I just took one of those radio surveys for the callout scores and it had Bad Blood on there twice. Once with the original album version, and once with the Kendrick remix. I guess radio is trying to figure out which one listeners will prefer

I like the bass in the remix way more than on the original, but I don't find Kendrick adds anything to the song. Is there a version with the bass from the remix that doesn't have the rap?

Had to listen to a bunch of teenage girls singing the chorus of this while they were in the line for the bumper cars today. So what did I do? Rapped Kendrick's verses for them of course! And they LOVED it.

Love the video, enjoying the remix, and yes it was clever marketing that got this to #1. Good job, Taylor and team!

The fact that this hit #1 on the Hot 100 in (basically) its 1st week, gives them even more time to figure out the marketing for the 5th single #outtathewoodzplz
I wonder if they have any more promo lined up for this since it did what it was supposed to do in just a week.

Honestly, this era could not be going more perfectly (expect for her not performing Style at the Grammys, but in retrospect I understand she was worried about her mom). Hopefully Bad Blood lasts the summer, and then she can premiere single #5 at the VMAs while winning Video of the Year for Bad Blood, Best Pop Video for Shake it Off, Best Female Video for Blank Space, and Best Visual Effects for Style. With that said, I'd love the rest of the singles to go: 5) Out of the Woods (VMA performance) 6) Wildest Dreams (Grammy Performance) 7) How You Get the Girl/All You Had To Do Was Stay/New Romantics

Considering the marketing blitz of all the releases this era except Style, I have to wonder if they initially had a smart and aggressive campaign planned to get Style to #1 as well and then Taylor dropped it when her mom got sick?

^Maybe they never believed Style was worthy of an aggressive push, it didnt sound like a #1 song to me IMO. And it wasnt even officially selected as a single, radio just started playing it

"Style" starting getting airplay around the time of the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show performance. "Blank Space" starting getting airplay around "1989" release week and was one of the best sellers of the album tracks at the time. With the lack of promo this era after New Year's, Hope there is at least one performance of "Bad Blood" with Kendrick Lamar this summer. Taylor is on tour at the moment but a spot on a TV Show or Summer Awards Show will get the song even more hype. :)

She could do a concert special for any of the morning or late night shows, besides that, very limited options in terms of promo. America's Got Talent,Teen Choice Awards,or a 4th of july special. I wanna see her do the VMAs, she has a show the day before but i think she could do it

So, do we know how many points it edged out SYA by? I just remember the billboard story saying that it was close but not how close. I just wonder if the increase in airplay will be able to make up for the decline in sales/streaming to keep the #1 spot..

Taylor Swift, Marketing Genius: How "Bad Blood" Went Right To Number One Yesterday, it was announced that Taylor Swift had secured herself another number one—her third from her most recent album, 1989, and the fourth of her career. Hitting the top spot is always an impressive feat, but Taylor’s achievement is truly something, considering the genius of the marketing strategy behind its meteoric rise and the short time it took to hit the summit (less than two weeks). There were several parts to her plan, and she combined them all and pulled the entire thing off flawlessly. The Hottest Name in Hip-Hop Big fans of the former country singer already knew “Bad Blood”, as they’ve likely bought a copy of 1989 by now, but Swift changed things up for the single version by adding several rap verses by Kendrick Lamar, one of the biggest talents in hip-hop today. Not only will this likely persuade people to buy the single—even if they already own the album—but it opens the song up to an audience that might not be currently listening to her new music. Putting Kendrick on the track means it has a chance of being played on hip-hop radio, one of the few worlds left for her to conquer. \ The Coolest Girls in School Taylor has always made funny, endearing videos that go viral and help propel her singles further up the charts—the clips for “Shake It Off”, “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together”, “You Belong With Me”, and “Blank Space” are all good examples—but this time around, she switched things up, and it made people pay attention. “Bad Blood” was an action-packed epic, and a major production by anyone’s standards. As if the special effect explosions and sexy costumes weren’t enough, Taylor recruited many of her female friends to co-star in the video, and she made sure to surround herself with women who had powerful names. Three groups of celebrities joined in the fun: musicians (Hayley Williams of Paramore, Ellie Goulding, and Selena Gomez), world-famous models (Cara Delevigne, Karlie Kloss, and Cindy Crawford) and actors (Mariska Hargitay, Ellen Pompeo, and Jessica Alba) all came together to bring more star power to this music video than most summer blockbusters. An Aggressive Social Lead Up With her friends on board, Taylor increased her social reach several times over…and her following is already massive. Swift and the other women teased cameo after cameo, with each one sharing what was essentially a movie poster with their respective character on Instagram. This process took weeks to complete, as there are over a dozen famous faces in the video. Each reveal prompted a new wave of stories in the media and a frenzy on social media, and with each tease, anticipation grew. A High-Profile Video Release Taylor Swift is at a level of fame where no matter how or when she releases a music video, it will receive tens of millions of views. She’s past worrying about that, but that doesn’t mean she isn’t going to try to secure the largest audience possible. The Billboard Music Awards was the perfect opportunity for Taylor to premiere her latest masterpiece, and the producers behind the ceremony knew that as well. The show opened with her clip, and from there it took on a life of its own. Putting all this renewed effort into this specific single is smart timing, as it comes a bit later in the album’s campaign. By now, 1989 has already sold millions of copies, and it was beginning to work its way down the charts (though it never left the top ten). Making this big of a splash for the fourth single will breathe new life into the album, which likely still has a long way to go before we’ve heard the last of it. How many artists can say that their album is sitting at number two on the charts seven months after it was released? With this latest coup, Taylor and her team have yet again shown themselves to be the best in the music marketing world. www.forbes.com/sites/hughmcintyre/2015/05/28/taylor-swift-marketing-genius-how-bad-blood-went-right-to-number-one/2/ Even before I read this article its pretty clear her marketing team is amazing and genius. To maximize her potential to this degree? magical.

I guess radio is trying to figure out which one listeners will prefer Out of curiosity, who was running the survey you filled out? It's a weekly survey on ratethemusic.com. I assume its for call out scores with the way the site asks the user to review the songs each week. For each song, it asks familiarity, likeness, and burnout rate. Also, I was just listening to the radio, Kiss FM, and the DJ was talking about how great the Bad Blood remix is and then he played the original version of the song. I don't understand the logic of raving about the remix and then playing the original right after that. Especially when I'd rather listen to the remix lol

Maybe I'm the only one, but I like the original version of Bad Blood. The remix doesn't really feel like Taylor's song to me because of Kendrick Lamar having both verses. If he had one verse, I probably wouldn't care. At least with the original, Taylor sings the whole song.
I don't know, that's just me.

The original version of "Bad Blood" on youtube is pitched.Only the music video with Kendrick Lamar remains on youtube. I doubt her management is allow both versions to be on her official channel. They want sales of the remix to go up.

I can tolerate a rapless version of the remix though

Agreed....I don't get why she needed Kendrick Lamar...she is doing great on her own....but there is still something about the contrast that works in weird way on the remix...even though I wish it was the original.

The remix is everything to me. I always clasificated BB as one of the worst songs on 1989, the production was meh, the verses were bad, and if it was such a diss song why did it feel so un-aggressive? The new Kendrick verses are hot, they upgrade the song, the production on the Chorus is hard, yeah it could be more, but it hits like a diss song should do. It feels aggressive, I can imagine Taylor angry with it, before I imagine Taylor like talking to an angel idk

The remix is >>>> for me. The original seems like quite bland and boring tbh. And it's too soft for my liking.
Also, without the remix, this wouldn't be played in rhythmic stations, so the remix does increase its airplay
