It's not an official single, but I think it has enough airplay to warrant a thread.

It's not an official single, but I think it has enough airplay to warrant a thread. I was thinking about this the other day myself, and I've decided to leave the thread. But, just so everybody is clear, this is not an actual single (hence the thread title). It's just a song that radio is playing because they want to. Luke's label did not release this as a single, nor are they promoting it as one. It's just radio's way of giving their listeners some new Luke material while he is in between albums. But since it's top 25 on Billboard, I think it's okay to have a discussion thread for this song. Definitely a rare situation.

Yeah, I've head this on the radio and was confused. lol. Anyway, I don't like the verses but the chorus is really good. Leave it to Luke to be doing so well with a song that isn't even an official single lol.

I kind of wish this was a single, because its pretty solid IMO. He's had quite a few gems on the Spring Break albums (Buzzkill, Night One, Like We Ain't Ever, Suntan City) and I always wanted to see them promote at least one single from them. This song really sounds like a continuation of Roller Coaster, and that's my favorite Luke song ever.

Much prefer Spring Breakdown, but this is above average Luke Bryan for sure.

Here is the audio. Already posted in the non-singles thread:

It's crazy to me that this non-single is at #26. There are SO many actual singles fighting for airplay right now and this song is gobbling a lot of AI. But I guess if radio wasn't playing this, it would be some other LB song. It is so frustrating to see this chart and then look down to the 40's-60's and see these other artists clawing for airplay. Finally an artist has a break between singles and then this.

I have heard stations this a couple of times an hour. I would expect them to push this if it gets inside the top 20! Why wouldnt you?

I have heard stations this a couple of times an hour. I would expect them to push this if it gets inside the top 20! Why wouldnt you? Because it's not on an actual album (just the spring break project), and soon they are going to be ready to release the lead single to Luke's next album, an album that'll probably debut with well over 500,000 sold in its 1st week. If they start promoting "Games" as an actual single, that'll eat up 2-3 months. And it's not like every station is playing this (only about half of the stations on the Mediabase panel are), so in a way there's still a bit of a gap between single releases and between albums for Luke (which only builds up the anticipation for the next actual single).

Is it just me, or do some parts of this sound like "It Goes Like This"? Especially the intro.
This seems like a slight move toward maturity for Luke. About time he stopped acting like he was still 20. (Good God, is he really almost 40?!)

Wow. Luke Bryan is so popular that country radio cannot wait for his new album era.
What was the last song to reach top 20 or even higher at the airplay chart without being properly released as a single?

I'm guessing "Life Is A Highway" by Rascal Flatts or "Life In A Northern Town" by Sugarland, LBT, & Jake Owen.

"Games" is up to #24 on the current Billboard chart, and I think it's likely to finish this week at #21 after recurrents (ZBB, Sam, and Lee) are removed on Monday.

This is incredible! Enters the Country Streaming Song Chart at #22 ahead of all competition on airplay high rotation; and even Carrie Underwood's "Little Toy Guns" (#25). In the Top 25 Luke Bryan has 4 entries as a lead and one as featured artist with Florida Georgia Line!

I'm pretty sure "Life Is a Highway" would've been a #1 hit if it had been officially released. They were at their prime then so there's no way that it would've just scraped the Top 20 if it had been a legit single.

Edit: Guess it wasn't. Interesting... "Life Is A Highway" first got airplay because of the release of the Cars movie. It debuted in the top 50 of R&R in the summer of 2006, while "Me And My Gang" was in the top 10. Then after "Me And My Gang" lost its bullet, the song really started to pick up steam into the top 40 and eventually top 30. Lyric Street then sent "My Wish" to radio in late August of 2006, and I assumed they hoped that would detract stations from playing "Life Is A Highway"...but it really didn't. "Life Is A Highway" hung on long enough for a top 20 peak (#17 on MB and #18 on Billboard). What's impressive is that "My Wish" was largely unaffected as it still spent two weeks at #1 on MB late in the year.
