If this doesn't win AOTY it would be a damn shame. They should honor Lorde like they honored Beck, Herbie Hancock, and Ray Charles. Seriously.

Late to the party.
FINALLY listened to the full album. I heard bits of songs from the album and I wasn’t intetested
But then I kept coming back And back And back
And now I’m obsessed. Give this girl a Grammy cause she’s got me hooked.

I go back and forth between this and Kendrick. Kendrick made such a Statement but still was able to craft not just an album but had jam after jam on there. TPAB to me was all Statement; DAMN. is the best of both worlds. But, as much as I loved Lorde before, I fell IN LOVE with her on this album. It was expertly produced and crafted. I feel like Bruno will take it because he is the safe choice and is probably the most loved by all the voters but it's gonna be an interesting Grammys, for sure.

I still have never listened to Lorde's debut aside from the singles. I did however preview the songs from this album on itunes when it came out just to see what the hype was about and I wasn't intrigued at all. However when I read she was nominated for AOTY I decided to give the album in it's entirety a listen, and I keep going back to it and replaying it all, no skipping. There are not many albums that I listen to without skipping songs, so props to you Lorde. This may not win AOTY, but for me, it is the best of the bunch.

Give this girl a Grammy cause she’s got me hooked. I finally listened to it all the way through on the way to work (I've yet to listen to her debut aside from the singles) and I really enjoyed it. Not my favorite album of the year, but there are some really incredible songs on it and I'm happy she got the Album of the Year nomination. Aside from the three singles, my instant-favs are: Supercut The Louvre Liability

“Hard Feelings” is still amazing but “The Louvre” became one of my favorite songs of the year. SO GOOD.
I was a bit underwhelmed by some of the production on this album but I think that’s going to be the very thing that lends it a timeless quality in the long run.

I liked that iHeart performance. Definitely need to see this tour now. Always thought she just stood there, somber with big hair in front of her face, mumbling through midtempos, but she looks to be growing into a great adult artist.

She has been stalking the stage and manically flailing since her debut. Where have you been?

My Lorde experience exactly Outside of the three singles, give a listen to "Glory and Gore", "Buzzcut Season" and "400 Lux". Melodrama is much better than her debut, but there are some hidden gems in there. I've been playing the album recently a lot. Fallen in love with it all over again, which pisses me off because they fumbled the entire thing horribly. Perfect Places, the Homemade Dynamite mix and Supercut could have been hits.

I've spent the last few nights crying to Liability and listening to it at least twice each night I think it has become my favorite from the album It's so fucking relate-able, and I'm a sucker for a beautiful piano ballad always so. Still pressed the record got snubbed for the upcoming Grammys, has to be a scam This is THE album of 2017 for me, I spent today listening to both Melodrama & Pure Heroine The level of slayage on her debut was great, but the level of growth she brings to the table for Melodrama is perfection and it's marvelous to see

Obsessed w/ her and the fact that she covered “Run Away With Me”. Brilliant.
Also, no matter what, this is THE album of the year. Not only is the quality there, but goddamn if this album doesn’t accurately capture my recent feelings and experiences. Every listen provides something new, a new moment to cherish, a new lyric to connect to. This album has been quite cathartic, actually, and is one of the best I’ve ever heard. I just can’t stop listening. Incredible.
Really can’t decide between “Hard Feelings”, “The Louvre”, or “Sober” as my favorite track. They’re all just so good.

^^ I agree. It's a fantastic album. I appreciate that's it's not overlong as well. I'll be unsurprised but disappointed if this doesn't win AOTY. If the Grammys are all about craft, this album just has it. I enjoy Bruno's album but I don't know anyone, fan or no, could put it on the same level of quality as Melodrama.
I'm listening to it now and it's just so good. There's no meandering, no filler. Like, I enjoyed Pure Heroine, but this is something else.

Apparently she's not performing on this year's Grammy because she was the only nominee of AOTY who did not get a solo performer spot on the show.

Apparently she's not performing on this year's Grammy because she was the only nominee of AOTY who did not get a solo performer spot on the show. A lot of people are claiming it's because she's a woman, but that's absolutely not the case. Let's look at the nominees and what they could possibly perform: Childish Gambino - Clearly he can perform "Redbone," it was a big hit from the year and was nominated for Record of the Year. Kendrick Lamar - Literally anything he wants, the album was a huge seller and streamer, he racked up multiple hits this past year and has two songs blowing up the charts as we speak. Bruno Mars - Had two very big hits this past year off of this album and has a song that's blowing up the charts right now. Jay-Z - ...crickets Lorde - ...crickets The difference between Jay-Z and Lorde, though, is Jay-Z is a legacy act. Him performing literally anything is a huge draw from the hip-hop community. Lorde is not a legacy act and doesn't have that draw. That's not a slam, it's just a matter of fact. She hasn't been in the business long enough for that type of recognition. Her biggest hit this year was the flash in the pan, not even double digit longevity "Green Light." What is the general public that watches these shows going to know her for? "Royals"? She just isn't that big of a draw by herself right now for a show like the Grammys. Jay-Z also has a Record of the Year nomination that he could perform as well as Song of the Year. Lorde literally only has Album of the Year and nothing else. They did offer her a spot to perform since she is nominated for the most prestigious award they offer, but not in a solo performance. Ideally, everyone nominated for the big general categories should have been offered solo slots, but that's not how that works because first and foremost, the Grammys is a televised program that needs ratings. Lorde is just simply in no place right now to bring in ratings with a solo performance on the Grammys specifically.
This doesn't mean she doesn't have a shot at winning, though! Remember Esperanza Spalding? On the contrary, I really do believe it's down to her or Bruno simply because of the vote split. Rap/hip-hop voters are going to be split between the other three. Pop voters will be split between Lorde and Bruno. Lorde will get the rock votes. Bruno will get the r&b votes.

I'm not surprised with her not being asked to perform. The fact that she's nominated for AOTY and not for Pop Album (I was expecting her to have the slot Lana got, or at least the Coldplay EP) points to the committee for the general categories putting her in, but the voting bloc at large not backing her much, which when combined with this being only her second album, a slump success-wise, and after a long break, doesn't give a solo performance slot much draw or value.
I think the award is coming down between Bruno (who will get most of the Pop vote with none of the albums from there represented along with, along with some of the R&B votes) and Gambino (Some R&B/and I'll say a good amount of the rock/alt. crowd too) with her as the dark horse. I think her submitting her album for Pop and not Alternative might have put a ceiling on who went for her in the end.

Anyway, I'll pray for her snatching that AOTY. She was so underappreciated for this album.
