Yes, for followers of sports teams there is some emotion involved. For many the professional team they follow is "their team". The emotions go up and down with how well they perform but then when its over because they lost the championship game or whatever, life returns to normal fairly quickly.
For charts, this is about how well other people like your song, rather than anything you can do about it. Other people did not like your song as much as you did for a record amount of time. No major records were set. Nothing you can do.
Crying about missing the record a month later suggests that those who are doing this have let it affect them in their personal life. In my opinion, that can't be healthy. Time to find a new obsession, I think.

is "wah uptown funk fell from #1 and didn't break a record that literally nobody cares about" the new "wah that boring happy song might be beaten by dark horse for the #1 song of the year"?
ugh.

The only legit argument for one not wanting a song staying at #1 (whether it's for 2 or 18 weeks) is if you truly *don't like it. What about liking several songs and wanting them all to get to #1? I don't usually only like 1 song out to where I want it to stay #1 for awhile.

Imagine if people started waving flags and wearing jerseys while rooting for their favourite songs and artists to win every Wednesday on the Hot 100 as they flex their muscles and drink beer waiting for the chart to come out.

Not really. That's 0.5043. 0.5043 is not quite a bit more than 0.5. Also, it just occured to me that any talk about "Uptown Funk" breaking the record for longest stay at number one would be totally pointless had the currently formula with YouTube streaming has been added in when this or this had been popular. Especially the latter. (Also, yikes at the first one being a long running number one with the current formula despite a peak of #58 originally.) Also, if the formula had been in effect, there's a chance Katy Perry had never gotten to number one with "E.T." given the first song may have blocked it. ("S&M" definitely would have been blocked.)

I'm not so sure it would've gotten even 1 week at #1...it would get at most 3 weeks at #1, assuming almost all of those views were within that three week period, which is also a stretch.

It was probably closer to 200 or 300 million iirc. Then they moved it to a different channel. And it had pretty mediocre sales but Chinese food debuted at 24 with non existent sales. And we might be dead tomorrow debuted at 9 just because of that viral video so Friday would've easily been at 1. Gangnam style would've had at least 12 weeks. The 8 weeks it was at 2, the 2 weeks leading up to it and a couple more because of it's dominance in streaming.

I bet Bad Romance would've toppled Empire State Of Mind with YouTube. easily. I'm pretty sure Teenage Dream would've had 6 number ones if YouTube was included. And Katy would be at 11 (The One That Got Away and Wide Awake) number ones if YouTube was included pre teenage dream.

And looool @ the thought of "Wide Awake" outdoing "Call Me Maybe" that summer." Eh, maybe the week the video came out or even later. "Wide Awake" actually did really well in streaming, and it peaked in airplay after "Call Me Maybe" did. "Wide Awake" peaked at number two behind "Call Me Maybe" on CMM's second to last week at number one. I have a feeling Katy's team would have done something to ensure its number one status. Not saying it wouldn't have still been blocked, but it definitely seems plausible. The hard one, though, probably would've been "Teenage Dream" having to fight off "Love the Way You Lie," "Just the Way You Are," and "I Like It." I think "E.T." would have been okay to snag it a few weeks after the "Friday" fiasco. "Last Friday Night" would still be up against "Rolling in the Deep" and "Party Rock Anthem," but likely would have gotten it the week the video came out rather than later due to its massive streaming numbers. "California Gurls" and "Firework" definitely still would have been number one. Maybe "Airplanes" would have knocked a week out of "Cali" or "Grenade" a week out of "Firework," but both would have definitely still gotten there. "The One That Got Away" still would not have gotten it thanks to "We Found Love" and especially "Sexy and I Know It." "Part of Me" would have been interesting to track. The week it debuted at number one it wasn't up against anything that would have had massive YouTube streaming: "Set Fire to the Rain" (because it never got an official video), "I Will Always Love You," "Stronger," etc. It might have still gotten it pretty easily. Really interesting stuff to think about. Edit: I tihkn I fixed the quotying error. Edit 2: Holy fucking typos! Screw it, I'm leaving it like that.

I think Teenage Dream would've definitely got blocked by Love The Way You Lie, that song was absolutely huge on both Youtube and Spotify (at the time). Eminem and Rihanna in general to really well on both. I think Not Afraid might have spent longer at #1 too. I think California Gurls, Firework and E.T. would've still got #1 no matter what, not sure about Last Friday Night, could've got blocked by Party Rock Anthem (PRA would've almost definitely blocked Give Me Everything imo).
I think Rack City would have done a lot better, considering it had THREE official music videos (which would've all got most of their views from the US), plus lots of viral videos and remixes. Top 3 for certain imo. Same with Look At Me Now (the video to it got enormous views and that had loads of parodies too, everybody from Karmin to Justin Bieber were doing them lol Even FOX News had a segment on the song).
