I think this could be her breakthrough hit at radio. Great song.

I think this could be her breakthrough hit at radio. Great song. I would say God Made Girls was her breakthrough hit already. It cracked the top 20 and went Gold, which is pretty good for a female newcomer. There also was a lot of buzz surrounding that single.

It cracked the top 20 and went Gold, which is pretty good for a female newcomer. There also was a lot of buzz surrounding that single. I wouldn't call it a breakthrough hit. It was successful, yes, but no more so than many other female newcomer hits that were followed by underperformers ("Merry Go 'Round," "Wasting All These Tears," "The Heart of Dixie," "From a Table Away," "Why Ya Wanna," etc.). It remains to be seen how this song does or how her future in the genre stands, before we can call it a breakthrough hit. "Girl in a Country Song" fits that description better than "God Made Girls," and even then we'll have to see how "Fly"/future singles eventually do for M&T.

This is nowhere to be found in tonight's Billboard magazine. Didn't even make the six-spot New & Active section, which means this fell all the way from #58 to #67 at the very best on Billboard. I wonder if Valory has decided to just pull this and look for new material, or if they will do so now after what happened this week. The charts are an absolute bloodbath right now. As hard as radio tries to give everyone a chance by allowing a revolving door at #1, this actually causes more artists' careers to go nowhere by backing up the chart and preventing so many newcomers from getting a single to climb. I really hope to see some more songs start peaking in the top 10 below #1 soon.
I'm just shocked to see this one having such a hard time. To me "For a Boy" sounded like a pretty big potential radio hit and this is still around #1000 on the iTunes all-genre chart with under 350k audience impressions. I sure hope it's not too late for this single to make a recovery, because RaeLynn is really in trouble if she's already struggling to hold her footing in the top 60 before she's even been able to release a full studio album.

No, it could be at #61. New & Active doesn't rank songs 61-66. It only shows the 6 highest-charting bulleted songs that are below #60. We know RaeLynn lost her bullet, but that doesn't mean she fell below 347k in audience (which is what Luke Bryan's "Checkin' Out", the 6th song in New & Active, has). "For A Boy" had 818k in audience last week, my guess is that it's still somewhere in the 700-800k range.

She may not have fallen that far if she lost a little bit of audience. Songs without a bullet wouldn't appear on new and active, so that might've been what happened to her. Regardless though it's not a good thing. As has been said in other threads, there are just so many singles out right now that is causing a huge log jam on the charts. It makes it tough for new artists, and especially new female artists.
That's another major problem with 30-45 week chart runs - most albums (outside of the big stars) can only have 1 or 2 hits since it takes so long to go through singles.

Okay, this is a definite step up. She doesn't sound like a chipmunk; the melody and production are pleasant; and even the lyrics are better. They're not exceptional lyrics, mind you — still a bit girly and unseasoned — but nothing eye-rollingly bad like in "God Made Girls". At least she actually is 20 still, and not a 30-year-old pretending to still be 20 (also known as Carly Rae Jepsen Syndrome).

I'm getting really nervous for a bunch of songs fighting to even chart but this one is my favorite of the bunch so it's really nerve wracking not seeing it chart for three weeks and not seeing it in the "New & Active" section for the past two weeks. I wonder if Big Machine would consider pulling this or do they recognize how tough of a situation she's in?

I don't know if Valory will pull this (eventually if it continues to get buried) but I think it's pretty evident that this one isn't going to do much. Every time we see a chart this loaded, there's always casualties. "For A Boy" hasn't even cracked the top 54 on MB either, along with not being in the top 60. It's usually not labels fault when this happens as there's no way to accurately predict how a chart will look during a single's chart run.

I am still stunned this is struggling this badly. Great song, and she really sings the crap out of it. I HOPE she is not in trouble on her label if this doesn't go anywhere :/ but I don't know. Video is up: www.youtube.com/watch?v=T551UQYQU2g Interesting and well-shot, but I am not sure of the storyline...that's not really what I got out of the lyrics, but I guess I could see it. (Trying not to spoil what happens is very difficult for me haha)

The chart is ridiculously cluttered right now.

They have enough already for like 2 records. They could easily pull something from the EP already out. She has a handful of interesting singles.

Wow, I hadn't realized that this hasn't even charted yet. That's a shame because I really enjoy this one quite a bit, and even really enjoy her voice on this as well. Hopefully it'll pick up and at least do something for her.
Also, she is absolutely stunning in this video.

It actually did chart several weeks ago at #58, but it's been struggling to re-enter because there's so many songs in the same boat right now. I do really hope this one can be one of the survivors and have a (albeit) slow climb up the charts. This is a great, great song, imo, and I've really liked what I've heard from RaeLynn so far, so I'm pretty excited for her debut album, which won't be released anytime soon if "For a Boy" doesn't at least do pretty well. "God Made Girls" did pretty well though and sold even better, so I'm going to try and remain optimistic about RaeLynn's chances here

She's back in New & Active, and has over a million in AI. At any other time, she would be comfortably on the charts, it's just that airplay levels are so high all across the board. She's still not doing well, by any stretch of the imagination, but it's not quite as bad as it looks.

