Pretty sure Bruno Mars could smoothly get away with releasing a song just like "P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing)"!!

- Most piano ballads, as that's the one thing that generally can't be affected by different production values or techniques. Janet's "Again" immediately springs to mind. - Most of Usher's hits from the 90s would likely do well today, somewhat ironic when most of what Usher is actually trying to do right these days is struggling. Maybe he should call up JD and see if there are any My Way leftovers still lying around somewhere... - "Purple Rain" would likely be just as epic now as it was then. - Kind of random but I could definitely see Ed Sheeran dominating radio with "Lady In "Red" or "Wicked Game." Then you have a situation like Adele, where at this particular point in her career she could probably smash with anything as long as it was well-written, but it has less to do with the song and more to do with her current status. An Adele cover of "Open Arms," like Mariah's back in the day, would be huge for Adele now; but in 2009 I doubt it would have done much. There is very little that has changed about AC music, it's just that AC music as a whole isn't very 'cool' right now, with a few exceptions. On that note, I think I agree with Baby Spice that there aren't many songs that could be hits today because the production standard is just so different. Trends change, and the second something becomes dependent on circumstances (well if this person was singing it, or if you released it to X format), you defeat the purpose of the question.

alot of today's music seems to borrow from past sounds . artists like Meghan Trainor and Sam Smith from the 50's and 60's . Mark and Bruno from the 70's and 80's and Taylor Swift from the 80'S.

Fantasy, Always Be My Baby Without a doubt this would go straight to number one on at least three formats if it were released today. Fantasy was the song that immediately came to mind. This statement could not be more true.

It wasn't a hit in the US, but it went to #1 in the UK in 1988.

Christina Aguliera- Genie In A Bottle Britney Spears- Baby One More Time Mariah Carey- Honey Those aren't 20 years old. You could look at old songs being used in new TV, movies, or commercials. "All Right Now" by Free from 1970 is in a commercial. You could also look at if songs from 20+ years old were sampled in recent hits.

Fantasy, Always Be My Baby Without a doubt this would go straight to number one on at least three formats if it were released today. Missed this when I first posted - it's now the only option I can think of. The remix in particular, I think it would be pretty big. Honey too, perhaps.

TLC - Creep Janet - That's The Way Love Goes
Both songs sound like smashes over 20 years later!
