YOUR NEW RELEASESIt’s another battle for #1 on our SPS chart next week as Madonna and the Empire soundtrack lock horns. We’re giving the upside today to the Empire soundtrack as this week’s episode featuring Jennifer Hudson and Mary J. Blige has yet to air and our projection is likely to increase in the next few days. Madonna should lead the album chart at 100-110k. Here are this week’s key debuts: Empire (Turn First/Columbia) 115-125k (90-100k sales) Madonna (Live Nation/Interscope) 115-125k (100-110k sales) Luke Bryan (Capitol Nashville) 95-105k (85-95k sales)

I wouldn't rule out Empire not being all that far behind, either.
Tomorrow's projections should give a somewhat clearer picture.

Republic's Fifty Shades refuses to be submissive and is likely to play rough enough to make this twosome a threesome. dying rn

For Madonna, almost 3 months of pre-order and total 4 weeks of worldwide iTunes main page's big banner promotion and a lot of great promotions like Grammy and Brit awards but 100k? Huh

All that blurb says is that they both will do six digits; there's no total indicated. And what does the pre-order window have to do with it? I didn't pre-order and got the album today. The Grammys was a month ago, and the Brits would have more of an impact on the UK. On what iTunes did it have four weeks of big banners? Not U.S. iTunes, that's for sho'. Anything else?

MDNA's 1st Week: 359k Spring Break 6 1st Week: 74k
Gonna be a tough one. Honestly, I see Madonna taking the edge on this one. I think Luke's streaming numbers are going to be very strong and will definitely help but I don't think Madonna's team would let her bow #2 to Luke's 7th Volume of his Spring Break EPs. They'll discount the album or something if they have to, I'm sure.
Madonna is lucky though. Luke's last full-length LP opened with over 500k, so he would definitely crush her easily if he was releasing a new LP.

^Absolutely- some will be swooping in to bring negativity, no matter how things end up. On a related note, MDNA had a lot more album/ticket bundles than this one will have (as all dates had been on sale a good amount of time before album release), so I don't think that's a valid comparison.

Luke Bryan shouldn't be underestimated, he's quite a force in the music industry.

^Certainly.
If M's album comfortably exceeds 100K, in an industry where a number of acts have been seeing such diminishing returns in recent times, no shame in that.

Im pretty sure the post from Hits said ..Empire is on course for a 6 figure debut as well...
Streeting this week are albums from Live Nation/ Interscope's Madonna and Capitol Nashville's Luke Bryan as well as Turn First/Columbia’s red-hot Empire ST, which is building momentum with each week’s show. The race will be tight and all are on track for six-figure bows

Streeting this week are albums from Interscope's Madonna and Capitol Nashville's Luke Bryan. The race will be tight and both will see six-figure bows, but as we said before, Republic's Fifty Shades refuses to be submissive and is likely to play rough enough to make this twosome a threesome. Will the Top 3 all see 100k+ tallies? That's quite the feat for Q1, and we're sure as hell not complaining. Source Empire needs to be added to the title...hits said its a 4 man race for the top.

Only 100k for Madonna? Wow. Her last album opened with over 300k. That album had the concert ticket bundle contributing to that number though.

To top 6 figures when you don't have a hit song on the radio and don't have that huge concert bundle like last time is still fine. Not getting this "only" stuff. This album isn't relevant to anyone outside of Madonna's fans. Really people should be thankful she's even doing this much.

Also the album has been out so long even in finished form. In a climate where the hottest young female singers with smash hits are doing under 300k this is a good number.

Please re-read what HITS said.
Nowhere does it say Madonna will debut with 100k.
Tricky HITS or is it a tricky Duca?

Luke Bryan shouldn't be underestimated, he's quite a force in the music industry. And that's something that i would never understand, i find him generic and bland (by the way i heard Crash your party on a supermarket yesterday, which was all kinds of weird because country is not exactly what i was expecting to hear)

Probably a better figure for MDNA is to compare it to about 180k which I think was the non-redemption total roughly.

Luke is currently #1 on iTunes. Madonna is currently #5; however, I'm sure most of Madonna's sales won't be digital.

^Not for all the shows like last time. Only a few for the first week...
Which is why I'm going with 150k.

Has Madge some promo appearances in line for this week?
This new system for BB200 doesn't really favour the non-digital acts but hope she gets the #1. Her biggest rival could actually be Empire.

She did interviews on the TODAY show earlier this week. I'm not aware of any performances though (sucks that The Tonight Show is off this week, but I also wonder if someone like her would even do a traditional promo performance like that)

My prediction for Madonna is 183k. Hardcore fans buying 3 editions needs to count for something, right.

Also- remember that the iTunes pre-orders have not been applied to ranking since being officially released- but they still count for first-week sales, of course.
RE the bundle- it's only the Super Deluxe digital this time; no CDs.
BTW- Bryan's album is available in EP form and also as an 11-track full-length that includes the six tracks from his previous EP.
