Everything after I Want Crazy I haven't been a big fan of. I don't care for this at all in any way shape or form and I dislike it even more because it makes me think of Taylor Swifts 22 the entire time.

No you are not the only one that feels this way. In fact, Dallas' demos are better than 90% of his songs that have been cut by artists. I would dare say that the dislike for Kick The Dust Up would be far less if one was listening to Dallas' version. The only song of his that I liked the artist version better was Randy Houser's Running Out of Moonlight. This is far too overproduced, in my opinion.

This isn't remarkable, by any stretch, but so much better than Invisible and Tattoo, and I really like the production; its different. I think this could bounce him back, which it basically has to.

I think this is decent enough...but am I the only one who likes Dallas Davidson's version better? Actually, This is a very good song in my mind. Also, he re-wrote it to fit him better. I actually like the re-writes Hunter has on it. Neither song was "Bro" like people perceive all of Dallas Davidson's stuff to be so I don't think anyone would ever accuse Hunter of going that route, totally not him. Lyrics HereNote: The official YouTube audio is slightly slower than the actual track. Intentional I guess. The Spotify is correct.

I don't like this at all. Hunter's voice is like nails on a chalkboard to me.

I can't stop listening to this! It's my new summer jam, I'm already in love with this song! I think the changes he made suit him and it's just a really fun song. Here's to a return to #1.
PS: This is nowhere near bro-country. If I see anyone say that it is I will go insane.

I'm not a big Hunter Hayes fan but don't consider his music " bro". I have younger family members that are huge fans and they will love this. He is a very talented young artist though not a great vocalist. I hope he becomes a more consistent hit maker or he may move on to pop where one big hit can make a career. It's not good for any genre to lose young talent especially when you are pretty sure the music he makes will only get better as he gets a few years older

I just listened to Hunter's studio version here theboot.com/hunter-hayes-21-song/I have both his albums and this song is by far IMO his most generic ever. It's not bro, it's just dull. Hunter has proven to have much better standards than this. Whatever inspired him on his first album, he needs to get back to that! The bonus tracks that came with the re-release of his first album, any of those songs would have been a better single than this. I'm still ticked that "In A Song" never made it to radio.

It's pleasant enough and certainly better than Invisible. It doesn't really touch the singles from his debut album though.

I heard the song and meh I could do without that cheesy intro but overall not bad it could be a grower Hunters music for me definitely grows on me. I also kinda wished that this didn't get the whole gigantic debut. I like the song enough but it just feels like they could've given a boost to like songs that are just struggling right now.
Predicted Debut Range 27-34 in the Reba to Maddie & Tae range. Do any of the chart guru jhomes87 have an idea where this'll land.

I can see why people think this song doesn't match hunter, lyric wise it's different from his usual singles. I don't love but I don't hate this song, this song will probably grow on me. However I understand why Hunter's team would release this, I think it'll go great on radio and after the abysmal radio support he had with his last album (thank you invisible) he really needs something that can bring him back into their good gracious. I fully expect that the second single would more along the Hunter we've all heard.
Regarding that billboard article Im not understanding it. We're going to get an album from Hunter so what's it saying about single only EP releases?

The song loses me with the first line "It's your birthday." That is such a tired line in songs. Even as recent as Katy Perry's "Birthday." So many songs have the line "party like it's your birthday." As a Hunter fan I love his originality and that line is the most unoriginal line I've never heard out of his mouth.

Good start on Mediabase so far 0 45 HUNTER HAYES 21 968 0 968 7.63 ETA: noticed it got an iHeartRadio deal Yeah it got some hourly treatment from iHeartMedia stations on Thursday, but don't let that fool you. "21" will most likely have a normal climb now as Hunter's just not an artist that can continue to post monster gains after an iHeartMedia debut. That doesn't mean this song can't be a big hit as its very radio-friendly and he has a strong label behind him but I expect "21" to have a workmanlike climb up the singles charts.

I like this a lot. Really, really catchy. Should do well enough to return him to the Top 10 again and have him hopefully experience a nice recovery from his sophomore slump.

I actually like this. Definitely not one of his bests but it's good enough for a single. Still bummed about what happened with the last album since Wildcard and Storyline are still two of my most played songs right now.

Feels a little trend chasy to me, but it's probably what will work at "country" radio. Hunter's such a unique artist, I'd hate to see him sellout after his last album was so mismanaged. Still, this isn't bad once you get past the intro.

Listening to the Hunter Hayes and Dallas Davidson versions of "21" back-to-back, the thing that I am most struck by is how much of a difference it makes hearing a "let's go wild & crazy"-type lyric from a young voice. The thing about Dallas Davidson singing this type of lyric is that neither his songs nor his voice is interesting enough to make me forget that his idea of going wild & crazy includes getting into a drunken bar fight and hurling racist and homophobic slurs. Takes the potential charm out of the material pretty quickly. But even putting Davidson's own history aside, part of my difficulty with much of the Davidson catalog, whether recorded by him or by his bro buddies, is that it's so often a bunch of mid-30 or 40-something guys acting about fifteen to twenty years younger than they are. It reeks of a willful refusal to grow up (and the formulaic presentation reeks of a lack of imagination, willful or not), and it's not cute. But take a Dallas Davidson co-write and add Hunter Hayes, and suddenly that's not a problem anymore. I don't especially care for Hunter Hayes' voice in any setting (studio or live), but his voice carries exuberance and innocence very well. So when Hunter sings a lyric about staying out all night and going crazy, I get the sense that this is a good guy whose idea of going nuts is, I don't know, a sober but enthusiastically ridiculous karaoke night followed by dreaming big dreams on a hilltop lookout point where you can see the stars. The exuberance of the song is enhanced by the "na na na"'s, though I won't argue with anyone who thinks they are a symptom of an overstuffed song, production-wise. The greatest strength of the song is the melody of the chorus, which I find charming and catchy -- due credit to Davidson, Ashley Gorley & Kelley Lovelace there. I don't pretend to know what will work on country radio anymore, but it seems to me like the Hunter Hayes-Dallas Davidson combination of opposites works as well as could have been hoped here -- not to produce a great song but a very current radio-friendly one that still retains Hunter's character. I'll be interested to see how it fares.

Not offensive, but it's probably my least favorite Hayes song outside of Storm Warning and it just doesn't do a whole lot to excite me. Hope it does well for Hunter's sake though.

I'm torn on how I feel about this song. On the one hand, it's catchy and hopefully a hit, which is exactly what Hunter needs. On the other, it sounds like something a lot of other young artists could have recorded, which unfortunately takes away some of the things that made Hunter unique and stand out from the crowd. I hope it works for him, because there's nothing worse than an established artist who chases trends, only to flop.

This has been getting Steven Tyler-like updates since its pre-arranged airplay debut. While I don't think Hunter will quite fall off the chart from his debut position like Steven did, I think I'd expect a drop back to the 48-54 range next week.
