I notice that the new nostalgia forum is separated into the '60's, 70's, 80's, 90's, 00's and 10's. What if someone wants to talk about records from the '50's, '40's, or earlier?

I just started working on reorganization - I'll add forums for the older decades as I find songs belonging to them. (In the meantime, if you've started threads, please see here for how you can help make the transition go more quickly!)

That's a lot of work, Kurt.
Thanks so much.
Luckily for you, I labeled my numerous threads with the year the song charted.

Anyone can label a thread.
I'm doing the 80s and the 90s.
I'm up to page 20.
There are 2 Celine Dion "Misled" threads.

Anyone can label a thread. It's nice that everyone who wants to help can do it. It could be all done by the end of the week.

Guys! Wait with moving album threads. Tonight Kurt will create sub-forums labelled albums for every decade.

Anyone can label a thread. Yaaaaaaaaaay thank goodness. If you want to link duplicates in here (I'd normally suggest reporting, but that'd clog up the queue), I'll merge them. Recording a podcast tonight so I won't get to much of it until tomorrow, but thanks for those who have been helping!

Why are people labeling some songs 80s and 90s like Keep It Together?
Yes, the song came out in 1989 on the LAP album, but it charted in 1990 so I think it should be labeled 90s.

I compiled some of them a while ago but I was told it was not possible to merge them because they are too old for that. I wonder if the labeling/moving changes that and you guys can merge all those multiple Janet threads? Thanks for these! Guessing that was a limitation of the previous version of our forum software, but yes, we can merge old threads. ETA: areyoureadytojump Guessing those are the ones that bridge multiple decades between release and success - from the results of our poll, those will be based upon initial release date.

Yeah, that does make sense.
What about all those closed topics? I would just delete them.
What about the chart threads? Keep them in the appropriate decade forum?

My initial thought was that there are probably (though I could totally be wrong, lol - there were 199 pages of threads, after all!) few enough chart/general discussion threads that they could stay in the main Nostalgia forum, but I'm open to reconsideration there - it's not something we thought about in the earlier public discussion and poll.

If it's specific enough to where we can clearly classify it by decade (such as with this Pop 100 chart thread), we can probably move it accordingly - but otherwise, if it's vague/unspecific or it straddles multiple decades, then yeah I'd agree that those can stay put.

@ Kurt Once your settled and can spare a minute. Would you please move both "Glenn Miller" and "Abba: ABBA" from singles 1940s/1970s to their respective album sub-forums. Thanks, Cheers,

There are a lot of duplicate threads.
One frequent poster always made new threads without doing a search. Ugh

I notice that this process of moving threads into their decades has stalled. No action has been taken in 2 weeks (keeps saying 151 pages to go). Also, and more important to me, I have started about 40 threads from the 1920's to the 1980's, mostly in the '50's and '60's, and only one has gotten a reply ("mah na mah na"). What's wrong here? Does nobody like my music, or do most members not even know that the nostalgia forum exists? The forum does seem to be very inactive lately. I know that almost nobody here is old enough to remember that music, but they can still listen to it and make a comment. All of it is different from today's music, but is that the only kind of music you like. If you don't like it, it's ok to say so, but please let me know what you think of it. I think it's great music, but that's just my opinion. What's yours? Is any of it familiar to you?

I noticed that too, but there also haven't been that many threads tagged with the correct decade so they can be moved. Perhaps the staff is busier with other real life stuff as are some of the members so that hasn't been happening. The topics pertaining to music prior to a certain time serve a purpose. When one remembers a song or hears it again or just comes across the topic, they'll post in it if they want. It's not going to waste because it's not being posted in as soon as it's there. 10 year old threads still get posted in from time to time.

I feel like the creation of sub-forums actually had an adverse effect on the activity in the Nostalgia forums.

Very few threads were tagged the last time I checked, ProBoards hadn't yet indexed the threads that were tagged, and I have real-life responsibilities as well (staff is not paid), hence my slowed activity on moving them.

It just bothers me that no one has replied to about 40 new threads that I have started in the nostalgia forum over the past 2 weeks. They have been viewed, but I think those views were mainly from "guests" who are not members, so they cannot reply. Maybe the members here are too young to remember the 1960's and 1950's, so that music doesn't mean anything to them. The guests are probably older, but can't reply. If you are an older guest here, why not join? It doesn't cost anything. This nostalgia forum is for you. It has music from the 1960's, and earlier, in it. You could be posting your songs here too.

We appreciate your time and effort that was put into the creation of the threads in those sections, however, there is no guarantee that there will be tons of replies immediately, and the board's staff cannot do anything about that either. I have posted threads for songs that didn't get a reply until months or years later. I did my part and then when the time comes, if it does, others will too.

Yeah I was just thinking about this a few days ago that the activity has gone wayyyy down. While it's discouraging to create new threads now I do think participation will pick back up. The nostalgia forum is one of my favs because it introduces me to songs I haven't heard and makes me go down memory lane. I'll respond/create new threads this weekend while I'm at work.

Here's a problem with the nostalgia forum I noted: The 2 year rule. There are times where I've heard a song whose chart run ended at least 6 months ago or that's at least 6 months old, but no more than 2 years old, several times in a short period of time or for the first time in a long time. And it's a shame I can't make a thread in nostalgia because of the rule. All I can do is post the song I had in mind in WAYLT? or in the RT Thread.
