Go girl.
Praying for a couple Dark Horse & E.T. tunes mixed with some nice AC songs like The One That Got Away & Firework. Anything besides This Is How We Do please.

I liked Prism but hopefully she changes her sound a little more or else I can see serious backlash.

She needs more uptempo songs on her next album. PRISM was filled with too many ballads. I'm sure the label is addressing this though.
Unconditionally, however, is still a jam

I'm rooting for more songs like Dark Horse, Legendary Lovers, and Walking On Air. She needs to drop the TGIF/TIHWD material. She needs to release stuff that is more lyrically mature, but can still jam out to.

I wouldn't put it past them to put out something by the end of the year, but either way I'm super excited.
The final leg of her tour isn't until September, so they're probably starting this now.

I hope she steps her game up. I was a fan for the first two albums (even though they haven't aged all that well), but Prism was a snoozefest.

PRISM tracks 1-8 are the perfect 30 min treadmill workout.

Prism was terrible.
I am definitely hoping this is more like Teenage Dream which, in my opinion, was pretty solid.

I'm going to need more 90s house from her after not releasing WOA.

Teenage Dream stands as her "magnum opus", which is saying something, and I wouldn't be surprised if that stands for the rest of her career.
That being said, if she drops one or two number one singles on every album she release, I can live with.
That being said, "Dark Horse" was okay, "Roar" was awful, and "This is How We Do" was a guilt pleas. "Unconditionally" was the best single released and it was nowhere near Top 20, let alone number one.

I love both Teenage Dream and Prism but I can't decide which one is my favorite. Teenage Dream had multiple top-notch pop jams and is essentially a legendary album while Prism's high points (Dark Horse, Roar) are better than anything on Teenage Dream. Plus, Birthday, This Is How We Do and to a lesser extent Walking On Air are on par with the Teenage Dream singles as far as quality goes so I really can't say which album I enjoy more. For the next one I'd rather her not try to rehash Dark Horse cause it'll seem like a 'desperate' move but I'm sure she'll come back with a kind-of fresh sound while still keeping her signature ummm... quirkiness, I guess, on check.

I'm ready for her to drop the candy shtick and be all boobies and sex kitten. I have a feeling that will happen, as she has to know her fanbase is 7 years older now.

Her quirkiness was never an issue for me (I don't know how it was for so many people??) but what got on my nerves is that she's never produced a body of work that was anything more than disposable. It's strange, because she's always had glimmers of that "WOW" factor to her-- I know she has potential. Part of the schtick is just being that in the moment pop girl too, but I wish her music matched that quirky aura she puts off so intentionally. I'm ready for her to drop the candy shtick and be all boobies and sex kitten. I have a feeling that will happen, as she has to know her fanbase is 7 years older now. ...her first single was 'I Kissed a Girl'. She's not that concerned about the kids. The candyland thing was for shits and giggles. That's just her dude.

She might not be, but her label is. They see safe songs as $$$ signs, and that shtick has run its course. The good thing is that she has the drive. She's not complacent at all. Plus I think she is very aware of trends. Not just musically, but when she blurted out "slay mama" you knew she was aware of social media and not just out of touch with it all like Madonna is. I think she knows all the new lingo that goes around.

I wonder if she will switch up her sound for her upcoming album. She shouldn't change it up too much, as I still need her familiar sound because it's so good.

It's crazy how poorly TD has aged for me. I used to think it was a classic/masterpiece a la Breakaway, Butterfly, whatever, etc., but it really is not on that level. It is distinctly of its moment, which is fine, but timeless is not a word you can use to describe it.

It is distinctly of its moment, which is fine, but timeless is not a word you can use to describe it. While the bold part is true, 2010 was the year that many trends were set that still linger around to this day 5 years later. Teenage Dream is the go-to album for those trends (sugary electropop, the rent-a-rapper treatment for a later single etc) as it represents them in their most pristine way. So I guess it is timeless as 5 years in the pop landscape equals a lifetime in real life.

While I don't think TD has aged that poorly - I think all of its hits still hold up - to me, classic albums usually get mentioned for their entire body of work, not just their singles. I so rarely see anyone mention TD's album tracks. She had a couple that could/should have been released (Hummingbird Heartbeat :'() but overall, TD wasn't a 100% great album even when it was released anyway, so it figures that few really look back on it as a classic now. It was a 'solid' album, as B4L stated, not one bit more or less. It will be ultimately be remembered more for what it accomplished, which is fine, but now she needs to set her goals even higher.
I guess what I really 'want' from Katy - inasmuch as I might desire anything at all from her - is a truly good album from front to back. She needs to actually have a Breakaway kind of moment in terms of quality as well as relative commercial success; give me the album that is so great you can name an arena tour after one of the album cuts and people will totally get it. Give me the album that guarantees that almost EVERYONE in your fanbase will be pissed off when it is over because no matter what, at least one of their favorite single-worthy songs didn't get released. Give me the album that I can just press 'play' instead of having to create a mini-playlist on Spotify because I'm tired of skipping songs. Now what Katy needs to do musically to accomplish that, I don't know if I can or even should say. I could point to things she has already done, but who knows, maybe she could tap into something new for her and strike gold that way. I just know that she needs to approach every song as if it is going to be a single instead of padding out her CD around a handful of songs she and her label have already picked out. If that means giving me a lean 9 or 10 track album, then give me the shorter album.
I do think if she is going to rely on what she has done before, ET/Dark Horse would be a really great template for her. Those are her 'edgiest' songs - DH even got her some urban clout - but they still have simple yet catchy lyrics and effective hooks. I also think Katy should return to her template of having a visual theme. OOTB and TD both had that, but Prism didn't really have one underlying thing tying it all together, and for an act like Katy I think the visual cues really make a difference. The little promo vids she did leading up to Roar's release (where she 'buried' TD) were amazing but eventually led to nothing and left me with the musical equivalent of blue balls.

I don't know that we can give TD credit for sugary electro pop and rent a rapper. Gaga (and Kesha) Really ushered in the dance trend, and the rent a rapper treatment had existed before TD.

I think Teenage Dream is timeless. I mean, it's STILL on the BB200:
169 171 166 211 Teenage Dream, Katy Perry 1
In fact, it's the 8th longest lasting female album of all time charting on the BB200.
That's gotta mean something. Besides 21, which is #6 all time, what other album has been selling as long?

That's not a completely accurate gauge since the rules of recurrency on the BB200 changed back in 09. I think plenty of albums would have remained on the chart longer than they did had they not been moved to the catalog albums chart due to recurrent status

The way streaming is tied to the BB200, I'm not surprised TD is hanging on. It gets plenty of streams between its 8 hits.
TD was pretty much a solid pop album for when it was released given what was going on musically. Listening to it now, parts do sound dated because productions have gotten either more multilayered and lush or the other side of the spectrum with a more minimal sound (which is where both of the big hits from her last album fall, although most of PRISM employed a more lush and soft approach) since then.
