Alabama Shakes will debut at #1 next week on both the HITS Album Sales and SPS charts. Here are this week’s key debuts:
Alabama Shakes (ATO) 85-90k Albums, 90-95k SPS Yelawolf (Shady/Interscope) 40-45k, 45-50k Maná (Warner Music Latina) 27-30k, 28-32k KB (Reach) 19-22k, 20-23k Passion Pit (Columbia) 19-22k, 21-24k
In other music news, the industry bible has e-blasted that Calvin Harris is indeed following Taylor Swift on Instagram. Also, our cousin posted a video of a baby porcupine. Adorbs!

Billboard.biz and the magazine which are aimed at the music industry. Billboard.com and the free charts which are aimed at the Twitter crowd. I've rolled my eyes plenty of times at articles that Billboard.com has posted. Since Bill Weir left, the website has gone downhill.

www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/6539029/alabama-shakes-aiming-for-first-no-1-album-billboard-200Alabama Shakes Aiming for First No. 1 Album on Billboard 200 ChartBy Keith Caulfield | April 22, 2015 7:47 PM EDT Rock band Alabama Shakes is on course for its first No. 1 album on the Billboard 200. Industry forecasters suggest the group’s new set, Sound & Color, may move over 90,000 equivalent album units in the week ending April 26. The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week based on multi-metric consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The new Billboard 200’s top 10 will be revealed on Wednesday, April 29. Sound & Color is the group’s second full-length album, and follows 2012’s Boys & Girls, which has sold 739,000 and peaked at No. 6. Its single “Hold On” reached No. 1 on the Adult Alternative Songs chart, and garnered a Grammy Award nomination for best rock performance. If Sound & Color hits No. 1, it will give its label, ATO Records, its second No. 1. ATO previously led the list in January of 2008 with Radiohead’s In Rainbows (on TBD Records/ATO). Other albums heading for high debuts next week include Yelawolf’s Love Story (which might move around 45,000 or so units) and Maná’s Cama Incendiada (30,000).

From a pure album sales standpoint, that's looking like a very good hold for Reba's second week (with a less than 60% drop). But she'll fall behind quite few on the SPS chart.

Album sales are awful. Ugh.
Wow at Reba at #3.
Wow at Little Big Town. Girl Crush and The ACMs are helping them.
Zac Brown Band is out Tuesday. How big?
150k? 200k? 250k?

Word-of-mouth and continued promo is likely the driving force behind Reba's relatively minor drop. Very good numbers for her.

www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/6546014/yelawolf-top-10-debut-love-storyYelawolf Aiming for Top 10 Debut on Billboard 200 ChartBy Keith Caulfield | April 24, 2015 8:20 PM EDT Yelawolf is aiming to debut in the top 10 of next week’s Billboard 200 albums chart with his second studio album, Love Story. Industry sources forecast the set -- which was released April 21 -- to start with perhaps 50,000 units earned in the week ending April 26. It would mark Yelawolf’s highest-charting release and first top 10. The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week based on multi-metric consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The chart’s new top 10 will be revealed on Wednesday, April 29. As for the No. 1 slot on the new chart, it appears that Alabama Shakes will debut atop the list with its Sound & Color. The effort, which would be the band’s first chart-topper, could move over 90,000 units. The new top 10 will also likely house a number of albums basking in the glow of the Academy of Country Music Awards. The 50th annual event, which was broadcast on April 19, could push Sam Hunt’s Montevallo and Little Big Town’s Pain Killer into the top 10.

HUGE drop for Shawn Mendes. I think that's expected without a hit on the radio. His label better move and make it happen On the other hand it's becoming clear the declining of Thinking out loud on X sales

Sam Hunt is doing ridiculously well, even selling nicely And he will do even better if Take your time finally crosses to pop It's curious but country album sales are far from spectacular lately, even for some big names

Impressed with Alabama Shakes and Yelawolf, expected more for Passion Pit. Not bad for Reba's hold too.

I thought Passion Pit would do more. Sadly "Lifted Up" didn't do so well, so that might have to do with it.

Zac Brown Band is out Tuesday. How big? 150k? 200k? 250k? I think it'll easily debut somewhere in the 200-250k range. It could be more, too--their last album debuted with 234,000 and its lead single wasn't nearly as big as "Homegrown" just was (3 weeks at #1 on Billboard Country Airplay), and they also have a big hit on the rock charts right now ("Heavy Is The Head" w/ Chris Cornell), while "Loving You Easy" got the Clear Channel debut on Thursday at country radio which should lead to a top 30 debut on tomorrow's Country Airplay chart. "Homegrown" is still in the top 10 too. So they're kind of everywhere right now. However, aside from a couple of songs, the album as a whole doesn't even remotely resemble country music...it's a huge, huge departure in sound for them so that could have an effect on the sales.
