299938Friday, February 26, 2016 SAMSUNG TO BAIL OUT TIDAL?Samsung has restarted talks with Jay Z to take Tidal off his hands, several sources told the New York Post’s Claire Atkinson. The South Korea-based electronics company, which teamed with Jay Z in the smooth high-profile launch of 2013’s Magna Carta…Holy Grail and with Roc Nation’s Rihanna in the rocky launch of ANTI last month, has held on-and-off talks with Tidal. There’s also there’s some chatter that Samsung may have written a check to Kanye West for its involvement in the eagerly anticipated The Life of deleted, according to HITS industry insider I.B. Bad. “Samsung is re-engaging,” said a source close to talks. “They are working on something really big, and they’re keeping it very quiet in case it leaks.” Google and Spotify have also been eyeing Tidal in the belief that the premium service, though struggling, can bolster their own digital music services, Atkinson’s sources said. Spotify has discussed creating an initiative that could produce a Tidal “powered by Spotify” partnership rather than an acquisition. “The pressure is definitely on,” said one source, adding that Tidal is having trouble paying some of its royalty bills on time. Jay Z has reached into his own pocket to help boost the company, another source noted, echoing a reveal from I.B. Bad, who’d reported last April that Tidal was being romanced by prospective investors Sprint and SoftBank, dalliances that came to nothing. “Tidal certainly needs a new home to stay alive,” said a so-called “music industry insider.” Around the time of the launch, Tidal principals believed it was worth as much as $250m. It’s presently believed to be valued at about $100m. Samsung and Tidal declined to comment on the Post story.

Rather shitty devaluation there. But a quick flip for profit is probably all Jay ever wanted, so I'm sure he's more than happy to have someone interested in buying it. I wonder what Samsung thinks it could do to differentiate it from other services - aside from the cruddy PR, that seems to be its main problem.

This is rather interesting considering T.I. just signed on to be yet another co-owner of Tidal and is releasing his next project through it and Roc Nation in a few months. I see Samsung using this to be the main sponsor for all people associated with the label for touring and other endeavors. They are trying to go for Apple's throat.

The way I read it, there's value in the platform, the content licensing with artists, and the curation system that could bolster a pre-existing service. But it's doubtful you'll have another Jay Z equivalent buy Tidal and attempt to launch it as a full-fledged, standalone, independent Apple/Spotify competitor.

After Taylor Swift kicked Spotify to the curb, I could only imagine what Spotify dipping into Tidal would be like. She was one of the artists who signed on at Tidal's initial launch was she not?

I believe that the extent of her connection to Tidal is that her back catalogue (everything pre- 1989) is on there.

Okay; my point still stands I think. Spotify buying into Tidal would be kinda like them following Taylor after she walked away from them.

Okay; my point still stands I think. Spotify buying into Tidal would be kinda like them following Taylor after she walked away from them. Taylor isn't a co-owner of Tidal. She along with Prince just agree with their payment model so that's why they choose to have their music removed from other sites except that one, or in Taylor's case except Apple Music as well.

Jay Z and Tidal Are Reportedly Facing a Lawsuit Over Failing To Pay Artist Royalties (UPDATE)BY ZACH FRYDENLUND UPDATE: Tidal just issued a statement to Complex about the lawsuit and said that they are up to date on all royalties owed to Yesh Music, LLC. Statement from TIDAL TIDAL is up to date on all royalties for the rights to the music stated in Yesh Music, LLC and John Emanuele’s claim and they are misinformed as to who, if anyone, owes royalty payments to them. As Yesh Music, LLC admits in their claim, TIDAL has the rights to the Master Recordings through its distributor Tunecore and have paid Tunecore in full for such exploitations. Their dispute appears to be over the mechanical licenses, which we are also up to date on payments via Harry Fox Agency our administrator of mechanical royalties. The entire catalogue in question streamed fewer than 13,000 times on TIDAL and its predecessor over the past year. We have now removed all music associated with Yesh Music, LLC and John Emanuele from the service. This is the first we have heard of this dispute and Yesh Music, LLC should be engaging Harry Fox Agency if they believe they are owed the royalties claimed. They especially should not be naming S Carter Enterprises, LLC, which has nothing to do with Tidal. This claim serves as nothing other than a perfect example of why America needs Tort reform.
Read the original story below. When Jay Z launched Tidal last year, he did so on the idea that the streaming service would be the first of its kind to take care of artists with higher royalty payouts. After the official launch event, Jay even tweeted that Tidal was going to pay every artist, writer, and producer featured on the service a 75 percent royalty rate, which was higher than any other streaming service in the industry, at least according to Hov. Now, it appears that Hov and Tidal are in some serious hot water over their royalty system, as they're reportedly facing a $5 million class-action lawsuit from Yesh Music, LLC and John Emanuele from the band, the American Dollar. The lawsuit, which was uploaded online to the site Scribd here, claims that Tidal streamed 116 of the band's copyrighted songs without paying back any royalty payments in the process. The firm Garbarini Fitzgerald P.C. reportedly filed the lawsuit in the United States District Court Southern District of New York over the weekend, according to the uploaded documents. As of now, neither Jay, Tidal, or Tidal's parent company, Aspiro, which is also named in the suit, have responded to the case. We spoke with the lawyer in the case, Richard Garbarini, on the phone, and he confirmed that the suit was filed over the weekend. Over the phone, Garbarini said that the band received no royalties for their work until this past Nov., and that the group asked months ago to have their music removed from Tidal. As of today, the band's music is currently still available to stream on Tidal. "I find it fairly amazing an organization that claims it was going to pay the artists, systematically does not pay the artists," Garbarini said. Tidal reportedly used faulty numbers to make payments to artists and may have undercut the money they owed to artists by as much as 35 percent, according to the filed documents. The band claims that they were expecting monthly reports on royalty payments and usage of every song on the service, but nothing was ever sent, according to the lawsuit. The news of this lawsuit comes just days after a report surfaced that Samsung is in talks to buy Tidal, though nothing has been confirmed as of now. Tidal's success has been a true rollercoaster over the past year, but recently saw a bump in subscribers when Kanye West exclusively released his new album, The Life of deleted, on the streaming service. We've reached out to Tidal for comment on the lawsuit and will continue to update when more details surrounding this story come out. www.complex.com/music/2016/02/jay-z-and-tidal-facing-lawsuit-over-not-paying-out-royalties-to-artists?utm_campaign=musictw&utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=social
