This was when they really started showing promise. It's not even close to their best album, but the hits are phenomenal: Mamma Mia, SOS, and I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do are all A+ pop songs. There are also some great album tracks: Bang-A-Boomerang and I've Been Waiting For You are some of my favorites.
I went a long time without knowing So Long was actually the lead single and it bombed. It's a cute song, but far from the best on the album.

It's a cute song, but far from the best on the album. I listened to the whole set yesterday and I was very impressed by "Man In The Middle" which does not sound anything you'd suspect from Abba. All in all, the tunes have aged well and S.O.S. is cheesy and poignant at the same time and a classic in its own right. The other tracks are good but there is not really a red line and genres, instrumentation, production, influences are all wildly shuffled, If I can listen to this today and still enjoy it, then I guess it must have been an outstanding release when originally published. More to come from the Celebrating 20 / 30 / 40 / 50 / 60 / 70 Years ago project! Thanks for commenting & stopping by :)
