Thompson Square's upcoming single is called "Trans Am". KNCI 105.1 confirmed it during a recent visit from Shawna and Keifer last week. Apparently some fans of theirs know the song too. I should have known that from the teaser. Lol

Words cannot describe how excited I am for this song! It feels like it's been forever since I've heard from Thompson Square. Hope that their new single bounces back from the flops of their last two singles. I love this duo, and with the exception of Maddie & Tae recently coming onto the scene, they're really the only one out there worth listening to right now, imo.

Up on iTunes now.. Not impressed by the preview. I'll reserve full judgement until I hear the entire song, but from the clip it just seems like a slightly better version of Lady A's "Freestyle".

Just listened to it....and bought it. Under 3 minutes of pure ear candy...interesting production on a Kiefer led track. I think it is the perfect solution to hopefully get them back in the good graces of radio. Radio needs T2, and I don't think there is a way that this is not a hit. Definitely not a heavy substance song if that is what your hoping for.

Damn, that is a stunning picture of Shawna.
One of the best single covers in a LONG time.

Previewed and downloaded the song. I have always like T2. I was completely disappointed that their last album's singles didn't fare all that well. ("Testing The Water" and "I Can't Outrun You"). The single does not have a substance as bigfan101 said below. This song has a great deal of energy. I feel that country radio is gravitating toward the more energetic uptempo singles. There is a fresh quality to Kiefer's voice... that may be because I've missed hearing them. Cannot wait for the album! They are the one duo aside from Maddie & Tae out at county radio right now which I can handle (for lack of better term). I love these guys.

Hopefully radio takes a shine to Striking Matches (who are backed by Capitol Music Group in Hollywood so you'd think they'd see that the label will be around for a while).

I've met Kiefer and Shawna 3 times. They are always great to visit with. This song is a good one. I had to download it.

I know they haven't been huge digital sellers outside of "Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not", but this song sure isn't impressing on iTunes for a brand new single release. Currently at #180 on Country iTunes Chart. Guys who have yet to have a hit single are doing better with their new singles. As for the song itself, it's not bad, and I could definitely see it growing on me. I don't expect this to be a huge hit though, and all I can see it doing his prolonging their stay at radio a little bit longer. But if the sales don't pick up for them in their career, I don't see radio continuing to support these two. Hopefully they can catch a new wind of excitement, because I had a chance to see these two live and I left the show quite impressed.

I didn't expect digital sales for this to be strong out of the gate. They aren't *that* big and sales are down across the board. Without airplay, I didn't expect they'd get much in the way of early reaction. I do think this will do pretty well for them though. They took a gamble with "Testing the Water" that didn't pay off, and then releasing "I Can't Outrun You" was basically a waste because that probably wouldn't have done much better even if they had momentum. Aside from those two though, they've done quite well at radio, and I can see this single being able to bounce them back.
As for the song itself, I love it. Definitely very much in their wheelhouse and is very catchy and accessible to radio. The melody and production on this are really, really enjoyable. If Stoney Creek could get "Close Your Eyes" and "Like a Cowboy" all the way to the Top 5, I imagine doing that with this should only be an easier feat.

Hmm, this song is quite catchy! I had my reservations after seeing it called a slightly better version of Lady A's "Freestyle" upthread, because I absolutely loathed that song. But this one has me hooked on the first listen! I definitely hope it can be a hit for them. The rock edge really works with this song. Even the sexual undertones are tasteful, and actually somewhat funny (particularly in the first verse when he is talking about his car as a "she", and he says "she looks pretty good with her top off.") I could see it really growing on me as we enter summer soon too!

Wow I wasn't expecting to dislike this song so much. This is just bad to my ears and not what I expected out of Thompson Square.

Unfortunately what i feel we have here is the same thing as EYBs "turn it on" - A pandering to mainstream radio race to the bottom culmination of feel-less schlock.

This is a short write up of Thompson Square's "Trans Am" and their new upcoming music on CountryMusicRocks"Trans AM” showcases a grittier, fun-loving side of the married duo. The song captures the brazen passion and energy of Thompson Square’s live shows, something fans have long since celebrated. “This new music is a very tempo-driven project that probably represents us more than both of its predecessors,” says Keifer Thompson. “’Trans Am’ is a state of mind. It’s about liberation and not being painted into a corner. These new recordings show a more aggressive side of Thompson Square and reflects what fans experience at our live shows. It’s a lot of fun for us."

I'm just not feeling this song and I've liked all their single thus far pretty well...odd because Smokey and the Bandit is one of my favorite films and this should have a nostalgia pop, but it doesn't really.
If they could get Burt Reynolds and Sally Fields to appear in the music video that would be AMAZING!

