It might just be a thing among Janet & Michael fans, but I feel we all have a good understanding that Michael and Janet have signature, heavily layered[/i] background vocals, or harmonizing, that many have tried to emulate over the years. Atleast for me, the background vocals on their songs are what have made them some of my favorite. What are some of your favorite JACKSON background vocal moments? Feel free to post them here. I don't know if this belongs in the polling booth or this forum, but I would like to hear some of your favorite jackson background vocals. Some of mine that come to mind are: Janet Jackson - IF. I've posted the Brother in Rhythm SWING YO PANTS remix because towards the end, they isolated her bkg vocals that are laced behind the chorus, take a listen below: Michael Jackson - PYT (DEMO) -- not the best quality clip, but just press play and skip to 2:50, the isolated bkg vocals at the end are heavenly. www.dailymotion.com/video/x84n31_michael-jackson-p-y-t-demo_music&start=168Janet Jackson - RUNAWAY--I've posted the Junior remix because at the beginning, he isolated the back ground vocals that run behind the pre chorus, which I love. One of my favorite jackson bkg vocal moments. Michael Jackson - OFF THE WALL --the vocals he layered behind the chorus all his and....off the wall is one of my favorite michael jackson chorus' ever. Something dreams are made of. Michael Jackson - IN THE CLOSET - I love the background vocals when he sings "she wants to get it, all she wants to get it"....but my favorite part is when hes layered his vocals in the background to there's something about you baby, that makes me want to give it to youJanet Jackson - SPEAKER PHONE (INTERLUDE)/IGL Chorus - Probably my favorite Janet interlude simply because we can hear the bkg vocals to IGL so clearly. Enjoy : ) Janet Jackson - COME BACK TO ME--Loving the intro bkg vocals to COME BACK TO ME is my earliest memory of being a Janet fan. What an iconic intro.

The whole pre-chorus and chorus. I find myself singing that instead of the main vocals ad-libbing.

Let's not count out the most under appreciated Jackson here:
A stretch, but clearly Michael Jackson is doing some of the background vocals on this. I remember I used to assume Rebbie was doing those insane vocal gymnastics at towards the end of this lol, but really it's Martha Wash doing most of that and killing it at that.

The end of "Enjoy" with "just the backgrounds" is what solidifies that song as the best on 20 Y.O.
And practically everything on The Velvet Rope.

The "aaaaahhhhh" before the second chorus of Because Of Love is what popped into my head first when I read the title here.

I was going to add BOL for that as well as the "love hoo, love hoo, love hoo, all because of love, hoo, love hoo" that goes on in the background.

And practically everything on The Velvet Rope. AMEN!! 'My Need' has gorgeous backgrounds and harmonies. 'I Get Lonely' too, of course. The Velvet Rope is other-worldly for me, though.

They were both so skilled in background vocals, layering and harmonies. I have to say, I think Janet was better at it though. The way she heard and recorded such complex harmonies is something that's not really highlighted a lot, when it comes to her. I'm glad she takes producer credit on all of her albums (except "Discipline," I think?) because producing and arranging vocals is a really integral component of any good song. And, of course, she played the keys and sythns on a lot of her songs too.

I think that "Love Will Never Do" is amazing. Also, lots of what she did on 20 Y.O. are great, specially the 20 Pt. 2 Interlude and Take Care!

By the way, Janet has Executive Producer credit on Discipline .... she just didn't write any of the tracks.

I love all the vocals at the end of the album version of LOVE WILL NEVER DO (WITHOUT YOU), especially this part:

I've always loved the background vocals on "The Body That Loves You" & "Lonely". So pleasant.
But my absolute favorites are from "Anything" and "Empty". So edgy and ahead of it's time. IMO Jan's work on The Velvet Rope inspired the Brandy-esque layered vocals in R&B post-2000.

Janet is a master at harmonies and background vocals. I think her most intricate work remains "Come Back To Me". If you listen closely there's 4 or 5 vocal layers and dubs. Simply stunning.
