If only radio would be willing to give her a chance with this song. Kacey definitely needs more hit songs and I want her to have some too.

This song has been stuck in my head for day. Great writing, love the lyrics and melody. Get it Kacey.

^ trebor, did you listen to that before posting it? It's definitely been affected in some way by whoever uploaded it to prevent it from being detected for copyright. It's also not from her official page, so that's kind of a dead giveaway there, too. And the song length is also like two minutes off, lol.

Google/YouTube should really screen the uploads; and I should listen to the songs first... You are right about that. Will take the link down. Sorry folks.

I really wish that they were going a different song for the single. I did see that they are using High Time as the single over in the UK.

This is honestly my least favorite song on the new album. I wanted cup of tea or this town to be released.

After listening to the album several times now, this is 100% the best choice for the next single and my favorite song on the album. There are a couple other songs that might work well for radio, but Dime Store Cowgirl is by far the most radio friendly to my ears. I hope we get some confirmation on this one soon and that it actually does something for Kacey. Her album sales this week should wake radio up to her potential, but also her Grammy wins, digital sales, critical acclaim, etc. should have so I'm not super optimistic about anything from Pageant Material making top 30 on radio.

This is such a great song. I'm nervous about its chances at radio, but reading the optimism from some people here has made me feel a bit better about how it will do. I don't see her having big hits at radio with this album (or with anything really...unfortunately, this isn't the 1990s anymore), but this should do well enough to sustain her.

I do hope radio is on her side this time. It's less preachy and liberal so... the odds are in her favor! Besides this, what were the other obvious single choices y'all thought? I feel like "High Time" is definitely one. The release of "Keep It To Yourself" threw me off and I can never predict what they're gonna go with. After listening to the album several times now, this is 100% the best choice for the next single and my favorite song on the album. I agree with you 100%. If this isn't a hit of some sort, there's clearly some crazy bias against her IMO.

Kacey doesn't kiss up to radio like other artists do. I'm not knocking on other artists because they pretty much all have to do it (otherwise they won't get airplay), but I don't see that with Kacey. I'm not saying she's unfriendly toward them or anything like that, but it just seems to me that she doesn't feel the need to brown-nose and play the 'radio game'. Unfortunately that probably means she's gonna face an uphill battle at radio no matter how good the song is, no matter how many albums she sells, and no matter how much critical acclaim she receives. I say more power to her for doing things her way.
Like she says in "Good Ol' Boys Club", it "shouldn't be about who it is you know, but about how good you are". That to me is a ringing indictment of country radio, but I couldn't agree with that lyric any more. Radio stations seemingly only support the labels/artists that they're "friends" with, regardless of song quality, and I hate that it's like that.
Anyway, "Dime Store Cowgirl" got its 1st add this week, at KRTY in San Jose. We'll have to see if a couple other stations add it tomorrow and start spinning it this week.

Still no confirmation on this. I'll leave the thread open for another week or so, but after that I'll probably lock it unless we get confirmation of what the single is going to be. I really think "Dime Store Cowgirl" is the best bet, so I hope Mercury officially announces it soon. In the meantime, it looks like Kacey and Willie Nelson shot a video yesterday for the hidden track "Are You Sure?" I have my doubts that AYS will be a single, but I suppose we can't completely rule it out.

Love KRTY-they seem to play a good variety, cater more to viewer requests. Not surprised they are the first to add it. Too bad they are physically so far away from me :'( I'm not so sure this is the best radio single, but still savoring the album to see what would be. Hopefully we will know soon.

I hope we get official confirmation soon of the next single, and I'm still hoping that it's "Dime Store Cowgirl"! I'm intrigued by the video for the Willie Nelson duet but that would literally be one of the worst choices for radio she could make, so I really hope that she's just doing that music video for fun. Plus, it's a hidden track, so it'd be really messy to not even officially include that as a stand-alone track on the album if they were going to do that, which also leads me to think that they wouldn't released it. Looking forward to hearing something soon though -- early sales, reviews, and just general hype are obviously great regardless, but I do want to see this album reach a bigger audience through radio and I believe "Dime Store Cowgirl" can be at least as big as "Blowin' Smoke," though I do quite a bit of success potential in it beyond that. "Biscuits" is dead and gone (RIP :'( ), so it's about time to announce something.

"Are You Sure" surely cannot be a single (for the reasons indulge said above) plus it's just not a great song (in my opinion). I love everything on "Pageant Material", except for AYS so hopefully its just a fun video with Willie Nelson to help some buzz around Kacey

I'm glad they're going w/ this. It's the only one that I really liked from the album. I was hoping she would've made a more current-sounding album.

I think this is their best bet for a single. I don't know why there's no confirmation of a single. Surely they are not still hoping Biscuits will do something more than it already did. If this is not the second single, then High Time will be, according to them launching it as the lead single in the UK. If that's the case, I don't know how they are going to promote it. It sounds so much like a Chris Isaak song (love Chris!) and I don't know where he sends his songs for radio, but I never see him charting anywhere. Hopefully that's not the case with High Time if they decide to release it.

This is a good song, but I'm not sure how it will do on radio. It does seem a bit too specific and not universal enough.

Still no indication that this will be the next single. I'm almost wondering if UMG doesn't think radio will play this or any other song from the album? It will be a huge shame if they give up after "Biscuits" stalled. The album sales have been stellar.
If we don't get any confirmation of the new single tonight, I'm going to move this thread over to the non-singles/album tracks forum.

If radio sleeps on this, call it quits. Country radio will officially be dead. This is one of the best songs for country radio in years.

I love that Charlie Worsham has been hanging out with Kacey lately. He played banjo and guitar on her album :)

I love that Charlie Worsham has been hanging out with Kacey lately. He played banjo and guitar on her album :) Charlie's a beloved musician and person in Nashville. He and the Brothers Osborne (Charlie and John were in KingBilly) came up in Nashville together with Kacey and others in their "crew" of friends. If for some reason his own music doesn't take off, he'll never be far away and could take his place as a studio musician/producer/songwriter. But I DO hope Charlie breaks out with album #2.

Only 15 adds today. I seriously want to cry. Kacey has out-sold almost every new male artist that's released an album in the last few years, she even out-sells artists like Billy Currington and Joe Nichols...and "country" radio just won't play her. No, they'd rather play pop and hip-hop music that's either been influenced or produced by the likes of Pharrell and Diplo and Nelly and Kanye and Cee Lo Green. It's great to see guys like them (and also Lunchmoney Lewis) take their rightful place in country music history.

I'd like to say thank you to the 18 stations that added this. You know given the sales you would figure Kacey would have more momentum.
Anyway's I heard this song on the radio last night and man just so country. Also so beautiful.

It's great to see guys like them (and also Lunchmoney Lewis) take their rightful place in country music history. Her music is brilliant. Far too country and far too female, however. I think the latter is what is really holding her behind. All these radio morons were helped out nicely throughout the "saladgate" issue when Kelsea Ballerini fell into their laps. Now they can say, "fine look, we'll play THREE females" when in reality all they are thinking is that Kelsea is safe enough because her music sounds like a mix between Katy Perry and modern day Carrie Underwood. Geez, you'd think Alan Jackson was a 90-year-old Starbucks barista on roller blades judging by how radio reacted to his new single (or didn't react). Is it really any surprise that they are turning cheek at a FEMALE making REAL country? I'm looking forward to 5 years from now when every song is a Sam Hunt/Thomas Rhett duet beatbox remix of R. Kelly, featuring the Blue Man Group and a repeating jazz flute rendition of the Filet o' Fish jingle.
