Maroon 5 [Adam Levine] [Lost Stars - Music Vid] I'm assuming this was also submitted to Music For Film or whatever, but Adam isn't credited because he didn't write it. I looove this song.

I like Jazmine Sullivan's submissions. I hope she gets some noms, especially "Let It Burn" even if it will be a challenge with "Shame" on Traditional R&B.
Tyrese will also get noms imo. Hoping for Tamar too and K. Michelle because Anywbody Wanna Buy a Heart? was a great album.

Conqueror by Jussie Smollett and Estelle has a good shot at getting those 2 noms in the r&b category.

This Year's Likely Nominees So what does all this mean for this year's Best New Artist race? It suddenly got more competitive. I still think Trainor and Sam Hunt are the front-runners, with gospel/soul singer Leon Bridges also a safe bet for a nomination. Trainor is vying to become the first female pop singer to win in this category since Adele, the 2009 winner. Hunt would become the first male country solo artist ever to win in this category. twenty one pilots and Hozier may be the leading contenders for the two remaining slots. I had previously discounted Hozier, on the grounds that he wasn't able to land another hit after "Take Me To Church," but his album has held up very well on the charts even without a follow-up hit. Many other worthy acts are fighting to break into the top five, should any of these front-runners falter. They include Walk the Moon, Tori Kelly, Elle King, Tinashe, James Bay, Halsey, Shawn Mendes, Echosmith, Fetty Wap, Rae Sremmurd, CHVRCHES, X Ambassadors, Tove Lo, Maddie & Tae, George Ezra, Dej Loaf, Robert DeLong, FKA twigs, Vance Joy, Thomas Rhett, Brett Eldredge, Cole Swindell, Dan + Shay, Kelsea Ballerini, Mikky Ekko, Nico & Vinz, Rico Love, Ella Henderson and Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats. You look at the caliber of most of the names on that list and you see that it's not just an empty platitude when people say "It's an honor just to be nominated." One of the most famous names on the eligibility list is David Duchovny, the former star of The X-Files. Duchovny released his first album, Hell or Highwater, in May. hitsdailydouble.com/news&id=298122

Some suspect stuff in today's Hits Daily Double article (link in the previous post).
But if you're even a partial Grammy nerd, you'd know that Ed Sheeran was nominated for Song of the Year for a song on which he was the principal artist and then received a Best New Artist Grammy nomination the following year.
Again, not sure what he's talking about. This isn't a new exception.
Per a January 2014 article on Grammy.com:
"A GRAMMY nomination in a performance category in a prior year disqualifies an artist from competing in this category, unless the nomination came from a single or a guest spot on another artist's recording, and the artist hadn't yet released a full album."
Since we're talking "performance category," the Song of the Year nomination is irrelevant. Hozier was already in the clear.
Trainor's Record of the Year nomination would have been relevant if she had released a full album in the previous eligibility period. She hadn't.
"All About That Bass was a single, and she hadn't yet released a full album. She, too, was already in the clear.

That Song of the Year thing is a recent exception, so I can see people being confused/surprised. Still, the lack of accuracy in these types of articles no longer surprises me. I don't know how some of these people get jobs because readers and fans often know a lot more than the writers.

I think Chris Stapleton's Traveller should be taken as a serious contender for a potential AOTY nomination. On top of the fact that it's gotten consistent critical acclaim ever since its debut this past May, his (literal) overnight commercial success is making a lot of heads turn.

So, actually voting ended the same day as the CMAs, so pretty much all votes were sent in by the time Stapleton performed and won. His night could help him with the panels if he got enough votes.

