New Columbia signing Coleman Hell will impact Alternative on May 19 with "2 Heads," according to R&R.

Caught this on the radio the other day and well, it's basically "Wake Me Up" minus all the obvious EDM synth-flourishes and with the folktronica banjos turned up, isn't it?

well, it's not as bad as Rednex's version of "Cotton-Eye Joe" ... but that's the worst song to ever chart in any format, so not exactly a high bar

From Toronto, so that explains why 89x has been spinning this for a month or two. Their Can Con picks don't typically pan out for their neighbors to the south, but their picks also typically tend to sound like more of a reminder that the year 2001 happened, instead of sounding like actual Alternative music (case in point: They're spinning Theory of a Deadman's non-hit single, but not spinning Metric's up & coming hit single). So, the sight of this in the actual top 50 was a shock to me.

It hard to pinpoint this style. It has guitars, synths(a plus), banjo? pianos. One would say it sounds like it's all over the place, but I'm not getting hate vibes and the vocals seem pretty decent. I'd rather this chart on Alt than "Sedona" that's for sure.

Seriously think we are looking at a Top 5 at this format for this song, and a potential Top 10 crossover at Hot AC and Pop. It's going to be huge. Hilariously enough, I wouldn't be surprised if I heard this on the country format these days (it won't).

Yeah, I definitely think this one has a lot of crossover potential. I see it performing better on Pop Radio than Alt. Maybe similar to "Wake Me Up". Not a bad song at all. I like it a lot, actually.

better than Avicii ... but then I hate Avicii ... I'm not big on banjo but it doesn't sound forced like in Wake Me Up, this is more natural, authentic sounding
it might grow on me, but as for now I'll pass

Debuts at #37 on Billboard.
That would make this the first debut top 40 entry from a Canadian act since Death from Above 1979, though surprisingly none of Pulse's resident Canadians have posted on this thread thus far, lol.

This seems like it would be a huge hit on Pop. Alt, I can't see why stations would be playing it here to begin with, but it has all the ingredients to be a Top 10 on CHR.

This sounds like 5 different songs jammed into one, and that isn't a good thing. I have no idea what the hell is going on with this.

What's going on is a hybrid of sounds put together to make a song that is getting ready to screw things up even worse on the Alt charts. After seeing this on youtube a few times, I'm glad I didn't download this. It has some Avicci vibes which I detest.

Honestly, I had no idea this guy was Canadian. I thought the Canadian airplay was just from Canadian alt stations being hit-predictors a la Budapest and Ex's and Oh's again. I hadn't bothered posting in the thread until now because I was indifferent to the song, but it's started to grow on me. Happy to see some Canadian action in the top 40 with Coleman Hell and Metric at the same time.

This song shouldn't have even charted on alt. It's not a bad song, but it just sounds awkward among the other songs on the chart, and that includes the AAA crossovers.

You're not saying I have the same music taste as Dr. Indie?! ;) For the record, I don't hate this (Renegades), but it's not something I want to hear all the time once it's in the Top 10. Everyone has at least something in common with Dr. Indie Anyways, we agree on a lot of things, I'm sure

Considering this guy sounds a lot Sting, banjo-driven, drum beats...how is this NOT alternative?
While I'm at it, anything from AAA SHOULD be on alternative, are you kidding me? Most AAA songs sounds like songs that would have charted in the past 25 years on the alternative chart.
Now, if they want everyone to be happy, I think it would be very simple to:
Have all AAA stations and AAA-leaning Alternative become the Alternative Format; while have all Active Rock stations and Active Rock-leaning Alternative stations become the Active Rock format, that would make a lot of sense.

Yeahhhhhhh this song is amazing. I love the 70s folky vibe to it, check off the download here for sure. Alternative needs to eat this up.

I like his vocals and almost everything about this. My only issue is the banjo in the post-chorus. It sounds sooo out of place and unnecessarily turned up.

Will a Canadian act ever go top 10 again?
Last one was Three Days Grace - The Good Life way back in February 2010.
