Love it, but I can't see it being big on CHR. Maybe top 30.

It has a classic sound to it, nice vocals and plays to her format not pop. This is not meant to be a radio single and with it being a #1's album/GH's she is trying to take people back to the big voice and her sound more than trying strike gold on radio. Its not that kind of song! Not every aging diva is desperate for another hit!

I love it. Dunno about it being a hit, but it will make the fans happy.

This song is going to do absolutely nothing on pop radio. it's not bad but it is not a hit at all. The "eeeeeee" sounds she tries to establish as a vocal hook isn't working for me. Decent song overall but "Thirsty," "You Don't Know What to Do," and "Beautiful," had more hit potential.

I like the intro, the choruses, bridge and outro. The first 2 verses I think hold it back from being a staple for me, but this is actually not bad.

I'm about to listen to it but so far the overall reaction in this thread is a bit disappointing..

The intro/chorus/bridge/outro are good, but the verses are hard to understand- no one's going to be able to sing along to them, and that could hurt the song. Overall, though, I like.

Well well... so yeah, I def don't see it do much on pop however it's a very good song!! Too bad the chorus is quite lacking. BUT the verses and hooks are FIRE!!! Bridge was pretty catchy as well!!
And yeah she is serving VOCALS!!!

That lyric video is I love all the animation and effects. I love her vocals on the song and the lyrics, however, I am just not a big fan of this upon my first couple of listens. The transition from the verses to the choruses and back just don't feel that smooth. I like the sassiness and playfulness of the song though. I wonder which rapper(s) are going to be added to the R&B/Hip Hop remix that will be coming out soon.

It's a decent song. Not a hit though. Pretty much my opinion too.

I like this but I agree that it's not a hit. There are certain aspects of the production that date it slightly (not in a throwback way) that could have simply been modified to sound more like a hit.

This sounds like it could be an Ariana Grande song production-wise. I love this.

This sounds like it could be an Ariana Grande song production-wise. I love this. Which traces back to Mariah anyway so... In terms of comparing to other artists, some aspects of this remind me of Mary J. Blige's recent work as well as The Weeknd's "Earned It."

I'm not sure why anyone realistically expected a hit? Or is it just me? I just wanted it to feel like 'classic' Mariah (in any one of umpteen variations that could mean), and Infinity gave me urban-classic Mariah. Like I said in the album thread, I get a combination of TEOM and Breakdown from this, albeit more in the TEOM direction.
But as for hit potential, I don't know why anyone thought that was likely. You can't go on and on about how you want 'classic' Mariah and then when you actually get it, be disappointed because it doesn't sound like it could be a hit. Of course it wouldn't - none of Mariah's signature sounds are 'in' anymore, and surely no one was expecting her to hop on one of the more current trends; if she did we'd likely be calling her desperate for it. And she can't really sell the 80s/90s 'retro' thing - Mariah WAS the '90s, complete with her big 80s power ballad covers, so it would just sound like she is doing what she has already done or (if not revisiting her own sound) paying homage to one of her peers. With that said, part of it is that for some reason when Mariah dips back into her own nostalgic well she keeps touching base with 2005-2008 Mariah. She has yet to bypass the past decade and go straight for the 90s and nothing else. I love it, regardless, but it almost never feels as fully throwback as it could.
And then there's just the fact that radio is not checking for her and probably wouldn't even hold on to her single long enough to see what the audience feedback is. There's no point in a radio deal if it just means she is going to peak that week and then fade into oblivion within three months. Plus the way the charts are calculated now, she can't play the game like she and Columbia used to back in the day. She was already at a disadvantage with digital sales playing a part, now that streaming is such an important component there's virtually no way for her to pull it off unless she strikes when the competition is really, really weak and/or somehow strikes gold with a real viral moment.
tl;dr I am glad she is at least throwing it out there for pop and urban to pick it up but I don't actually expect anything of it. The song is perfection and I think will help sell #1 to Infinity and the Vegas show, which frankly should be her only two goals right now. This should be part of a more longterm goal to win back all the fans who skipped out on her during the MIAM era and solidify that legacy sales base because it makes no sense for someone of her caliber and consistent output to have an uncertified album, hit single or no hit single.
One final thing, I am curious if the note at the end of Infinity is a true whistle note or if it's head voice...it sounds like it could be the latter, but I'm not sure.

It's the #3 trending topic worldwide on Twitter.
I love love love the song. It's catchy and sassy yet empowering. The ending is very heartfelt, IMO.

All of her mid tempos from the last 12 years sound the same. She really needs new producers. This JD/b cox sound is so played.

I don't think anyone expected a hit, but given that is a point of discussion on this subforum, it's bound to come up. That, and I'm sure people wouldn't exactly mind her having one even if they aren't neccissarily expecting it.

This is awesome! *purchased*
I do actually hear hit potential in this. Depends on if they go all out for it, but the lyric video out so soon is a great sign. Regardless, what a perfect addition to her catalogue.
