And I still don't get the hype over him at all. I do kinda sorta like CFMF though.

He played a clip of a new song in London last week, and it sounds good. All I'm hearing is smash after smash with him.

^ That clip captures me the same way House of Balloons did on first listen. It's like an intersection of his moody, ambient origins and his big budget poppiness and it just works. Hottest thing I've heard from this project by far.

Looking forward to hearing new music from them. I remember listening to their mixtapes when not many people knew about them and now they're one of the most highly anticipated acts for releasing new music! Awesome! Comment of the year.

Hopefully, I will come to appreciate Can't Feel My Face in the context of the album. @ Lana's appearance. Very excited.

The tracklist was correct. It just didn't have the features.

It's so surreal to think about this time period now. He did all he could to ensure no one knew who tf he was even though every R&B blog on the internet was losing their shit over the tracks. To go from that to wanting to become a paparazzi-followed superstar is such a fascinating transformation.

The Weeknd & Lana is a natural musical union. As different and distinctive (well, not CFMF) as they each sound, there's a lot of thematic and tonal similarities in their music for most of their respective catalogs. Even before Abel started crossing over and Elizabeth's major label debut parked on the BB 200 into eternity, they were already among the bigger/biggest, "alt" acts to emerge this decade.

The Weeknd & Lana is a natural musical union. Imagine the blogasm it would have caused in 2011.

The Weeknd & Lana is a natural musical union. Imagine the blogasm it would have caused in 2011. I'm actually glad that that didn't happen. Both of them have improved their vocal control by a lot since then. Whatever they could have done then, they could probably do it better today.

Ehh, I could do without Ed on this.
And tbh I was hoping for at least one of two collaborations from the R&B/hip hop world.

To go from that to wanting to become a paparazzi-followed superstar is such a fascinating transformation. It's interesting and to me now labels are taking the approach atleast with a few artist to hide identities. I don't know if it's to create mystique and keep it about the music, or if it's truly an artist idea....we have Sia who even having put out full albums didn't want to really be seen, Bryson tiller for awhile kept his identity hidden, Ester deans original promo pics were just her name in pink letters, who is fancy hasn't released anything since he was revealed and he turned out flamboyant so maybe that was s label decision, boxd inn seems to have backing from two superstars yet nobody even really knows his music is on YouTube but yet he's had a showcase....with the Weeeknd, he made the decision to keep the identity unknown and it'll be interesting to see how he handles everything now and how his career trajectory ends up as well as how labels introduce new artist

This guy's first week sales for his album are going to be through the roof. I don't know what any other predictions have been but I'm going with 750k.

I don't think he'll be anywhere close to that, I'd say 250-300. But he'll have massive TEA/SEA the whole run

HITS had predicted a 300k+ opening.

I mean...the dude has a LOT of goodwill right now but that said, he might be viewed as more of a singles artist at this point, which could affect his sales. Fingers are crossed for a high debut and at least one million sold at the end of the day.
Edit: This album seems to be under lock and key. I haven't seen any clips floating and it's out next Friday. That's pretty awesome. I'm sure the label knows they are sitting on gold mine singles.

Fingers are crossed for a high debut and at least one million sold at the end of the day. I don't know where "singles artist" is coming from. HITS has already published an article saying that pre-orders are hinting at the healthiest opening for an R&B act in a long time (around 300k as said above). His team was careful to release two songs that appeal to very different sides of his fan base- the pop fans ("Can't Feel My Face") & the original mixtape/blogger fans ("The Hills") and both are garnering tons of exposure. The promotional rollout has been impeccable so far, and big things are planned leading up to the album release. Based on the two album tracks I've actually heard so far ("The Night" and a long clip of "Prisoner") this album will have legs too. He'll definitely sell. I just hope this opens doors for R&B in general.

The live clips of "Tell Your Friends" sound soooo good. I'm like-not-love "Can't Feel My Face" and "The Hills" but I CAN'T WAIT for this album to drop. I can already tell those will be my two least favorite tracks on the album (and f**king "Often" which I already pretend isn't there).
