Even though this doesn't cover any new ground, I actually quite like this. It easily sounds like a big summertime anthem with the infectious chorus and laid back style. Glad that they are at least sending this to radio.

This is selling really well. It is another song with not much depth, but I am really enjoying the production on this.
I can see it now...big SiriusXM hit and gets him signed on a decent sized label.

His 4x4 - EP was sent to iTunes last night. Some pretty good stuff, he has another Earl Dibbles Jr. appearance which is always amusingly welcome.

@grangersmith: My new single "Backroad Song" will be featured in tonight's episode of the TV show nashville_ABC. Y'all check it out! Nice to see he'll be getting some mainstream spotlight with this song. As others have mentioned, it's far from his best, but it's super radio friendly and I think he is the most ready-made star "Texas Country" has for mainstream country radio.

I know he's a big star in Texas country but this song makes me feel like he's ready to break out.

I know we still got some time before the next On The Verge selection, but I think this would make a great choice. It had very strong sales it's first week out and he seems to have a little buzz and an already built fan base ready to support the song. Might be something to keep an eye on.

I doubt they'd even consider a song like this, unless Granger gets picked up by a bigger label. I know he's with Thirty Tigers and that they've just added a radio promo team, but iHeartMedia is likely to only go with labels that have built up "relationships" with them. The way I see it, iHeartMedia will probably only choose artists from UMG, Sony, Warner, Big Machine, BBR Music Group, and maybe Curb (if they ever have a new artist with a decent amount of momentum). Black River, Blaster, and Show Dog are outside possibilities, but neither Blaster nor Show Dog really has any new artists that would even make sense. The only artist that they've chosen that wasn't with any of those labels was Craig Campbell, but he'd had a couple of top 20's before "Keep Them Kisses Comin'", and Bigger Picture had been around for a while (they promoted all the singles from ZBB's first 2 albums). But then Bigger Picture closed while KTKC was still climbing the chart, and my guess is that that only made iHeartMedia more wary of going with artists on smaller labels for OTV.

jhomes87 is absolutely right. There's no shot iHeartMedia would ever consider Granger's song or a Thirty Tigers promoted single. Thirty Tigers is just getting started having a radio promo team for mainstream radio and the executives at iHeartMedia don't want to select a song from a label like that. Radio is all about relationships and even a label like Bigger Picture had been around for a few years and had been acquainted with stations owned by Clear Channel (now iHeartMedia) when Craig's song was selected. If this program's still around a few years from now and Thirty Tigers manages and couple hits, then the door is open, but no shot in heck as of now.

Dang that's unfortunate. I admittedly didn't think about the label situation before making that post. It's a shame because I think this is a song that has big hit potential, but most likely never get a real opportunity at it.

It's a shame because I think this is a song that has big hit potential, but most likely never get a real opportunity at it. Well I guess what I was trying to say is, if Granger is able to pull a Chris Janson--that is, be successful enough that a bigger label comes calling--then it's a whole new ballgame. The whole reason Thirty Tigers added a radio team is because they were tired of losing promising talent to the major labels (they lost Chase Rice and now Old Dominion). Thirty Tigers' business model has been extremely successful even without radio airplay--both the label and their artists are able to turn a pretty good profit--but they want to be bigger. So it'll really depend on whether any big labels pursue Granger or not...but even if they do, there's also the possibility that he likes the situation he's in and doesn't want to jump to a bigger label.

Was not expecting to like this, but it's rather catchy. Great song for some backroad driving.
If radio gives this a chance, I could see this catching on

If radio gives this a chance, I could see this catching on Unfortunately radio won't give this song a chance unless Granger latches on with a bigger label. Thirty Tigers new radio promotion team is still a work in progress (4 adds for Love and Theft's "Whiskey On My Breath" on its impact day) and it'll take them a while to build up some solid footing with mainstream radio. Granger has really done a great job building up a strong loyal fan base with his touring schedule and online presence so perhaps a label can see the potential with him as an artist. Like jhomes87 said though, there's a chance that he wouldn't want to make that jump and that he enjoys the current situation she's in with Thirty Tigers. So many behind the scenes factors can play a role in an artist's mindset (relationships, creative freedom, etc.). In the end, if another label showed interests, I think he would listen and sign, but I certainly wouldn't know that for sure.

This is why they're two of the first partners for the deal.

I like this guy's voice and even though this isn't that great of a song, it at least sounds as country as the lyrics portray it to be. It's solid and fairly catchy though and I sure wouldn't mind hearing this on the radio over many of the songs they do play.
He has a good sense of humor, too. I just came across the video for "City Boy Stuck," and thought it was hilarious, lol.

"Country Boy Love" and "The Country Boy Song" are hilarious too...what's funnier though (or maybe sad) is that the Earl Dibbles twitter blows the Granger Smith one away in the Twitter followers.

"Backroad Song" cracks the Billboard Airplay top 60 at #58 this week.
Mostly due to WUBL in Atlanta, lol.

Mostly due to WUBL in Atlanta, lol. Yep. And the fact that audience totals at the bottom of the chart are finally closer to normal. We had a couple of months there where more than 1 million was needed to crack the top 60.

The Highway has been spinning "Backroad Song" on their hour long 'On The Horizon' show.

He's signed to BBR Music so either they'll pick this up or pull something from the forthcoming full length. Check that, they're going to pick up this as they call it his "Brand new single." He won't be back-burnered because no way Granger does a deal like this otherwise.
