I know Stoney Creek will probably not want to throw in the title until the bitter end since this label group hardly ever does til then but this song isn't doing anything. Thompson Square will likely need another song to get this album out. I actually think they pulled the plug on this, probably making the decision either late last week or today sometime. The Stoney Creek ad in tonight's Country Aircheck Weekly features only Parmalee's "Already Callin' You Mine" and Randy Houser's "We Went". The BBR imprints almost always feature all of their current singles; occasionally they'll do a big full page ad for just one of them, but since "Trans Am" was released it's always been featured on the Stoney Creek ad alongside Parmalee and Randy Houser...until tonight.

Ah that's right. This definitely got pulled then if they left it off the Stoney Creek ad in Aircheck this evening. This song has not sold well and I can't imagine it's tested all that well either -- just a lifeless chart run that resulted in no buzz whatsoever. The writing was on the wall back In late May or early June to be quite honest.

I saw that they were missing from the Stoney Creek ad in the new Country Aircheck and totally forgot that Thompson Square is always included in an ad when they have an active single out. So, if this was pulled then I would say it is the best thing to do at this point. The chart run for this was nauseating to watch and although I liked the song, there was no fluff and clearly it didn't register well with radio. I hope they get at least one more shot single wise. I really want new music from them but I want it (and it needs) to do well.

"Trans Am" did post a small gain in both spins and audience this morning. We'll have to wait and see if it hangs in there this week though. It's definitely not an encouraging sign that it was left off of Stoney Creek's ad, and it's also not a good sign that "Trans Am" didn't get any adds yesterday. Parmalee got another 3 adds and climbed into the Mediabase top 30, and Randy Houser got another 9 adds.

"Trans Am" got no adds the week before as well, and only one add on the July 6th issued MB chart. I don't think it's as if Stoney Creek forgot to include this song since it has really been struggling but I'm just assuming that they see that this song is not doing much more and are inching very close to pulling the plug anyway. I'm fairly confident this single won't be doing much more than what it has already accomplished.

I was just pointing out that it did post a small gain in spins and audience today, despite being left off the Stoney Creek ad last night. :)

It looks like that small gain got cancelled out today. I think they pulled the plug. Thompson Square really needs to find a song that sells and sells well and they need it fast otherwise they could get dropped from their label. Trans Am was a total lyrical nothing but I did like the song overall but I just didn't see it as a hit. I think they need more of a duet song to make them stand out. I think they'll be one last song and then if that doesn't click then they will be in trouble.

This one isn't done yet. If it were, it would be losing way more airplay instead of just holding flat like it's been this week. The lack of an ad suggests that maybe Stoney Creek isn't really planning on working this anymore, but they haven't officially pulled the plug yet, so they're just letting all the stations that have already been playing "Trans Am" keep it in rotation until a new single is ready. This has definitely peaked, though, and I don't think Thompson Square has more than one chance left to score a hit before they become totally irrelevant. Their past three singles have missed the Top 40 and "Everything I Shouldn't Be Thinking About" was able to climb the charts because it was radio-friendly but had terrible sales. This duo has just been having a hard time replicating the consumer passion that "Are You Gonna Kiss Me or Not" generated.

"Trans Am" actually got knocked out of the MB top 50 rolling chart this morning by Kelsea's "Dibs", along with the surge of "Love Is Your Name" (due to Westwood One play). It should re-enter the final update later this afternoon and evening.
I agree about Thompson Square being close to becoming irrelevant. They had huge hit to propel them at radio ("Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not") and another long lasting #1 ("If I Didn't Have You") but have been doing pretty substandard since then. They have a strong indie label behind them, which has helped them immensely throughout the past 5 years, but things have got to get better for them, pronto.

I think they just left some letters out of the title. Clearly they wanted a song about transhumanism but an unfortunate typo led to this garbage instead.

It's been heartbreaking to see this duo and song struggle like it has recently, but I do think they could've hit us harder as far as lead singles go. I actually don't mind this song; it ain't their best, but I've heard much worse and have seen several examples of pure confusion and silliness* becoming smash hits (i.e. "Burnin' It Down", "Make Me Wanna", "Sun Daze", and coming up soon "Real Life", "Kick the Dust Up", and "Crash and Burn"). However, I think keeping this on the charts is delaying the inevitable (missing the top 40) and perhaps halting any progress on their third album, if any has been made. Maybe "Trans Am" should've been an album track or a teaser single instead?
* substitution for trash/garbage/etc.

Well, "Trans Am" was able to eek out a bullet on tonight's Billboard chart, so they're guaranteed at least another 2 chart appearances (unless the bottom falls out, and this drops all the way below #60 of course). I just don't get the sense that the label is promoting this anymore (mostly because it's going nowhere, and because they removed it from their ads where it had been featured alongside the Parmalee and Randy Houser singles).
Furthermore, "Trans Am" has spent 71 days in the Mediabase top 50, never getting any higher than #45. That's an awful long time to spend in one region (45-50) of the chart.

Stoney Creek definitely has stopped promoting "Trans Am" as Thompson Square has lost 63 spins and over 200k in audience this week, and this after "Trans Am" lost 88 points and its bullet this past MB chart week. This upcoming week will be "Trans Am's" last chart appearance on MB (#45 peak). This song spent 12 consecutive weeks in a six spot position, from #51 to #45 on the MB chart -- that's embarrassingly bad.
Stoney Creek will need to try another single to get this album out.

I was hoping for a new CD from these folks before Christmas, but that appears to be a longshot.
