I don't feel like FGL made "bro" a thing. I think it was started with Jason Aldean and then Luke Bryan joined in giving FGL a built in crowd to play to. To use TV Tropes lingo, Luke and Jason would be the Trope Makers, and FGL the Trope Codifier.

This one feels a little less "bro" to me than some of their other releases. I'm cool with it. I like Moi's production; I like FGL's hooks (except "This Is How We Roll", which just seemed flat to me); and overall, FGL has just never bothered me. I should hate FGL for poisoning the well by almost singlehandedly making "bro country" a thing, but I just don't. However, it does seem that "bro" is dying. There are only a small number of songs on the charts right now that I'd consider "bro". "Sun Daze" fell HARD from #1, and if this single bombs, then I'm sure they'll get the message. After all, even Luke Bryan realized he's at least 10 years too old to keep the "spring break" thing going anymore... I'd say bro is fully dead and has been for several months now. I mean, there will always be a couple of those songs, but it hasn't been the dominant trend probably since September.

I find it hard to see how it can be "fully dead" and yet there still be bro songs at the same time. I disagree that it's dead; the saturation of bro has definitely dropped, but it's way too soon to say that it's gone.

It will never be fully, 100% done. "Bro country" has always been around, the issue wasn't that it existed. It was that there was FAR too much of it. Saving country music had a good piece on it, I'll find it and post it here.

I know this will be the very unpopular opinion, but I actually really like this one. I think its their catchiest song since "Cruise". I hated "Sun Daze", but this one is way better in my opinion.

I agree with this, I think it's pretty good as a song. I honestly think "Confession" is going to be the biggest single off this album. There's some really strong lyrics in that song imo. This one is a bit loud production-wise, but I still think it's good.

I found it interesting that the top-rated comment under this song's official lyric video was that "Smoke" should have been the third single instead. I agree "Smoke" should get a release (and likely will) at some point, but it may be tough to work around the fact that this song is about toking. If the line "tonight I'm stoned" is censored then perhaps the song can be interpreted as referring to cigarette smoke, but this didn't seem to help Eric Church's "Smoke a Little Smoke" at radio.

He says "tonight I'm stoned on long gone love so strong" if I remember correctly, so I highly doubt many, if any people would have an issue with it, and I'd be shocked if it was censored.

^Yes, that is the line, which implies that the "smoke" referred to throughout the song is really pot. I think some of the more conservative programmers and listeners might have a problem with a song that uses a marijuana reference as the hook.

To me it indicates love as the drug, not marijuana, and even if it was pot, I doubt most would care.

I can't see "Smoke" getting a release when A Thousand Horses' song of the same name is shaping up to be a huge hit. There are plenty of other single options on the album (Confession, Anything Goes, Bumpin' The Night, Angel), and I think they'll be more inclined to go with one of those. Even if they waited for the 5th single release to consider it, it would still most likely be less than a year away from ATH's Smoke peaking.

I can't believe I'm saying this but Fla-Ga line's "Smoke" is much better to me than the current "Smoke" single out now. I actually feel like Smoke is one of the best songs Fla-Ga line has in their catalog so far. So far Sun Daze and Sippin on Fire are not shaping up to be the huge hits that I think they expected. However, I think "Smoke" and "Confession" would be huge hits for them. I feel like "Anything Goes" will be the next single.

There seems to be a bit of FGL fatigue going on right now. Not that they still aren't very successful, because of course they are, but there doesn't seem to be quite the same interest level that there was with their first album. Obviously most artists can't maintain the level of success that FGL had the first time around though. That's probably the biggest reason, though I also do think the beginning of a shift away from 'bro' doesn't help them any. But I'm sure most artists would be very happy for a 'sophomore slump' like this one. They're nowhere near in a Hunter Hayes kind of situation.

Kinda reminds me of Darius's 2nd album. "This" and "Come Back Song" both got to #1 and completely disappeared right away.

