I'm not pretending to know how Kacey feels about this whole thing but I'd imagine she just lets it roll.
Seems that she is fine telling radio to "truck it" because the current format really isn't how music is supposed to be. Kacey has her fans and they will clearly buy her singles and albums and stream her stuff whether radio plays her or not.
Really, radio is shooting themselves in the foot.
Change, it's a comin' folks...

Honestly, this is VERY radio friendly, and if radio doesn't want to play it, it's because of a personal issue against Kacey, not the song.

Well, in that interview recently posted, the interviewer was asked to not ask her about radio playing or not playing her songs. She still asked and Kacey got serious. I think she's also surprised she's not getting played, maybe a little hurt, but she is making herself strong to not let this debilitate her. She, just like us, must be really weirded out that her songs are not getting played. I just wish this so much talked about fragmentation of the format would already happen! There would be less reasons for her not to chart in at least one of the two formats.

In a way I am kind of happy that radio doesn't play her because I would always be curious how it would impact her if she shot right to the top of the country charts cause her songs are incredible and if everyone was exposed to her greatness how would it impact her writing and her cds.
I think some of Blake's earlier material is much better than the stuff he releases now. I think what he releases now has everything to do with his instant rise to the top and staying there.
Also is she getting played on satellite radio? I did a 8 hour drive yesterday and probably should have switched over to The Highway to see if she'd come on.

I'd love to see this song get Song and Record of the Year nominations, plus an Album of the Year. Are those realistic, do we think?

She has a shot at being nominated for Album of the Year, but I don't think this has the slightest chance of being nominated for Record and Song of the Year. I would love to see it get nominated though.

Doesn't her label have any control over her relationship with radio? Like can't they basically make her do some interviews and a little bit of ass kissing, maybe?
Sorry, I'm not too familiar with how the industry works "behind the scenes".

Sorry, I'm not too familiar with how the industry works "behind the scenes". The radio interviews may depend on her contract (I assume the amount of promo she is/isn't expected to do has been worked out). I'm sure there are some cases where the label can pressure their artists into doing promo (since promo equals visibility, which means more money could come rolling in). But, I've also always gotten the impression that Kacey doesn't care much about promo or sales, and her label seems to be fine with that right now. If Kacey has no desire to be a big star, then pushing her singles to radio might be a moot point, especially since she's been able to build a pretty loyal following with the right support. There are plenty of other ways to support an album without going the traditional way with radio interviews and such, and Kacey seems to be more keen on that kind of promotion, anyway.

I'm not very familiar with how things really work either, so this is how I see it: i love how Kacey focus on her music and not on playing the "industry game". Having said that, i would image Kacey is not the only artist in country music today who don't kiss every single radio programmers' ass in order to get some airplay... Am I wrong? How do this other artists manage getting played? Do they need to reach a certain status to do so? Could her label be doing more??

Sorry, I'm not too familiar with how the industry works "behind the scenes". I'm sure they could try, but Kacey has indicated a number of times that that just simply isn't who she is. Why should she sacrifice her personal integrity? Radio has made it clear that they aren't interested in what Kacey is giving them, and she's honestly doing just fine without them.

Of course, we all know the real reason she isn't having hits is because she has two X chromosomes.

Of course, we all know the real reason she isn't having hits is because she has two X chromosomes. Yeah, radio will help push a debut female's single (as they did with Kacey) but there are few seats in the continuing airplay roster in their mind. So why would they pick an independent, non-ass-kissing, sometimes controversial lyric writer, traditional country music singer like Kacey vs. bubblier more pop leaning, more tabloid worthy, perhaps chance to cross over women singers? It's not surprising they haven't chosen her to fill one of those spots really at all, even as it is disgusting to those who value well written real country music. Hopefully her label is ok with her income for them. Didn't Sara Evans just get dumped by RCA ?

