On Friday, March 6th, I attended the Garth Brooks concert at the First Niagara Center located in Buffalo, NY. It was my first time seeing him at all so I was extremely excited to be in the audience. How did it go?
Well before we get to Garth, i have to talk about the woman who opened for him. Her name is Karyn Rochelle and she is a singer/songwriter from Nashville, Tennessee. She played a four song set which consisted of songs of her own, like "Jezebels" and "Better Off" as well as "From A Table Away" and "Red High Heels" which were hits for Sunny Sweeney and Kellie Pickler, respectively. Karyn had a hand in co-writing those two songs so it's only natural she sang them. Overall she is a very talented lady and i hope to hear more of her someday. Now what about Garth? Well.....
Damn, Garth has a ton of energy. Every song, even the ballads, had a high energy to them and no matter where you sat, Garth made sure at some point during the show to sing right to you. When the lights dimmed and the signal was met that he would be coming on, the stage lit up and out popped Garth who ripped right into the opener, "Man Against Machine", which flowed into another well known song of his, "Rodeo". He kept the energy up for several more songs, including a highlight, "Ain't Goin Down (Til The Sun Comes Up)", where he ran around the stage with the energy of a little kid. After he played one of his many great ballads, "Unanswered Prayers", Garth made a point to say, "I know you're not supposed to play two ballads in a row but I like what I'm hearing", and with that he went to another ballad, "To Make You Feel My Love". The best part? The audience was still enthralled and captivated the whole time. Another highlight was "The Thunder Rolls". During this song, thunderous booms were heard (naturally) while the stage would light up and then dim again to represent the lightning. Plus he added a third verse to the song that the orginial doesn't have, so it was a unique treat. After a while, Garth started into his song "In Another's Eyes" where his wife, Trisha Yearwood, joined him on stage. After that song, Trisha had the spotlight for a while as she sang a four song set which included some of her biggest hits like "XXX'S and OOO's(An American Girl" and "She's In Love With The Boy". If one thing is for sure, the woman can definently sing. Garth rejoined the crowd with his famous hit "Shameless" and the energy stayed in tact, seeming as if it never left. After Garth played arguably his most famous song, "The Dance" he left the stage, but the crowd DEFINENTLY wasn't ready to see him leave, and neither was Garth. He came back out ripping and roaring with "The Fever". After this he left again, this time for a much shorter period as he came back on to sing three more songs, including his very first song, and closer, "Much Too Young (To Feel This Damn Old)". Overall, I could tell that Garth was having just as much fun as the audience was. He really engaged the crowd and made sure that EVERYONE had a great time. In between songs he made sure to thank Buffalo for having him and also to the fans for allowing him to do what he loves, making music. I'll also be attending another show on Sunday so I'll make sure to edit this to compare the two performances. Overall, I just can't say enough good about the show. One of, if not the best concert I've been to.
