Give me LYRICS on this next album. Prism was a pretty bland album lyrically, and Katy has shown she's capable of better. Bring back the clever quirkiness of One of the Boys and/or a newfound depth that comes from age and experience. If she's not going to write as much, please enlist writers who actually can.
Sound-wise, I don't have a particular genre in mind. But give us another "Dark Horse" moment; something out-of-left-field, but not so drastically different as to be completely unrecognizable (à la Back to Basics --> Bionic).

Prism was a pile of garbage tbh. "Walking on Air" and, for a fleeting moment, "Dark Horse" were great, but that's it.
I agree about TD not aging super well, but I still prefer all 8 of those singles to anything on Prism. She totally lost any sort of authenticity or point of view.
Please revisit the One of the Boys days and give us an actual picture of who you are as an artist.

I want an album with angsty, darker singer-songwriter-ish songs like "Pearl", "Circle The Drain", and "Who Am I Living For".

I want an album with angsty, darker singer-songwriter-ish songs like "Pearl", "Circle The Drain", and "Who Am I Living For". No shade, but every one of those tracks was filler. I'm not going to say I don't want angsty or introspective stuff from her, but generally Katy's attempts at 'deeper' material have been her biggest misses. CTD is the only time I enjoyed her supposed angstier side, and even that wasn't spot on. The production was undercooked and I probably only put up with it because it sounded like a demo for All I Ever Wanted. I still think the best things she ever did with her life were her covers of Electric Feel and Black and Gold, but I'm also pretty sure I'm one of maybe ten people who would be here for an acoustic leaning album from her. Katy has played the quintessential pop star role too long to flip into l'artiste mode without warning and be able to get away with it, I think.

Katy has played the quintessential pop star role too long to flip into l'artiste mode without warning and be able to get away with it, I think. That would actually be nice. Or a few acoustic tracks. A producer who produces under the name Country Club Martini Crew made a full acoustic album of the PRISM album using the actual acapella stems. They are pretty good. www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLlfmaylG-JeYjFI6w3P6alvtQi7TrDoah

Whatever the next album is I want Ghost and Legendary Lovers on it so they can get their proper releases as singles... Ghost is literally the one that got away :(
(I think Im one of the few who prefers PRISM over Teenage Dream)

It would be nice if she strived for being anything other than basic. She has some moments, but I have had vanilla ice cream cones more interesting than her.

Teenage Dream definitely did not age as well as I hoped it would, but honestly a lot of albums from that whole 2010 pop era sounds dated. Loud is another album that suffers from that. I think Prism actually has a more fuller and rich sound than does the whole Teenage Dream album which- production wise, sounds kind of messy now? The songwriting and melodies on Teenage Dream are MUCH better than Prism though.
I have no idea what to expect from her next album. I'm gonna assume they are working on making the material really catchy and hooky and pop as opposed to the acoustic or more serious tracks.

I still listen to Prism regularly. So far it has aged pretty well for me. I still listen to a good number of songs on the first half. However, even though Teenage Dream is the superior album, I agree it has definitely aged a lot more. I still jam out to California Gurls, ET, and Part of Me but everything else has not really aged well.

Hummingbird Heartbeat is always and forever the best song between the two albums.
That is all.

I'm here for some House music a la Walking on Air from Katy, still so angry that WOA wasn't released as the last single from Prism > Also, songs like E.T. and definitely Dark Horse are more than welcome for the new album but please no more the unbearably shitty This is How We Do and Birthday type of songs please

I'm surprised TD aged so poorly for so many people here. It has aged exceptionally well for me minus the lead single and "Peacock." (And "Dressin' Up" from the re-release.)
Otherwise, every other track has aged very well for me. Most notably "Teenage Dream" and "Hummingbird Heartbeat," two of the best pop songs in ages.

Almost all of the singles from Teenage Dream are still in heavy rotation on my Spotify/iTunes. I love them! (Sans CG)

Yea I understand the criticism people have against PRISM. Sometimes less is more, and that's clearly the case here. While it's great as a fan to have as many tracks as possible, in the end you just end up skipping the filler over time. I think the album would be a lot better received had it been the first 8, and then maybe Double Rainbow and BTGOG and Ghost and that's it.
I'm kinda over albums that have all these marketing ploys by having deluxe/super deluxe (lol) tracks. It's just too much and really just brings down the critical grade of the album.
I'd rather have 10 great songs every 2 years than 15-16 (25 even lol) every 3-4 years. If demos leak, that's fine, but keep the parent album solid and cohesive, and make it listenable in a single session. Not hours of music. Attention spans are too short these days for stuff like that.

The only songs off Teenage Dream that I have played somewhat recently are California Gurls and The One That Got Away. Everything else either hasn't aged well or has never been good in my book.

I don't listen to anything on Teenage Dream. But if I had to pick a favorite right now, it would be Last Friday Night.

Frustrated similarly to many here that the sound she pursued from TD most on Prism was the LFN-goofy pop. Give me EDGE like ET, CTD, DH, and underrated/forgotten deluxe track SPIRITUAL

There will not be an album out this year, lol. How can you be on the road non-stop AND be writing, recording, and mixing a new album, in whatever city/state/country you're in? Unless she's on meth, I don't think that's possible. But summer 2016, get ready.

But they would definitely need at least several months for recording, mixing, shipping, lining up promo etc. If it's not already mostly in the can, they're running out of time for a 2015 release.

She's currently on a four month break this summer, if she was writing while on tour, it's definitely possible to get a good number of songs recorded during this break. Not sure how the quality would be since four months seems a little rushed.
