Coming in wielding the sword of truth as ALWAYS. I have legit skipped over that song when playing the album in its entirety. #oop. I prefer Unkiss Me by FAR.

Such a boring song and it's way beyond me how that did so well. It's a song about saying goodbye to someone you love. How is it hard to see why that might resonate with people? What's Lucky Strike about? The usual Maroon 5 fare. Sex. After One More Night, another song about sex, I can understand why they might want to promote songs with a different theme. I still say one of the biggest F ups from them or any group this decade was not releasing Lucky Strike (and going w/ Love Somebody). They already had huge success with Payphone and OMN. Daylight is currently their 7 most popular song on iTunes at the moment, years after its release. Love Somebody isn't doing badly at 11, considering just how many hits Maroon 5 has. I doubt they're kicking themselves at all. Also, Love Somebody is basically She Will Be Loved II, both thematically and musically. Probably why they released it. Much more AC friendly than Lucky Strike, too. As much as I like It Was Always You, I question how well it would have done. It takes a while to warm up, and people are so impatient these days...

SMH at Love Somebody being compared to She Will Be Loved You can literally sing the lyrics from one song over the other, and they fit almost perfectly. Try it. The songs have the same musical structure. The songs are about the same subject "Hey, sad girl, I want to be the one to love you. Don't go away." The only difference is the production.

20 something Becky having She Will Be Loved played at her wedding in 2004 --(decade passes)--> 30 something Becky listening to Love Somebody as she drives her son to soccer practice Knowing your audience, it's a thing.

Glad to see it's for a rerelease for V. That means there's still hope. But as Kurt posted in the album thread, there are new songs that are listed under BMI, so if those are released under the new re-release, I doubt they'd go back to the current edition. I always imagine "It Was Always You" as a hit, but I don't see it doing as much in the summer as it could do in the fall/winter months. Hopefully they go back to it, but it's not looking so good. I liked "Love Somebody" for the most part so I was fine with that being a single choice. The real question mark for me was "Daylight". Such a boring song and it's way beyond me how that did so well. I literally think anything they release now is a for-sure hit, regardless of quality. I don't mind either of those songs even as singles but why did they release two totally similar songs? It is strange they didn't release "Lucky Strike" in between the two???? I guess I'm in the minority here but I always thought "Feelings" sounded like an obvious hit from "V"??? I don't think "Daylight" and "Love Somebody" sound alike at all. They're both fairly boring, but that's the only thing they share sonically.

Sort of? It's not a big re-release with an official push like usual. They're just gonna add it onto the new pressings of the album and quietly add it to the digital track list and pretend like it's been there all along. They did the same with "Moves Like Jagger" on Hands All Over a few years ago.

I actually have high hopes for this. I think It Was Always You would have pulled a Won't Go Home Without You (smh, their best songs always flop) and if this has the sound I'm thinking it will, it will be amazing.

"Sugar" was pleasant, but not something I would go out of my way to listen to.
It would be nice to see them expand on that summer sound and give us something hot for the season.

Tacking MLJ onto HAO made sense - they'd been seriously stalling (well, declining) and MLJ gave their career a much-needed jumpstart.
The V era, on the contrary, has been on an upswing, with each single performing better than the previous one (on the Hot 100, anyway) - so did they really think that NOTHING left on the album was single-worthy? If they really wanted to tack stuff onto V, why not wait until the holidays and do a proper re-release?
This is just...really abrupt and surprising. I'm gonna have especially high expectations for this if it needed to take precedence over everything left on V.

I hope this is a lot of fun. Some of their songs lately have been super boring to me (Daylight, Sugar).

Here's my take: They got the single choices right on Overexposed. "Lucky Strike" is great, but the chorus isn't as universal and relatable as "Love Somebody"'s. The "oooohs" on the chorus take some getting used to. I love the verses/prechrous though.
"It Was Always You" is a top 10 single, and would have sounded great on radio. I don't think it's as big of a smash as say "Animals" or "Sugar". Nevertheless, I'm a little disappointed it's being passed on because it is one of the standouts on the album.
I'm open to a new single. They usually bring it with new single drops both pre/post album release e.g. "Makes Me Wonder", "Payphone", "Moves Like Jagger", "Maps", etc.

Love Somebody was the bigger hit than Lucky Strike. They could've released Lucky Strike 5th and still got another hit out of the era, but it would have been the era's smallest hit for sure. And yes to the chorus being the weak link in that song. IWAY is probably a top ten hit, and probably not a top 5 hit. So again, I don't think the loss is as huge as some are making it. It for sure wasn't another Animals/Sugar smash. Unkiss Me and Coming Back for You also fall into that same category. But my guess is an uber catchy smash accidentally manifested with this song, similar to what happened to MLJ, and they didn't want to pass that up for a few other songs that are likely just top ten hits. Unless this doesn't end up sounding like a smash, in which case I have no idea why they would release it now and interrupt the era. Although OneRepublic did the same thing for no good reason.

I hope this is good, but yeah, I'm stunned that they haven't released "It Was Always You" yet, and this has me worried that they never will. :'(

It's crazy to think that aside from the gap from Love Somebody to Maps, which wasn't even a full year, they've been putting out singles mostly consistently since Misery almost 5 years ago. This is going to be the 6th straight summer with a song from them.

My guess is we'll see a tweet from Ryan Tedder about how amazing the song is, and then we'll hear it and collectively decide it sounds like every other Maroon 5 song and ask "Why? Why Maroon 5? Why couldn't you just release IWAY?"

I think it's funny how mostly everyone was against Sugar in the beginning....calling it a Birthday rehash, Katy-related, worse than/better than, etc....and then It went on to hit #1 on Pop. Well deserved, imo. At its peak, it WAS the best song on the radio.

Jack spoiled some of the lyrics for us lol. They'll be performing this on The Voice finale on May 19th, and will probably be available on iTunes shortly after.

If this goes top 2 it will be their 9th consecutive top 2 on CHR. I wonder how long they will keep their reign of dominance up on CHR? This has been one of the longest smash streaks ever for a group on the format I believe.

I don't know what it is about them, but they continuously succeed at merging the line between what gays like and what str8's like, and it all sorta works out for them. They've found a unique balance that Nickelback and Daughtry couldn't find.

I thought I was not the only one that thought "It Was Always You" is one of the worst tracks on V. In Your Pocket would make a great single and the best track on V is definetely Unkiss Me <3
