Ahhhh, I was just going to start this thread!!! Matt snatches it from me, lol.
I was told this is the next single by my contact at WYRK. WSIX also added it this week. There should be confirmation in Billboard and/or Aircheck.

The title has me intrigued I'll give it that. it's the most "Country" song on the record (which is REALLY soul-leaning).

The title has me intrigued I'll give it that. The song is exactly what you think it is. It's about a small town that celebrates Friday night football and is also a drinking town. This one will peak in the fall, which is why it should have been expected that this was the second single all along.

^Ugh can radio lay off the drinking still If you are bothered by drinking on country radio then this genre might not be for you, lol. :) But as Matt said, this song is really a football song and that's really the premise behind it. This one peaking in the fall will be picture perfect.

I mean no resoedt Those kinds of songs will be a core part of country forever. "Sippin' On Fire" really uses a drink metaphor (like this song) for a budding relationship. "Bartender" and "Day Drinking" both invoke the need to get away. They're not pointless to me.

How were we supposed to know that from your original post? Yes those songs invlove drinking, but so do "Drinkin' Man", "Beer In Mexico", "Whiskey Lullaby" and "You And Tequila". Country music and drinkin' songs go hand in hand. The songs you mentioned have another problem entirely, like production and lyrics.

But it's these oh let's just go out and get drunk. It's that makes me mad.

Hopefully this will be the next single iTunes releases from the album so we can listen to it. I was actually thinking the song they already released "It Don't Hurt Like It Used To" would be the second single.

Can't wait to hear this one, simply because of the awesome title. I'm a HUGE football fan, so I'll gladly pay attention to any song about the subject. The timing for this single should work perfectly as it will be hitting its stride during the height of football season.

Sounds like it will be a big hit in Pittsburgh! For my sake I hope it is good, I'm going to give it a listen later.
Edit: Just realized this is on an album that hasn't been released yet, so I won't be listening yet.

Billy is one of the more underrated artists in this genre. I don't think I've disliked one single from him, and that trend doesn't look like it will change here based off the clip. His "We Are Tonight" album was brilliant from top to bottom. Hope this record is as well.

I've only been told what the songs about before today, but based on that clip, this will easily be one of my favorite Billy songs. Much better than "Don't It", which just seemed like a lyrically weak but catchy song that was the ultimate safe lead single.
The Henningsens said in an interview a couple weeks back how thrilled they were that Billy recorded the song. Glad for them that they have a writing credit on a radio single.

From the clip it seems more anthemic, whereas I was hoping for more of a story song (Billy does them so well). Nonetheless, still sounds good and just about anything is better than the utterly forgettable "Don't It". Looking forward to hearing the entire song.

Thank goodness. This is the type of song I've been waiting for. From Billy. From anyone. This type of song still exists? Is it 2004?
Cheers.

I have a shirt from Tuscaloosa with this on it. It always got a laugh when I wore it.
Always been a Billy fan but really couldn't get into his last couple of singles. Maybe this one will change my mind about him.
