It is a travesty that ABMB didn't hit #1 and that Honey, My All, and Heartbreaker didn't peak higher. Even though Always Be My Baby did not peak at #1 on pop and the hot 100 airplay, it still was the most played song of 1996 since it lasted 40 weeks on the airplay chart and her second longest radio single behind We Belong Together which lasted 43 weeks on the airplay chart.

For the hell of it, the CHR peaks of all the #1s: Vision of Love - #1 Love Takes Time - #1 Someday - #1 I Don't Wanna Cry - #1 Emotions - #1 I'll Be There - #1 Dreamlover - #1 Hero - #1 Fantasy - #1 One sweet Day - #1 Always Be My Baby - #2 Honey - #10 My All - #18 Heartbreaker - #21 Thank God I Found You - #28 We Belong Together - #1 Don't Forget About Us - #3 Touch My Body - #7 Tracks That Hit #1 on CHR but not the Hot 100: Can't Let Go (#2 Hot 100) Make It Happen (#5 Hot 100) Shake It Off (#2 Hot 100) Honey, My All, Heartbreaker, and Thank God I Found You definitely got lucky to be Hot 100 #1's with those kind of airplay peaks. Hard to do that now, especially if we take out streaming. On the flipside though Can't Let Go, Make It Happen, Without You, and Shake It Off were huge at their respective time and were unlucky not to go #1. So I guess either way we're looking at 18.

"Heartbreaker, Honey and to a somewhat lesser extent My All" were all very popular at the time but come on "Thank God I Found You". That did not deserve a Top 5 let alone a Num.1 placement on the Hot 100. (this is coming from a MC fan (almost stan). LoL

With "Honey," you have to keep in mind that Urban airplay wasn't yet factored into the Hot 100 Airplay chart. It was a big Urban hit and probably would have had a higher peak than "Heartbreaker" if Urban airplay had been included.
Also "Heartbreaker" had one of the highest sales weeks of all time for a single when it was released.

Weren't her CD / Cassette singles deeply discounted from the first week (49cents) so she could get a leg up, something SONY did for MJ too. Other labels didn't do that at all - Madonna's 90s singles were all full price for example, always. Or were sales such a small percentage anyway?

I still wish SIO had been delayed a bit more to avoid the massiveness of WBT and get that much deserved H100 #1.

I remember thinking how incredible it was back when she came back to prominence and held onto No. 1 and No. 2. It was like living in a dream. As a massive lamb back then, seeing her stumble through the Glitter and Charmbracelet eras, it was such a proud moment to see her owning the charts again. I'll never forget that time. I thought we'd never get to see that again. It was really redeeming she got to give the finger to Sony, showing she could rule the charts without them.

These are not airplay peaks, they are just CHR. "Heartbreaker" for example was a top 10 airplay hit (#8) and those singles are all certified Platinum and went #1 in sales for 2 or 3 weeks. Also "Heartbreaker" had one of the highest sales weeks of all time for a single when it was released. Yeah the CD single sold over 275k copies in its first week, which was unheard of at the time. It was her highest sales week for a single until "Touch My Body" beat it by like 11k.

Those aren't consecutive though. The two singles inbetween that didn't reach #1 on the Hot 100 were still #1 on CHR

Those aren't consecutive though. The two singles inbetween that didn't reach #1 on the Hot 100 were still #1 on CHR After Hero was Without You, Anytime You Need A Friend and Endless Love. All great songs, all Top 10 pop hits but not #1s. I'm not sure about before that though. It's always been my understanding that every single from Vision Of Love to Hero hit #1, an incredible run anyway.