The numbers are really quite sad for this song. "Dime Store Cowgirl" is in super light rotation on every station spinning it -- the highest spin totals are KSCS in Dallas and WJVC on Long Island with just 13 spins for each.
All but 6 of the 23 stations who have added this song have spun it less then 10 times over the past seven days, with nearly all of those spins allocated to overnight hours. The result is an audience of roughly 400k to 500k on MB...that's not even going to come close to the top 50 on that chart. This song is literally being treated like a brand new artist on a start up label like Reviver, I.R.S. or Cingle Records.
Mercury/UMG knows the kind of artist and person Kacey is. Her songs and albums sell and she has a huge fan-base, considering the limited airplay she garners. She likes radio and she likes meeting people at radio but the problem is she doesn't go out of her way to accommodate radio, and that definitely rubs them the wrong way. You factor in her music being the opposite of what radio likes to play right now and the fact she's a female, and this is what you get. She doesn't chase trend and she doesn't cater to radio or their demographic they're currently targeting with their playlists. Mercury believes in Kacey and loves her music. Sure, they're probably massively disappointed that they just cannot break her at radio and basically have given her the cold shoulder. But she's super popular without their help, and her label knows that. Radio airplay is the #1 way to be heard, even in 2015, but Kacey is doing about as well as an artist can do without it, and she's making the music she desires, which is good news for us.
All I can do is shake my head when I see the bleak numbers "Dime Store Cowgirl" has put up thus far. It's absurd an artist as popular as Kacey can't get radio to give her the time of day and as long as they don't, they're just continuing to shoot them selves in the foot.

What makes it all even more frustrating is that her numbers are so solid even with no airplay at all... Just imagine how much bigger she would be with their help. Not only that, but how significant for the genre it would be to have someone like Kacey reaching more people. The fact that she can sell double of what so many artists with #01 records can is just a small indication of what she could be capable of with more support.

I think what's most frustrating about how radio is treating this is that's easily one of her most radio friendly songs to date. The melody is infectious, the lyrics aren't as polarizing as some of her past singles and considering that she's build a fairly large fanbase; it's frustrating to see radio not even give this the time of day.

This song really has a nice sound and Kacey's voice sounds amazing. "DSC" seems radio friendly enough to get airplay. Kacey does a great job of walking the fence between Traditional and trying some what to score some small radio success on "DSC" I really hope "Dime Store Cowgirl" makes a top 10 run on country radio. I also wish XM The Highway would stop playing "Family Is Family" and would put "Dime Store Cowgirl" in regular rotation. I actually like "Family Is Family" as well but lets play the song Kacey is sending to radio, any little bit helps get "DSC", even if its just sales. Anyone think Kacey has any chance at a small radio hit on her hands with this one?

The Highway spinning "Family Is Family" is infuriating. I doubt "Dime Store Cowgirl" gets to the top 50, let alone top 40 so no, I don't think she has a small radio hit on her hands. It looks like Kacey got 5 adds this week but they're all small market stations, except for Tampa (WQYK).

any chance this will even chart? At this point, just charting at all would be a victory... =(
It reminds me of when I was a big fan of Julie Roberts (when she was still signed to Mercury, about 10 years ago) and it was just as depressing how she was completely ignored by radio, especially after her second album when she couldn't even chart. And I though I would never go through that again... silly me =(

This is honestly one of the most radio-friendly songs Kacey has ever released, so if this can't even hit the top 50 I don't think country radio will spin anything she puts out, no matter what it is. She's doing just fine without radio (though it's frustrating to think how much bigger she could be with a little radio support). Country radio not playing this track is a clear statement from them to Kacey. And for me it just further reinforces why I don't listen to the radio anymore. She does have a half-page ad in Country Aircheck tonight, though:

She's at least charting on the Indicator chart (up 58-57* in week 3). It absolutely in no way makes up for anything, but I'm glad to see her at least charting somewhere. I'm still hopeful that this cracks the main chart, but it's disappointing to see her no longer in even New and Active.

Lol, it's almost as if her team made that promo picture with shady spirits. "Let's show radio that they're ignoring an artist who just sold out three major cities in three different portions of the United States, one of which most Country artists that they spin don't even frequent on their own tours, let alone sell out."

"Are You Sure" is a great song with a strong video, but why the heck did they combine it with "Fine" on the album? It's annoying that I have to essentially listen to both just to listen to one of them.

That video is perfect in every single way. Homegirl is killing it with the aesthetic this era.

Have they filmed a video for "Dime Store Cowgirl" as well, or are we not getting one for the actual single?
