The Pitch Perfect 2 soundtrack tops this week’s new releases with a projected total that may see a huge lift once the movie opens this weekend. For now, we’re basing our projections on the existing sales data with a moderate bump for the weekend. Watch this space as things may change. Here are this week’s key debuts: Pitch Perfect 2 (UMe) 60-65k sales, 70-75k SPS Incubus (Island) 33-38k, 34-39k Snoop Dogg (iamOTHER/Columbia) 19-22k, 21-24k The Music of Nashville: Season 3, Vol. 2 (Big Machine) 11-13k, 13-15k ( HDD)

Is there even that much interest in the movie? It doesnt feel like there was that much hype considering how popular the first one was.

^Not a "bad opening"???????
It's a phenomenal opening for the kind of movie it is.
The original grossed $65 million total.

So far this is only the huge fans who are willing to buy the album without having even watched the second movie or knowing what songs are on it. That's different from other soundtracks that were being pushed by actual singles.

Not bad for Incubus considering it's an EP and the lead single underperformed.

Any projection on what Ed Sheeran's 5 EP collection might sell? It's doing well on iTunes, but at $30 for the set, it's a little steep.

'Pitch Perfect 2' Soundtrack Heading for No. 1 on Billboard 200 Chart NEWS By Keith Caulfield | May 14, 2015 8:39 PM EDT In “aca-awesome” news for fans of the Pitch Perfect films, the new Pitch Perfect 2 soundtrack is heading for No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart. Industry forecasters suggest the set, which was released May 12 through Universal Music Enterprises, could move over 80,000 equivalent album units in the week ending May 17. That number could go higher, depending on consumer reaction to the film, which opens in theaters on May 15. The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week based on multi-metric consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The new Billboard 200’s top 10 will be revealed on Wednesday, May 20. The Pitch Perfect 2 film and album follow the first movie and its corresponding soundtrack, which were released in 2012. The original film earned $65 million at the U.S. and Canada box office, according to Box Office Mojo, while its soundtrack peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard 200. It has sold 1.2 million copies in the U.S. according to Nielsen Music, and its songs have sold 8.7 million downloads. It also spawned the fluke hit single “Cups,” performed by the film’s star Anna Kendrick. The song peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and has sold 2.1 million downloads. ----- WAIT at Anna Kendrick having a 2 million seller. Ha power!

Having seen the movie and listened to the songs,Anna Kendrick's Christmas song with Snoop Dogg has a chance to be big this Christmas when it's released on DVD.

Really surprised PP2 is opening under 100k. Sales will definitely spike with the movie release though.

...and there is a reason for that, especially with the formula change. With album launches, there has been what I like to refer to as the "album effect", where the lead singles tend to get a noticeable boost on the week of launch primarily from sales (case in point: Believe made a 79-54 leap this week on the Hot 100 on the same week Wilder Minds started, and nabbed both top Sales gainer and top Streams gainer, though the latter seems to be less predictable and common) and then crash afterwards due to losing potential buyers to the album itself. Well, now that tracks factor into the album chart itself at a considerable margin (with 10 sales equaling 1 unit), they make the first week notably bigger and then make the dropoff even more severe on week 2.

50 million would be a phenomenal opening for PP2 and, if those numbers are true, I can imagine this coming in above 75-80K and selling pretty well next weekend too.

Ouch @ the drop for Mumford & Sons. I think we're getting closer to the day where we will see a 90% drop. Here I thought TEA/SPS will soften the fall

Pitch Perfect 2 is estimated to open with $70M which surpasses the total box office of the first movie in North America. I'm surprised the OST is not going to sell 100K

With 80% reporting, Guetta's new album is #5 with 29k in pure sales. That was unexpected! Hey Mama is really pushing the album.