Josh Thompson has one called "Firebird" along these same lines that blows this one out of the water but will likely never see the light of day.

I feel like they've always been pretty on-point with uptempos anyway, so this doesn't really seem like a change of pace to me. Their last album was definitely more on the uptempo side than it was the ballad side. I really feel like this song is totally in their lane of what I expect from Thompson Square, and I enjoy it a lot.

Just listened to this and I am not impressed at all. Sounds like a mediocre album track. I'm hoping this will grow on me, but first impression is not good for this, which is disappointing because I love them.

It's catchy. Not their best, but still good. Reminds me a bit of "Chrome" by Trace Adkins.

If this rousing number is a preview of their forthcoming CD, then I'll definitely be buying it the day it's released; I still play their first two CDs a lot, and I expect to play the heck out of CD #3 as well whenever it's released.

I'm really disappointed in this one. I love Thompson Square, but "Trans Am" is an over-produced mess, and I find the lyrics pretty cringe-worthy.
And I know this doesn't go for adds for another 2 weeks yet, but there are signs that it might already be struggling. I didn't exactly expect it to blast out of the gate on iTunes, but even so, its sales were quite a bit lower than what I thought they'd be. And what's worse (or good, I guess, since I don't like this song) is that this one is off to a slow start at radio. Again, I know the adds date isn't here yet, but this was delivered to radio last week Monday the 23rd and it only got 1 add. I wasn't expecting double digit adds or anything like that, but I definitely expected a lead single from Thompson Square to get a handful of adds well in advance of its adds date. They're a big enough name that I figured a decent handful of stations wouldn't wait until the adds date to add "Trans Am". I'm sure it'll get a few more adds this coming Monday and then a good amount (30+) on the 13th, but after its first full week of availability to radio, only 1 station added it? Not a good sign, in my opinion, and I've been following the charts for quite some time..

Not a good sign, in my opinion, and I've been following the charts for quite some time.. You're not alone with your pessimistic feel to this one. The fact it was delivered to radio already and it's on iTunes, I was thinking like 3 or 4 adds this week, with another 4 or 5 next week, then 30-35 come the 13th. I actually still expect this one to do alright at radio, but I'm not thinking they'll match the peak of "If I Didn't Have You" or "Everything I Shouldn't Be Thinking About". The sales numbers were lower than I expected but they've never really been huge sellers with most of their singles. Either way, I'm thinking there's a chance this one takes off slow at radio come May or June. I really enjoy Thompson Square and I think they have great music, but they're just not a huge move the needle act. I think Stoney Creek has done a wonderful job with them over the years though and I do believe they are on the right label to maximize their success. Again, we're not even at the add day yet and "Trans Am' still can be very successful, but I too am not about to hold my breath here (I actually find the song enjoyable though, lol).

Broken Bow doesn't always seem to make the greatest decisions when it comes to what they call "artist development." Releasing not only one more single but two after "Everything I Shouldn't Be Thinking About" was pretty silly after how much ETISBTA killed the duo's momentum, and then rather than finding a new lead single that brings some unique style or theme to set Thompson Square apart from the tens of other acts trying to break or rise above C-list status, the label goes with an extremely generic, mediocre song about riding around in a car. This song has been done before so many times, only much better in my opinion.
Broken Bow Music Group does this with their artists all the time, too. They have released a few occasional "anomalies," such as "Cowboys and Angels" and "Like a Cowboy" and their music certainly isn't bad or offensive, but just about all the label's single choices tend to be as generic and pandering as they get (Parmalee's "Close Your Eyes" and "Already Callin' You Mine," Dustin Lynch's "She Cranks My Tractor," "Wild in Your Smile," "Where It's At," and "Hell of a Night," Joe Nichols' "Yeah" and "Hard to Be Cool," David Fanning's "Doin' Country Right," Randy Houser's "How Country Feels," "Runnin' Outta Moonlight," and "Goodnight Kiss," Jason Aldean's past several singles). I'm not even against bro-country as a movement by any means, or even the majority of the singles Broken Bow has released, but I'm not a fan of Broken Bow's overall approach of releasing the safest possible music and spending a year pushing one song up the charts even though most of the time it seems no one is buying the artist's music. When Broken Bow does get a song that actually sells halfway decently (i.e. "Yeah") it somehow ends up being one of the longest-running #1's of the year.
I can see this one struggling to climb up the charts and then peaking below #1. I'm still split on whether I think Thompson Square will hang around much longer, though. I can see the second single totally whiffing like "Testing the Water" but I can also see their second single surprising me and catching on better than this (which I would hope for).

Please explain how a top 5 single which finished a very respectable 30th on the year-end Mediabase chart killed their momerntim at country radio?