I think people jumped the gun too quickly on this one. It's currently up to #11 on iTunes country chart, over 10 spots ahead of where it's on the airplay charts. Sure this might not be the second coming of "This Is How We Roll", but how many songs are? This will easily go Gold, and time will tell if this can possibly get to Platinum some day. Looks set to peak at #1 on the Airplay chart too. Shaping up to be a big hit, and I think once summer arrives and this is peaking, it will be quite popular.

Kworb had this at #74 on iTunes all-genre this morning as well, up from #84 yesterday. Now that it's gaining steam in the 20's on the radio charts, the sales are really starting to pick up.
I don't know if I see this going Platinum like all of the singles from their debut album did (and some of them went multi-Platinum), but I would attribute that to a slight "cooling off" for these guys, as well as the fact that streaming is continually cutting into sales numbers. "Dirt" was a big hit and "Sun Daze" was a pretty big hit too, but neither of those matched the success of "Cruise" and "Get Your Shine On", so that's also gonna affect "Sippin' On Fire" a little bit.
All in all, though, FGL is still probably the hottest act out there who's not named Luke Bryan. Sam Hunt is up there as well, and I'm also curious to see what sales numbers ZBB's new album opens up with at the end of April. Seems to be a lot of hype surrounding them once again.

The only two songs I've enjoyed from this group are Cruise (because it was so different, infectious and a good sing along summer song) and Dirt (although it aged with so much radio play). Their other songs either grated on me because of bad vocals (Stay) or hated lyrics (Shine On/ Sun Daze-even though that one was quite the ear worm).
I don't love this enough to buy it; but it is listenable and I don't change the channel when it comes on. So in my book that bodes well for its chart course.

Yeah this song has really grown on me. I was against them releasing this as the 3rd single initially (although only because I preferred Anything Goes or Confession, which I still do), but the hook and guitar on this one is extremely catchy, and I like that it's a little more subdued, and less in your face than songs like "Sun Daze" and "This Is How We Roll".

This era is definitely a lot better for me than their previous one. This, Dirt and Sun Daze are my favourite songs by them.

I'm actually coming around on this one a little bit. I'm not in love with it and the autotune really gets on my nerves, but other than that this song is catchy and the lyrics don't make me want to cringe. I don't change the station when this comes on and that's a step up from most of their material.

I'm I ran the Fireball Whiskey company, I'd get a promo going with this song ASAP. Perfect advertisement spot, especially considering FGL even name dropped Fireball in the chorus of "Round Here".

I actually don't mind this one either. The only thing I really don't care for are Tyler's vocals, but that aspect is obviously not going to change anytime soon. The production is not my thing as with most FGL songs but I can find the melody likable enough and the lyrics are a big step up IMO from most of their material. This is actually the first FGL song I don't turn the dial since "Round Here" (the only other one I don't turn the dial for).
The video location has a "been there, done that feel' with "Remind Me' and "Miss Me Baby", but I do think it fits the song well.

^^ Now that you are mentioning it: I thought absolutely the same thing when I watched the video; Tyler is particularly annoying here and the voice irritatingly nasal. Funny enough, it didn't bother me when listening to the CD. I'm cool with this song, actually.

I'm relieved to see BMLG hasn't tried to pull a stunt like "Just Gettin' Started" or "Something in the Water" by holding this behind "Diamond Rings and Old Barstools." The Tim McGraw song is already starting to struggle and has really low sales and even poor research (as the CAW columnists so politely brought to everyone's attention in their "Girl Crush" article last week, lol). It would have been crazy and unrealistic for that song to go up ahead of FGL, but my cynical attitude about the charts had me prepared for Republic Nashville to stall "Sippin' on Fire" as long as they could.
That being said, I do see a high possibility of "Sippin' on Fire" being stalled for A Thousand Horses' "Smoke," which sat three spaces, 4.5 million audience, and 500 spins ahead of this on the most recent Billboard chart. I think that's a reasonable gap for Republic Nashville to try to maintain. However, as with a lot of these group huddles on the charts, I think both songs would have no trouble getting to #1 even if FGL went up ahead of A Thousand Horses. Both seem to me like legit, solid #1 hits and so stalling this song would be unnecessary.
I think labels just tend to overreact and jump the gun every time one big hit is passed by an even bigger one in the top 15. Warner Brothers has perfectly demonstrated this point with the past two Blake Shelton singles. "Neon Light" passed up Frankie Ballard's "Sunshine & Whiskey" outside the top 10, yet both had no trouble getting to #1 at all even though WMN did nothing to stall Blake's song. "Lonely Tonight" passed Brett Eldredge's "Mean to Me" outside the top 10 as well and again Blake was able to go up ahead without any stalling or any struggling for either song to get to #1. If, for example, Arista Nashville had allowed "Something in the Water" to rise naturally ahead of "Perfect Storm" and "Til It's Gone" last winter, I think Carrie would have been to #1 by the first Billboard airplay chart of the new year at the latest (the one on which Brad actually ended up getting his first week at #1), and then Brad and Kenny could have gotten to #1 in the two subsequent weeks, ahead of Eric Church and Luke Bryan. All three Sony artists would have had one week at #1 and everything would be back on track, rather than the way things actually worked out, with Brad getting two weeks, Kenny getting one, and Carrie getting none.

