The fourth US single from In The Lonely Hour impacts pop on May 19, according to FMQB.

Oh damn! Should've done this 6 months ago though.
I wanna say that his popularity should see this into the top 10, but it could stop just outside as well (top 15).

This should have been third, but I digress.

This could have smashed as a third single, but "Lay Me Down" kind of killed any perceived momentum for this era now imo. I think it'll make a dent but not perform nearly as well as it would have earlier.

I assume this will be what he performs at the BBMAs, so it should help him get a high Hot 100 ranking. But yeah, LMD may have hurt him a bit on radio, but at least it went top 10 on Hot 100. Hoping he can get a fourth consecutive top 10 there! (Fifth if you include "Latch", I believe?)

I'm already burnt on this song, but I'm glad this is next. It should have been third, but I'll take it one way or another.

I'm shocked they're still sending singles from this album to radio. This needs to be the last single. He needs a fresh new project.

I mean I don't give a shit about Sam Smith so I don't care when they kill the era personally, but why on Earth would they stop promotion for an album that's still selling in the top 10 of the Billboard 200? That would make absolutely zero business sense.

Finally. Dumb move not to release this earlier. [37]

I agree with everyone that this (or Restart, or anything that wasn't a sleeper) being the third single so it's good that it's coming out now, so Lay Me Down can become just a footnote, even if this song will only support the Adele comparisons that I think Sam has been trying to dispel for a while. I can see it doing decently well enough.

Glad they're moving on from Lay Me Down so quick, that's a fantastic song but it was never going to be a radio hit. This can save the album, I think. This, then Restart, then he can start album 2.

I really hope that restart can have its time to shine. It would be the perfect end to the era. But they'd need to make a new video cuz that tour video is the pits.

Agree with most of the sentiments above. This is fine to be out now but if "Restart" gets the next release I'll truly jump for joy.

See this making top 20, but not top 10.

If they release another single after this it needs to be "Money on my Mind"

Thank god, for a while i fear that they would release Leave your lover (which is a great song but it would be too much for radio).
Lay me down killed a bit the momentum on radio, but it was a solid hit anyway, top 10 on the hot 100 and top 20 on pop (almost top 10 in hot ac, urban ac and ac). It was a poor choice as third single (and i love the song), but at least they are moving at the right time, and the billboard awards will give this a platform And the album sales weren't affected.
Like i can is safest than Money on my mind, and with the right promo it should be a good hit for him (and even if it fails on being a big hit, at least will show that he is something more than ballads).

That would make absolutely zero business sense. I agree, there's no reason to kill a very successful era (you never know if the next era is going to do well or not, just ask Duffy). Adele shortened her era but she was busy with her life, he has no reason to cut this short, he can start to write new material and be prepared for the new album. Delay a second album when you have no presence on radio is never a good idea, so make this era longer is good, it gives him time, and In the lonely hour could sell 2.5 million albums by the end of the era And by the way, it's true that it seems he is a prominent artist forever, but the truth is In the lonely hour didn't even have a year in the market. One part of his audience is adult, and they don't move that fast as teens

I haven't followed him too closely, but I think they should re-release Money on My Mind. Love that song and I don't believe it was released here yet.

"Lay Me Down" has got to be the weirdest, most out-of-touch single choice since Michelle Branch's "Til I Get Over You." I'm glad they're going with something that makes sense.

Very shameless Rolling In The Deep rip-off (literally the same instrumental)

Now they have finally released the best songs off the record (minus I've Told You Now but I never saw that as a single).

Good choice, but like many others have said, not releasing it third was a huge mistake.

Agree with everyone, this should have been 3rd single and Lay Me Down has done him some damage. This will now be a modest hit when it should have been a smash!

Yes. Although I loved Lay me Down this is so good. He's 4 for 4 with me. My favourite male artist right now. Smash please.
