Eligible to go recurrent 10/4 So what spot would it need to be above to not then, assuming it's still crawling along. I believe it must be in the top 40, and have two weeks of spin losses (e.g. 4000 spins at first, 3000 week 1, 2000 week 2)

Does anybody have any theories as to why this song seems to climb during the weekend and fall back during the week? Is that a typical pattern for songs that have been out so long? It makes me think the chart action is reaching markets that haven't really shown the song much support, but since I don't usually follow US charts (I'm a brit) I'm possibly just missing a pattern or something. There is no pattern, just drop this conversation already!!!! It's just a song that's getting unstable radio updates and THAT'S IT. I really hope it goes recurrent so all of this would finally end

My question was on topic, in the right place and asked politely. I'm sorry you don't like the conversations being held, but nobody is forcing you to read or participate. There is definitely a pattern with this track - it rises on iTunes every weekend and falls back during the week - I was trying to understand why that might be happening, whether that is a typical pattern or particular to this song!

^ it's the weekend countdown shows i think. i'm a bit confused, though. i remember you said you hated this song "so much" (was that you? apologies if it was somebody else). i would not make the effort to study its "pattern" if i hate a song, just saying . Because I'm a glambert :) I can hate a song personally, (and I really do) and still hope that it does well for Adam. Bigger picture and all that. If I liked the song, I'd probably be paying closer attention, but even with occasional glances in here and on iTunes I've noticed, not studied, that pattern. Now I'm simply asking people who have studied charts, what that might mean, especially for the overall level of support. Thank you for answering. Do you know if that is typical for songs that have been out for so long or is it a suggestion that there are still many markets that are only being reached via countdown shows? ETA: Thank-you DylanCLG. Interesting that Uptown Funk saw a similar situation - I've got a dozen more questions now, but I'll let it be, don't want to make people cross.

Actually when new music release was on Tuesday the song would drop for a bit then and climb back as the week went on. When new music started coming out on Friday the song dropped then and climbed back as the week went on. This is actually the first weekend since then that it has actually climbed on the weekend but not sure if there is something else going on because while it has climbed a bit on the overall the position on Pop has not.
Now I'm specifically talking about the explicit track which is charting highest. If the overall rank that Kworb is reporting behaves differently then that is likely due to the clean version having a different sales pattern. The clean version has charted higher overall since the radio AI increased so that particular version may be responding to weekend countdown spins, etc.

This definitely answered all my questions. I guess I was looking mostly at the weekend it would be like 100+ on a Friday and then at least 10 spots higher by Sunday. I went to Kworbs site and looked at earlier weekdays and it is definitely more that it drops on a Friday, than climbs at the weekend. Thanks for taking the time to explain to a casual but interested observer what is really happening.

No problem I happen to be keeping a text file record of the itunes positions that I pull twice a day. I get the top 1500 overall from livepopbars site then get the pop positions (top 200) from itunes. It's a bummer that I can't get top 1500 pop positions anymore but I can't afford livepopbars premium service. I only wish I had it set up in spreadsheet form but I'm not any good with spreadsheets beyond super basic usage. If anyone wanted to take a shot at converting I'd be happy to send the file to them. :) Just tracking Adam's stuff though not anyone else's.

This song sort of feels like a non-event outside of radio.

iTunes US: #89 + #393
They should feature this in a commercial or something. Feels like the right song for it.

This song sort of feels like a non-event outside of radio. yeah, no promo, no anything. just quietly picking up ~15k sales every week from airplay. the total is roughly 300k now i think? why doesn't he do more promo to sell the song? :(

He hit about 7 or 8 different countries in the last couple of weeks. Right now he's in Sao Paulo for the SA tour with Queen. He's gets back to the US on Oct 1st, has a radio show in NYC on the 8th and a radio show in Amsterdam on the 10th. He's been going pretty non stop since the single dropped in April but he's all over the world, literally. He also has Live in the Vineyard coming up in November but probably they'll have moved to the next single by then. I'm guessing this is a final push on Ghost Town before he comes back to the States and launches the next one. But again that's a guess.

I don't get this song's weird performance and just dug into the mediabase data a bit. Over half of the top 20 markets are not playing it at all. It's basically the top 4 markets (NY, LA, Chi, SF) and the small markets which are playing this song. Now I'm more convinced that something's going on with this - that we don't know about. But I also see potential - a lot of new markets (if they will ever play) which means new sales. I guess this kind of explains why the countdown shows have been giving the song nice boosts in sales.
Weekend updates have been disappointing but, best wishes that the weekday ones will be back to normal! I don't know you guys but almost five months in, I'm still not ready to move on to the next single. :)

Yes. My local stations have always been that way, unless we're talking big name artist and even then they usually wait until top 20 or so to add.

I don't know why the label has never discounted this song. It should be close to gold by now including streaming.

It CAN still get there this week, it just needs to not utterly die. 5SOS is plummeting and if Adam can be #21 in the Sunday morning update he'll be pulled to #20 by Skrillex/Diplo going recurrent. After that, I just hope if it dies it's a slow death so that it can still go recurrent rather than getting purged 1-2 weeks out.
