One of my favorite tracks from my favorite album of the 2010s (so far). Hoping it gets far more airplay.

How is this decreasing? This song is hot. It doesn't really fit with the rest of the urban hits out now. If there was a Urban Hot AC format, this would've been huge on it. BTW, why isn't there a Urban Hot AC format? There definitely a market for it

Back in 2010-2011, I used to say that rhythmic needed to be developed into a more specific format to accommodate people like Keri Hilson, Ciara, Kelly R., etc. who were too r&b to be played on pop, too poppy to be played consistently on urban, and too contemporary and young to have a real chance with UAC. There was nothing outdated or even terribly unpopular about this subset, it was just a category of music that got screwed over when pop and urban decided to run in opposite directions from one another and wouldn't touch anything in the center with a ten-foot pole. That sounds about in line with J. Rob's idea I suppose, and rap like Kendrick or J. Cole would fit in well with that too. I don't know how big the market would be for it, though.

Kinda......add in some Alt-R&B, non-ratchet Hip Hop, and some 2000s Urban hits that catered to a mature audience

Speaking of such, I actually was hosting something similar on the now defunct grooveshark by the name of "Urban Jams". It was essentially a grown up take on Urban music while playing the rap music that Urban AC stations lacked. People like Common, J.Cole, Ken, with very little of the gimmicky stuff. (snap/trap) It also had a lot emphasis on quality and played material that wasn't available elsewhere such as the discography of Aaliyah and Dr. Dre. I think that would probably be the closest thing to what you're all saying.

I think that's what Urban AC is slowly turning into with the shift in target demo for the format. It may take another 10 years or so though for most of the format's listeners to have grown up with rap all over Urban radio (if the format's even around by then). Urban AC is already playing more rap than it was 10 years ago.
