That clip sounds really promising.
The lyrics seem a bit subpar (by Gary's usual standards), but everything else is stellar.
I also wasn't expecting the tittle to be tied into the lyrics that way, but I like the twist.

LOVE this...although I kinda wish they would have gone with the cold/acapella ending to the song that Gary did in the live clip.

Sadly, the song has been removed from Soundcloud.

After hearing the preview on Taste Of Country, I was a bit disappointed. However, if some of you have heard the full song and have said good things, I'll trust you. It's just different, and I guess I was not expecting any change in production. Hopefully it grows on me.

Sadly, the song has been removed from Soundcloud. I got a chance to listen to it a few times last night and earlier today and I thought it was really, really good. Love the groove to it and the organ! I could actually see this being another big hit for Gary, possibly getting him back to #1. It sounds pretty radio-friendly but at the same time it's different than anything else out there and I think that will work in Gary's favor. I'm sure the studio version will pop up again soon. I'm expecting that the song will get sent to radio next week (probably Monday) before going for adds on March 2.

I know many have trouble with these links, but the studio version is up hereI'm hoping this grows on me but on first listen I'm pretty disappointed. I don't care for the production very much and at times it seems to bury Gary in the background (though lousy pc speakers could be accounting for some of that). Still, it does sound like something radio will play, I just would've preferred it a bit more stripped down. Plus Gary on his worst day is still better than 90% of what Nashville turns out today. If this starts to take off I have no doubts I'll have talked myself into it to support Gary. Bring on the new album!

Yeah, I'm a little surprised there are people down on this. It sounds like Gary Allan with maybe a more modern sound, but the steel guitar and voice is still there. It's no "Smoke Rings In The Dark", but it's an easy listen and catchy. We could do a lot worse than this folks :)

^ Well in my opinion it's low standards by a performer who has consistently given us fabulous real country songs and to see him straddling the "bro" fence just to relevant at radio just saddens me. Gary has always been the Nashville rebel and done music that has so much meaning and heart to it regardless of what radio or awards show thought. Sure it could be a whole lot worse than it is but it's definitely not "Life Ain't Always Beautiful ","Man To Man","Every Storm Runs Out Of Rain" that we've known Gary for. I just never thought I'd see the day he played it this safe. It may grow on me eventually but the shock still hasn't wore off yet that they picked a fluff song.

I just never thought I'd see the day he played it this safe. It may grow on me eventually but the shock still hasn't wore off yet that they picked a fluff song. This sound like a radio-friendly song to me but I don't think I'd call it safe. It sounds very different than anything else out there right now. I also don't think this is remotely "bro" either. It's a really upbeat song in which the narrator (Gary) finds himself attracted to the woman he's singing about. "Hangover Tonight" is no "Smoke Rings In The Dark"...I certainly agree with that. But I still think it's very much within Gary's wheelhouse. It's a sultry-type of song and I expect it to go over pretty well with radio. The vibe I get from this song is one part "Your Man" (Josh Turner), one part "Drinks After Work" (Toby Keith), and one part "Nothin' On But The Radio" (from Mr. Allan himself).

I like this musically, though I don't know if there will ever come a point where I don't wonder what James Otto is up to when I hear this. Not that Otto originated or owns country soul, but "Hangover Tonight" (the post-chorus in particular) is so similar in vibe and tempo to "Just Got Started Lovin' You." To be fair, though, Chris Stapleton out-souls just about everyone in the genre over the past ten years.
The lyrics here are mostly quite weak, but the alliteration of "hanging on to the hope and the way this whiskey tastes" and the way that line scans on the melody really works for me. Most of all, I'm a voice-first listener, and Gary Allan's measured, sultry delivery makes the song a lot more likable than it would be than if it came from one of the format's core bros. The abandon of Chris Stapleton's background vocals is maybe a bit distracting, but I kind of like the wild, rough feel it adds. They both sound in-the-moment and like they're having fun, which this song needs to work.
All in all, while I would have preferred a better-written statement single from Gary Allan, I think "Hangover Tonight" is kind of ingratiating, and it feels like the kind of song that represents his best chance in the current radio environment. It really is nice to hear a smile in his voice again.

According to his twitter, Gary co-produced his whole new album Gary co-produces all his albums. Just five CDs have been produced by Gary Allan: See If I Care, Tough All Over, Living Hard, Get Off On The Pain, and Set You Free.

Uh, you do know that the five albums you listed, are his most recent five albums since 2003 (12 years ago). So I stand by my point of Gary co-producing all his albums. Of course early in his career he let those duties be handled by Tony Brown, Mark Wright and Byron Hill. But Gary's been in the biz long enough for him to want a call on producing his music.

I just said that early in his career, he let the producing duties be handled by a combination of those three men. Since See If I Care, he has taken the role of co-producing his music and has been that way since.

With all due respect, he was just pointing out that Gary Allan hasn't co-produced all of his albums. When those albums were recorded has little effect on the truth of that statement. But it's really unimportant in the grand scheme of things.

Gary didn't produced his early albums. sabre14's statement that "Gary co-produces all of his albums" was meant as more of a general statement, meaning that it's not a surprise that Gary co-produced his upcoming album since he's been co-producing his albums since 2003. Let's carry on here, and not get hung up on this, please.

But it's really unimportant in the grand scheme of things. I understand but when I said all of his albums I did mean albums he makes "now" and recently as in his past few. Looking back I would have used a different word since I was unaware that there would be this much disputing about the fact that Gary didn't have credits on producing albums 12 or more years ago, which I already knew but figured it didn't matter in the grand scheme of things, which you of course pointed out.

Sorry if I caused a ruffling of feathers, I honestly don't pay as much attention to who produces albums as opposed to say writers and musicians. I was unaware that he co-produced all of his work from "See If I Care". To me, it was just an interesting tidbit so I apologize for that

Gary should make his debut on Billboard this coming Monday. "Hangover Tonight" is already getting quite a bit of love from KCYY in San Antonio (28 spins in the last 7 days), and it's also getting some nice early support at KSOP in Salt Lake City. Other big market stations including KKGO in Los Angeles, WUSN in Chicago, and KKBQ in Houston have started spinning it as well. www.allaccess.com/mediabase/q/report/starters/song/ALLAHT++/format/C1

Not that it really matters where Gary debuts, but I always hope he'll make a splashy first-week appearance and catch a few programmers' attention.

According to Gary's facebook page, "Hangover Tonight" was delivered to radio today (the add date). So the original banner ad was correct.
This will be available on iTunes at Midnight. :)

Gary Allan is pretty hit-or-miss for me, but this one is the style I usually like from him. It reminds me of his stuff like "Nothin' on but the Radio" and "Right Where I Need to Be" that I enjoy. I never could get into "Every Storm (Runs Out of Rain)" to start with and basically hated it because it was overplayed, but this is infinitely better, imo. Hope this can be a pretty big hit.
