since I've heard none of Jason Isbell. A damn shame if I ever heard one Jk, but not really ;) Honestly the only reason I know Jason Isbell's name is because of ZBB covering "Dress Blues" recently. Before that I don't recall ever hearing anything about him and I was surprised to see (when I looked him up on Wikipedia) that he has several albums already because I thought maybe he was new like Chris Stapleton.

Officially sent recurrent on BB. Alan has been sent aside on radio. BB peak #50. Oh well. His second lowest charted single following the #53 peaking It's Alright To Be A Redneck from 2001. I wonder if EMI will release a second single.

There was a chance they wouldn't even bother with one single but decided to give "Jim And Jack And Hank" an add date when the album dropped, but radio basically gave this the cold shoulder with 11 adds its first week out. There's always a chance but I think EMI is done bothering sending songs to radio from Angels and Alcohol.

As much as I agree that we won't see a second single, I really wanted "You Never Know" and "The One You're Waiting On" to follow the lead single.

I want "Angels and Alcohol" to be the second single if there will be one.

I, too, would be surprised if there's a second single. Even the first single seemed like a bit of an afterthought, considering it went for adds around when the album was released. I guess stranger things have happened, but I wouldn't be too hopeful that a second single gets sent out.

I can see you Never Know since he did do that one at the show I saw.

I wouldn't compare It's Alright To Be... to the chart run of any other song, since it was pulled from radio to make room for AJ's famous (and badly-needed) song about 9/11. It would not have peaked at 53 without a national tragedy intervening. I think you can safely say Jim and Jack was AJ's worst chart peak.

Redneck actually spent 10 weeks on the charts though. Was it getting unsolicited airplay before and/or after? I remember a video for it, too.

Redneck actually spent 10 weeks on the charts though. Was it getting unsolicited airplay before and/or after? I remember a video for it, too. Pulse Country Music Board reaches a new level of obscure discussion -- let's see, the song debuted when the album came out, a year before it was chosen as the 4th single from its album. So it did get some of its weeks back in late 2000. Then it re-entered as an official release, in November 2001, and was beginning its run, only to be pulled for good reason. Nothing was going to interfere with Where Were You? and this song was sacrificed. It didn't re-enter until November 2001, and Where Were You did debut before the end of that month. I'm guessing a few weeks of Redneck's chart run were from lingering airplay after the song was pulled and the big song debuted. (I have no proof.)

Maybe Alan Jackson can pick up the "On the Verge" new artist since the majority of people listening to country radio (and programmers alike) seem to have no idea who he is.

I think they're offering this designation to Patty Loveless next, to capitalize on the recent surge in popularity of female artists at country radio. But AJ can slot in right after Patty. Nice post, tonyei31.
