She looks like Victoria Justice and Lana Del Rey had a baby in the video tbh.

This samples one of my favorite Aretha Franklin songs, I love this and I wish it was longer

I felt like Over It and Love Story were pretty decent-sized hits, but they didn't do as well as I thought. Over it did decent but love story really didn't do anything

My pop station must have been the literal only one that was in love with it lol.

Over It was so overprocessed. You could barely tell it was her. So this is very refreshing.
On a side note, when she did that cover of the Beatles "Something" on Idol, that was really a wow moment for her, even tho her season was over.

I felt like Over It and Love Story were pretty decent-sized hits, but they didn't do as well as I thought. Over It was definitely the closest she's yet come to a "hit" (#21 chr, #29 h100). Hated that mess of a song with a passion back in the day though. But Love Story is still the best thing she's ever put out for me, yet sadly did absolutely nothing on the charts. Ironically I feel like that song may have had a chance in today's CHR scene.

I thought Over It was a top 10. For some reason I remember it being at 9 on the Hot 100. Guess I'm confusing it with something else.
Anywho, I like this. I hope she finally gets a big hit out of it.

The video is at 160k views right now. That's pretty good since there's not really mainstream interest for her music right now and her last semi-hit single was Over It 8 years ago. haha

It seems that a lot of people still want new music from her after all these years. They are waiting for her to slay our souls again.

I saw a YouTube comment that said it almost sounds like 80's Prince. I can hear that a bit. I'm hoping against all odds that she can pull out a decent showing from this song.

Even this does nothing at all, I'm very happy by the ammount of good press and great reception this is been getting. She deserves it!

I really hope this does something on the charts but I don't hold my breath. What label is she on now?

I still can't believe that old man beat her on Idol. You do know that they were both in their 20s when they competed against each other on Idol?

I remember Idol's cut off age used to be 29 or something like that, but still a travesty she lost. I wonder if her career trajectory would be different had she won. I used to not think that winning had an influence over their career, but the only artists that have had a significant impact on radio are two of the winners. A lot of others have had minor-moderate success here or there but let's face it...

I don't see much of how her career could be different if she had won. I mean, they would have pimped her out more probably but it's not like Taylor Hicks is doing anything substantial. I think the only other artist who has been consistently releasing music and doing OK on radio from that season is Kellie Pickler.

I think Taylor Hicks had a very long, very successful Vegas residency that just recently ended.

I'm 100% sure Kat winning Idol over Taylor would have made little to no difference in terms of her career trajectory.
Idol has always been more of a launching pad for exposure, and no doubt many artists have been able to find success because of that, and probably wouldn't be where they are without it.
Expecting every minor success to be a huge star is like saying that every actor who's is able to find minor success in Hollywood is a flop because he wasn't able to become the next Brad Pitt or George Clooney.
I don't think the Kellie Pickler example is valid, though, because she hasn't had mainstream radio/chart success since 2009 or so.
She is able to do her own thing, performs regularly on the Opry, and she seems extremely happy in her position.

Diane Martel is becoming my new favorite video director. I finally got around to this. Fun song, GREAT video. Overall: B+ but I can see it being an A-. Good summer song. Hope it does something.

I haven't heard this yet, but I'm rooting for Kate!!! If she reaches top 40, this could be a surprisingly good year for idol with at least 4 alumni reaching top 40 in the pop chart :o

so? Just because it was 8 years ago does not mean it doesn't exist anymore. If anything, Leona doesn't exist anymoreWell hopefully she'll have more of an existence in the US soon! This is a cute song, hope it does something as I like Katharine.

Watched the video Cute song and she showcases her good voice without overdoing it. In some instances she reminds me of Ariana, but with a more seasoned / mature voice The video is just ok tho, and I have to agree that only in half (or less) of her appearances she shows some charisma. In the others she's like an hologram or a pasted cartoon with no much to draw me in. On top of that, her main look doesn't do much for me. Her makeup and hairdo don't do her justice, and in some cases I'd rather not see her bony skinny arms It's not a disaster but I wish the video were better or had more replay value. I'll still share it on Facebook just because I root for her though.

Yea if she had won idol, she'd be pimped out more, but doesn't that also mean strict and heavy contracts, with no freedom? Coming in 2nd or less means you are free to record what you want, right?

Season 5 had the most exposure of any season ever. I think 11 of the top 12 put out albums or something like that, and I know Taylor, Daughtry, Kellie, Elliott, and Bucky's all went at least Gold. So winning was irrelevant, if she couldn't make it being on that season she was never going to make it. Although I wouldn't be surprised if her attitude bit her in the butt once she got into the actual industry. She acted like the most entitled spoiled brat ever on the show, and if she carried that attitude into the industry plenty of people would have not wanted to work with her.