The Tim McGraw song is already starting to struggle and has really low sales and even poor research (as the CAW columnists so politely brought to everyone's attention in their "Girl Crush" article last week, lol). It would have been crazy and unrealistic for that song to go up ahead of FGL, but my cynical attitude about the charts had me prepared for Republic Nashville to stall "Sippin' on Fire" as long as they could. To be fair, the quote in Country Aircheck (about Tim's song) was only from one PD, and he didn't say that it was testing poorly, just that it hadn't shown a lot of positive or "passion" research scores yet. And that's really not all that surprising, given that it's a ballad (along with Mickey's "Better Than You Left Me", which was also mentioned). According to Mediabase Callout, "Diamong Rings & Old Barstools" is #31 overall. It's negative percentage is less than 20%, which is less than "Homegrown Honey" (almost 30%), "Drinking Class" (24%), "Just Gettin' Started" (20%), "What We Ain't Got" (22%), "Wild Child" (21%), "Girl Crush" (32%), "Riot" (21%), "She Don't Love You" (23.6%), "Little Red Wagon" (36.4%), "Trouble" (22%), "Crushin' It" (22.6%), and "Like A Wrecking Ball" (26.5%). Tim's simply not showing very high "favorite" scores -- "Take Your Time" and "Girl Crush" are easily 1-2 in that category -- but Tim's "burn rate" is very low, and familiarity is still only 77%. Basically, it doesn't read as a song that's polarizing, but it's also not generating a high "passion" score. In short, its overall scores are rather middle-of-the-road, or just kind of 'there'. Also, "Diamond Rings & Old Barstools" isn't selling that poorly - there are 2 versions on iTunes. It's the same song, but the deluxe version is listed as "with Catherine Dunn" and the standard album version is listed as "feat. Catherine Dunn" (which annoys me, but w/e). The standard version is at #34 on the iTunes country chart, and the deluxe version is at #58. It's certainly not selling great, but it's not far off what songs like "Raise 'Em Up", "Wild Child", and "Crushin' It" are currently selling. Oh, and the Kenny and Brad tracks are discounted to 69 cents, btw. Easton Corbin's "Baby Be My Love Song" was also discounted to 69 cents. Other 69 cent-ers right now include Cole Swindell's "Ain't Worth The Whiskey", Chase Rice's "Gonna Wanna Tonight" (this has been 69 cents for its entire chart run), and Austin Webb's "All Country On You" (and there are a bunch of other 69 cent songs right now as well, but all of them have been recurrent for quite some time, some for several years). Maddie & Tae's "Fly" has been 99 cents for its entire chart run. I definitely agree that "Sippin' On Fire" is the bigger hit and that it will go up ahead of Tim (Tim should go top 10, maybe top 5, but #1 seems like a stretch). FGL is up to #5 on iTunes country right now, trailing only "Take Your Time", "Crash And Burn", "Girl Crush", and "Homegrown". A Thousand Horses' "Smoke" is at #7.

Sounds like a mix of Cruise and Round Here. That said, this is between Dirt and Sun Daze IMO
