As kanimal reported in the country thread, Sam Hunt's "Take Your Time" is now being pushed to pop and HAC radio by Capitol Records, as confirmed by Billboard. Currently #2 (below "Homegrown") on country radio and #47 HAC.

Yay. Love this one. I think "Leave the Night On" is more pop-friendly than this is, but still happy nonetheless. Not sure how well this'll do though.

...but not "Leave the Night On"? That was probably the poppiest song to chart on country in years bar "We Are Never Ever."

I love this song and most if not all of his songs on his Montevallo album. I echo the sentiments above though that his single before this, Leave The Night On, is more deserving of a cross over airplay. That is still one of my most played songs right now.

I actually think this is the right choice for him to cross over with. It showcases his talk-sing style, which is more accessible for pop than Leave The Night On.

The talking parts are a total turnoff for me; and ruin what could've been a song I may have liked.

I can actually see this becoming a hit on pop. It's definitely different for the format just like it is for country (with the "talking" parts, even though they do seem to make the song polarizing). I think "Leave The Night On" was definitely crossover-friendly as well, but I can see how the label might've felt that it wasn't unique enough to make a dent on the pop radio charts.

It's time for a country crossover (without a rap part)

Leave the Night On should have crossed over, but I'm fine with this crossing over too

If this does well on pop, I can see them sending "Leave The Night On" after. The next country single is "House Party", which is a lot more country sounding than both of these singles, so that would give them an opportunity, and nothing else really screams "pop smash" on the album. Plus remember "If I Die Young" was released to pop way after peaking on country, so it wouldn't be the first time something like that happened.
Not saying it's a given of course, but it is a possibility.

He needs a more country single for the country chart, right now country radio seems to love him, but what he is doing is very different from what's on on that chart (that's another reason to try a crossover, country radio received very well Hunter Hayes first hits but not the last ones). Leave the night on is perfect for pop, and there's no reason to release the same songs for all formats. But of course this needs to become at least a decent hit first

By the way the talking style of singing reminds me a bit of Shawn Mullings' big hit Lullaby

By the way the talking style of singing reminds me a bit of Shawn Mullings' big hit Lullaby But SEXIER :) Well, Shawn Mullins didn't even try to be sexy, if my memory doesn't fail his talking style started when he realize that people didn't shut up when he start the song singing, so he talked, people stop the noise and he started to sing. And then he incorporate that to the composition of the songs. I have to say i'm surprised of Sam's success on country, because frankly anyone who is trying something new, musically or lyrically is hitting a wall there, but he is doing quite well (anyway, the better he cross to pop the better because country djs could change their minds). The lack of diversity and the amount of payola in the country chart is really surprising

They need to send this fast, before country gives up on it Country isn't "giving up on it". The song has been promoted to Country radio since November, and has been peaking at an insane amount of audience the past few weeks. He is currently on pace to be #1 on the Country Airplay charts. It's simply his time to be done on radio there, people can only hear one song so much.

Go Away Sam Hunt. Why can't we a good country song cross over? Something that isn't about drinking or getting laid?

The hook "I don't wanna take your heart, I just wanna take your time" means "I wanna have sex with you."

The hook "I don't wanna take your heart, I just wanna take your time" means "I wanna have sex with you." It is not actually. It's about taking the time to get to know someone and hoping a relationship can blossom through it.

Go Away Sam Hunt. Why can't we a good country song cross over? Something that isn't about drinking or getting laid? Like who? because frankly 90% of what is doing well on country will fail if they try to cross to pop. There are songs that probably could work on pop but they weren't big enough on country to try, because that chart is totally dominated by bro country singers. And i know country radio is supporting him, but country radio supported Hunter Hayes at first too till the moment they stopped, and i won't be surprised if Sam ends suffering the same fate, because frankly his songs are even more in the border of pop than Hunter's

So happy it's being pushed to pop radio, and without rapping mix.