^ hitsdailydouble.com/news&id=298369AFTER THE CMAS, THE GRAMMY PLOT THICKENSby Paul Grein After Chris Stapleton's impressive, three-award sweep at the CMAs, the obvious question becomes: Could he also win big at the Grammys in February? Yes, but bear in mind the CMA telecast will have no effect on first-round Grammy voting. Ballots were due to the Grammys' accounting firm, Deloitte, on Nov. 4, the same day the CMA show aired. (Of course, the show may still influence the committee of Grammy insiders that will meet later this month to select the final nominees in the top four categories—assuming Stapleton finishes high enough among rank-and-file voters to reach the committee.) Stapleton's debut solo album, Traveller, which won the CMA award for Album of the Year, is also entered in that category in the Grammy competition. It could land a nomination, though it will be vying with several other strong country or country-leaning albums, including Sam Hunt's Montevallo, Don Henley's Cass County and Kacey Musgraves' Pageant Material. Stapleton also won the CMA award for New Artist of the Year. He wasn't entered in the Grammy competition for Best New Artist—and thus cannot be nominated in that category. (Stapleton was presumably excluded because he was the lead singer and guitarist of The SteelDrivers from 2008 to 2010. That bluegrass band received a few Grammy nominations.) Stapleton's third CMA award was for Male Vocalist of the Year (ending Blake Shelton's five-year lock on that award). He's entered in the equivalent Grammy category, Best Country Solo Performance, for the Traveller title track. Stapleton was entered in several other Grammy categories, including Best Country Album for Traveller and Record and Song of the Year and Best Country Song, all for the album's title track. Little Big Town was a two-time winner at the CMAs. The sultry "Girl Crush" took Single of the Year. The quartet also won Vocal Group of the Year for the fourth year in a row. This was Little Big Town's second CMA award for Single of the Year. The group won for "Pontoon" three years ago. Little Big Town is only the second group or duo in CMA history to win Single of the Year twice. The first was Lady Antebellum. "Girl Crush" also won the CMA award for Song of The Year. The ballad is the first title to win both Single and Song of the Year at the CMAs since The Band Perry's "If I Die Young" four years ago. "Girl Crush" remains likely to be nominated for both Record and Song of the Year at the Grammys. But raises another question: Will the Grammys let the quartet perform the song on their telecast? (Little Big Town performed "Girl Crush" on the CMAs.) The Grammys won't quite admit it, but they seem to lose interest in acts that have performed their songs on rival award shows. The Grammys wouldn't punish an act for performing on their genre's top awards show, would they? (I hope not, because it would be small of them, and the Grammys should never be small.) Despite losing to Stapleton for New Artist of the Year, Sam Hunt remains a likely Grammy finalist for Best New Artist. He would become only the fourth country male solo artist in Grammy history to receive a Best New Artist nom, following Billy Ray Cyrus, Brad Paisley and Hunter Hayes. If Hunt wins in February, he'll become the first country male solo artist ever to win in that category. But he'll have to get past Meghan Trainor to do it. They have been co-favorites in the category for months. And with Stapleton ineligible in that category, they don't have him to worry about.

Even though Traveller is a dirge of an album compared to his SteelDrivers material, Stapleton is such an exceptional vocalist that I can't help but root for him. So glad he's finally getting the recognition he deserves.

I already posted this in the General Rock Discussion thread, but here are my predictions for the rock albums nominees for next year's Grammys:
Best Rock Album: Wilder Mind by Mumford & Sons Rock or Bust by AC/DC The Endless River by Pink Floyd Sonic Highways by Foo Fighters Drones by Muse
Other possibilities: .5: The Gray Chapter by Slipknot, Carrie & Lowell by Sufjan Stevens, I Love You Honeybear by Father John Misty, 1989 by Ryan Adams, The Book of Souls by Iron Maiden, Sol Invictus by Faith No More
Best Alternative Album: Currents by Tame Impala Kintsugi by Death Cab for Cutie The Waterfall by My Morning Jacket Strangers to Ourselves by Modest Mouse Hozier by Hozier
Other possibilities: Sound & Color by Alabama Shakes, Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit by Courtney Barnett, Every Open Eye by CHVRCHES, How Big How Blue How Beautiful by Florence + The Machine, No Cities to Love by Sleater Kinney
IMO, Foo Fighters, AC/DC and Muse are lock-ins. The Arcs could get nominated for best Alt or Rock album if it was more successful, since TBK's Brothers and El Camino were Grammy winners, and Turn Blue was Grammy Nominated. Same for Wolf Alice and Highly Suspect.

I'm already expecting Taylor to get at least 6 nominations and she's already the front runner for AOTY. She's just lucky Adele didn't release 25 until after the eligibility period ended. I'm also fully expecting Chris Stapleton to win Best Country Album. Everything else is up in the air.

While 1989 has undoubtedly been the most prominent record of the last year, AOTY should really be To Pimp a Butterfly. The social implications of that album are far too relevant and important to ignore.

Do all AOTY noms get a performance slot? Is that something I just made up?
If so, I want Carly to get an AOTY nom for that alone so she can do RAWM.

I don't think all AOTY nominees automatically get a spot. There is no actual "rule" for any of that stuff. Of course in general most of the major nominees perform as it just makes sense, but it doesn't always happen. Carly isn't getting an AOTY nom, so no point in hoping, really. Swift is likely to get noms for AOTY, ROTY, SOTY, Pop Album, Pop Solo, and a Collaboration nod. So, yeah, 6. Having said that, "I Knew You Were Trouble" didn't get in ROTY or SOTY so you never know.