I thought this would finally get back in the top 60 tonight--she had gained a few big market spins on MB, enough so that I thought this would get back on at the very bottom of the BB chart--but it didn't happen. Last week she was on New & Active with 1.215 million, and tonight's #60 song, Kid Rock's "First Kiss", only had 1.117 million, which means a) RaeLynn lost at least 99k and b) she would have been on tonight's chart if she had only been able to retain her 1.215 million total from last week (she would have actually been at #59 tonight if she'd stayed at 1.215 mil).
Next week I imagine we'll see debuts from Keith, FGL, and Miranda, and Lee Brice and Craig Campbell have a pretty decent chance to get on as well. That's 5 debuts, and I don't think 5 songs will go recurrent, so that's bad news for RaeLynn (as well as for Toby Keith and Kid Rock...maybe Ashley Monroe and Casey James too).
I'm only seeing 2 slam-dunk recurrents next week (Billy & A Thousand Horses). Toby will actually go recurrent if he can't re-bullet, so I imagine Show Dog will try to at least have "35 mph Town" gain a little bit. Otherwise there aren't any obvious recurrents. If Kacey is truly done, I suppose it's possible she could fall all the way off from #48. Dustin Lynch is gaining too strongly now to just suddenly quit...but maybe someone like Rascal Flatts or Frankie Ballard will finally give up? Reba and Mickey Guyton are both past the 21-week mark but both of them just entered the MB top 30 and will have countdown spins coming their way soon, so I imagine that'll be enough of an incentive for Valory and Capitol to keep working those songs for at least a couple more weeks yet. Austin Webb is at 21 weeks and not doing much, but he'll also have countdown spins coming his way next weekend as he managed to re-enter the MB top 40 tonight.
So I guess what I'm saying is that RaeLynn maybe had a decent chance to get back into the top 60 tonight, but things don't look favorable at all for next week. In any case, even if RaeLynn had re-charted tonight, she would've probably been among the lower-charting songs to get pushed out next week. Keith is apparently getting the iHeartRadio 'deal' so he'll be the Hot Shot Debut (probably somewhere in the 20's), and I'm sure both FGL and Miranda can manage to gain at least 1.2 mil (after being sent to radio today) and make their debuts.
So it's just not looking good for a lot of the artists who've been right there on the cusp, including RaeLynn, Logan Mize, Cam, Chris Stapleton, and Lee Brice. I think it's safe to say that Big Machine pulled another Greg Bates here...they should have released RaeLynn's album when "God Made Girls" was in the top 20, because "For A Boy" will be lucky if it can ever get back in the top 60 again..

What a shame. They really should have released the full album when "God Made Girls" was peaking. It did about as well as the first releases from Cassadee Pope and Danielle Bradbery, so I'm sure sales would've been fine. This failing to take off is really disheartening, not only for the single itself, but also because now the album is going to be delayed even further since they'll have to try again. Ugh! :(

As bleak as things have looked for this song (and still do), "For A Boy" lands at #52 on MB this week, as its just 147 total points off the #50 song "Folks Like Us."
1 add this week (WLHK in Indianapolis).

This one isn't getting any airplay anymore, but I noticed that it shot up on iTunes about 2 weeks ago already, and it's still at #50 on the iTunes country chart this morning...which is really high for a song that's no longer getting promoted or receiving more than a handful of spins anywhere. Was this on TV somewhere? A commercial? Did something go viral on YouTube? Because I'm just baffled. It went for adds in March, got buried by an overcrowded release schedule, and fell out of the top 200 on the iTunes country chart...and suddenly, there it is again, at #50.ETA: Ah, I see that she performed "For A Boy" on the Disney Channel show "I Didn't Do It" 2 weeks ago, so it makes sense that it surged on iTunes. The Disney demographic would be all over this song. Anyway...it's a real shame that this couldn't do anything. I do not like "God Made Girls" at all, but I really enjoy this one, and the music video is great too. It almost never works, but I really wish Valory would give FAB another adds date and just take her on another mini radio tour. I hope a lot of labels learned a valuable lesson this year: pay attention to the release schedule! If there are 100 acts going for adds in the month or two after CRS, uhhh, that might not be a good time to try to 'break' a brand new artist. I really want to kick Big Machine for not releasing RaeLynn's album when "God Made Girls" was top 20 (and it peaked at #7 on Hot Country Songs, btw). Again, I didn't like GMG, but I might have at least liked a few other tracks on the album...and now of course the album is stuck in limbo until another single is able to connect.

Although I know why labels throw caution to the wind in regards to release schedules. They have a set schedule weeks, if not months in advance and will convince themselves to go by their preferred schedule. They have other artists on single release timelines and perhaps Valory just crossed their fingers that RaeLynn had enough momentum from country radio to at least weather the storm of new releases after CRS. Of course, that did not happen and "For A Boy" never stood a shot in the end. It would have been best to lay low for another two to three months and put money in for another mini radio tour, especially since "For A Boy" wasn't even on her debut EP, so there wasn't huge rush IMO.

WKCQ out of Saginaw just played this. Then "I Wouldn't Be a Man" by Josh Turner. I think their PD is drunk because this is WAY out of character for them.
