^Each Tuesday in the HITS I post the new albums that are out. I listed both Wale and Ludacris so be sure to check the HITS thread each Tuesday. Kurt, why is HITS mad at Atlantic?

Kurt, why is HITS mad at Atlantic? Good question - I can't say for sure, but I've heard it's because of Lyor Cohen and/or their advertising relationships with other labels. It's just super comical to watch them constantly pretend Atlantic doesn't exist - even in their recent marketshare scorecard, they just completely skip where Atlantic would be.

I was not expecting Wale to post such numbers. Anything above 50k would have been a surprise for me. Luda's more in line with what I expected.

Considering Ludacris hasn't had a huge hit as a solo artist in a while (his latest single is struggling), I'd say his numbers are quite good. There's also less hype for Wale's new album compared to his previous album, so I'd say his numbers are respectable too. Meh debuts for Darius Rucker, Death Cab for Cutie and Three Days Grace, and Hollywood Undead seem to continue their popularity decline.

But his last album did 158K first week and the one before that did 164K...? Not saying the drop is terrible or unexpected, but it's not like this is high by his standards.

Damn Wale snatching again. Without a main single, that's good. I heard the album was good. Expected for Luda, since he had plenty of failed singles to boot.

It hasn't peaked yet, but so far, that and The Body did not impact the Hot 100 as much as Bad or Lotus Flower Bomb did.

Hmm I kind of feel Kendrick's numbers have been very disappointing so far, considering his buzz. I would have thought he would do over 100K for a couple of weeks. I guess 500K in three weeks that most wish they could do now.

Luda is lucky he has Furious 7 this weekend as well which is helping since he has been promoting the album/movie this week on several places. without the movie, he probably would be much lower.

Sam Smith has really developed some legs this spring. Since the release of the album his sales are really constant with some peaks but really never dropping too much in sales. I don't think Lay me down will be as successful as previous singles (i still think it will work better as fourth of fifth single) but it seems enough to carry the sales. And he became an artist who really takes profit of any expossure. If the album continues to release sizable hits, In the lonely hour could end higher than 2.5 million at the end of its run

Yeah, I'm actually surprised he is even doing this much. I didn't realize F7 was this weekend, but that explains why Def Jam finally stuck with a date even though there were no hits.

He's still on pace to outsell GKMC (which I doubt will happen, but....he is currently on pace)

Seems Billboard only posted one article this week and it was Thursday, not Wednesday or Friday. www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/6523933/wale-album-about-nothing-number-1-seinfeldWale's 'Seinfeld'-Inspired Album Heading for No. 1 on Billboard 200 ChartBy Keith Caulfield | April 02, 2015 7:49 PM EDT Rapper Wale is aiming for No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart with his latest release, The Album About Nothing. Industry forecasters suggest the set -- which is inspired by the comedy series Seinfeld and features Jerry Seinfeld himself -- may earn over 90,000 in equivalent album units in the week ending April 5. The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week based on multi-metric consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The new Billboard 200’s top 10 will be revealed on Wednesday, April 8. If The Album About Nothing debuts at No. 1, it would mark Wale’s second leader, following 2013’s The Gifted. The latter set opened atop the list with 158,000 copies sold (in traditional album sales). Also, if Wale hits No. 1 (and thus bumps current champ Kendrick Lamar and his To Pimp a Butterfly out of the penthouse) it will grant the Billboard 200 back-to-back rap No. 1s for the first time in over a year. It last happened on the March 22, 2014-dated chart, when Rick Ross’ Mastermind debuted at No. 1, the week after Schoolboy Q’s Oxymoron bowed atop the tally. As for the rest of the top debuts on next week’s chart, look for Ludacris’ Ludaversal and Death Cab for Cutie’s Kintsugi to both possibly start in the top 10.

Sam Smith has really developed some legs this spring. It's been discounted a few times, which has definitely helped. It was $6.99 on iTunes last week and at other points too.

He also got some press for his April Fools Day tweet about being straight, so his name was out there a little more this week too. That didn't move a bunch of units, but there's no such thing as bad press (unless it involves jail time)

22 albums sold over 20,000 copies this week. That's amazing, no? 11 over 30k and 6 over 40k. Granted, the #1 album only sold 90,000 copies but still. This year has been fun.

Huh? It's going to be certified platinum before too long. Nicki is only at 578k. With SPS she's at 975k + whatever her total this week is; she'll be certified under that. HEARTBEAT was probably talking only about the raw numbers, and it would be nice to see her hit a million in raw sales, but even by that standard Nicki is not doing badly, IMO.
