Scotty shouldn't be a candidate for OTV anyway since he's been around for four years and has two top 10 singles, as well as a couple other top 20 singles, so I don't think that's what this is. They probably won't narrow down potential OTV selections 'til next month anyway since Cam was just announced as the most current one 2-3 weeks ago. This is a strange situation and I won't even speculate why Mercury would potentially hold this back til the fall until I hear further confirmation. He wouldn't seem like a candidate, but Dustin Lynch had a bigger hit than Scotty ever had, and he was able to secure the OTV. I'm not saying that what you said night not be the case, but I certainly wouldn't be surprised at if he did get chosen. Same with Craig Campbell getting two top 15 hits before his selection. Selecting artists with past hits is something I feel shouldn't be part of the program. They do seem to be gearing more towards the new artists with no hits since Dustin's selection though, which I guess should be taken into account. I still seriously doubt this song is a future OTV selection.

There are some people saying that his label could have pulled the song due to the "Dukes of Hazard" line since TV stations are yanking it off the air due to the Confederate Flag being prominent in the show. To me that is far fetched. So many DJs were praising the song instantly. I hope the OTV theory is true. Whatever happen, happened fast, cause in most of Scotty's interviews lately he has said "in a few weeks" and "July" when asked about new music.

...Okay. I know the confederate flag and its history, and I agree with it being taken down, but I don't think Scotty should be penalized for referencing a show that featured the flag. That seems ridiculous.

I wouldn't necessarily rule Scotty out for OTV, but I think it's pretty doubtful.

Do y'all think Scotty is going to chose a different single because of the criticism over his line that mentions the Confederate flag?

Do y'all think Scotty is going to chose a different single because of the criticism over his line that mentions the Confederate flag? I sure hope not. But it's not Scotty's choice, it's Mercury/UMG. Scotty played a snippet of this song at his Fan Club party during CMA Fest and he was so excited about it. I'm sure he'd be the last to want this pulled. Something is going on behind the scene, but who knows what. Scotty isn't in the A list position to dangle a single and entice radio just to yank it away and be forgiven. Some of these stations have listeners upset that the station suddenly can't play the song. Why his label is doing this, who knows, but it sure as hell better be worth it in the end.

947 QDR 10 mins Scotty McCreery's new single "Southern Belle" originally was set for a July release. His label Mercury Records Nashville made a change and sent us this today. “The Scotty McCreery single we originally scheduled for a 7/13 add date to radio. It has been moved to September to give us more time for a proper set up. After discussing yesterday with management we felt that it was in everyone’s best interest to wait till September.” So Scotty 94-7 only wants the best for him. As much as we would like to play the new record on the air, we're going to wait until it's the right time Ok this is f-ed up! They send it to radio with a release date. Some stations are already playing it and getting fans excited, then the label tells them to STOP playing it for 3 more months when Scotty hasn't had a single out in a year! Mercury Records, F You! I took my recording of it down due to the pushback. This blows and really doesn't make any sense. I loved what I heard in the clip you posted and was really looking forward to it being released this month! And now we have to wait until September

There have been quite a few stations playing this song. Strangely his home station QDR is the only one I know of complying with the order not to play it. Even the other station in Raleigh is. In fact that station has enough plays to register an auto add on Monday. I see a lot of stations on Twitter playing this song in "new song match ups" on their nightly shows with Scotty winning to be played again the next night. Radio is finally welcoming Scotty with open arms with this song and who is standing in the way, his own record label. Has anything like this happened at all with anyone? No one is talking and it's very odd. I just don't buy the theory that the Dukes of Hazard line is not PC anymore to release it. That's just to stupid to be true. If it is true, then Mercury is giving Curb a run at its money for the most ball-less label in Nashville.

This was probably moved it because of that line but there's also a TON of chart traffic right now and he's still a slow riser so waiting til fall to release it is not a big deal.

September is really far off though. Yeah the chart is still more congested right now than usual (it's actually gotten better over the past few weeks, lol), but this song won't pick up steam til the fall months anyway. Plus, we have no clue how the charts will look in September. There could be a half dozen songs in the top 15 from star acts by then for all we know and I highly doubt this push back was because of chart congestion. Case in point of that not always working would be Logan Mize; his song was originally scheduled for a January add date but was pushed back to March (because of the chart congestion and over crowded release schedule) and it turns out that March was even worse timing as the spring was a blood bath for many singles. I think that might help their decision to push the song back but it wasn't the main factor. There was just something schedule wise that isn't to our knowledge that is going on here with the label, or at least that how it's looking to me. Perhaps a re-evaluation of the single or single release schedule (radio and TV appearances, promotion , etc.). BTW: Music Row put this up in the single release schedule yesterday for July 13th, lol.

Do we have official confirmation that this isn't being released now? Because it seems like there's conflicting information now as to whether it is being released or not. All very confusing.

Do we have official confirmation that this isn't being released now? Because it seems like there's conflicting information now as to whether it is being released or not. All very confusing. I think it's a confusing situation. According to a tweet from QDR, Scotty's hometown station the label told them the single has been pushed back until September when it was originally going for adds July 13th. If the single is really being released 7/13, then QDR for some reason provided information contrary to the case. Let's assume that it was pushed back. The label then must have not told other radio stations, media, etc. After the tweet from QDR, radio stations continue to play it & calling it the new single. Taste of Country, Music Row, and others are also calling it his new single even after the tweet. Besides the tweet from QDR, there's been no official confirmation from the label, media, etc. of the single being pushed back. I do think the single has been pushed back, but if that's the case the label should have officially confirmed it & told the media.

Not sure why the label would tell just one station this information if it were the case, and allow all the other stations and media to continue playing it and advertising it as his new single with the original release date. That doesn't make sense to me.

Not sure why the label would tell just one station this information if it were the case, and allow all the other stations and media to continue playing it and advertising it as his new single with the original release date. That doesn't make sense to me. I tweeted Billy Dukes of TOC this last night... Jonathan @scotty1dfan · Jul 2 @billydukes @947_QDR Why is the other Raleigh station and a lot of others around America still playing the song if it's been pulled? and he replied this to me... Billy Dukes @billydukes · 23h23 hours ago @scotty1dfan they don't have to stop. Billy knows radio and he used to work for QDR. But just like he said, I guess that even if the label asks radio to stop playing a single, they don't have to listen. I also saw this on QDR's Facebook... Jason Morris asked... So why is one station playing it, while another says it won't be out for months? QDR replied...947 QDR We respect Scotty and his record label so we will play by the rules. Meanwhile the other Raleigh station has spun this song enough to get it an auto add Monday... This is one of the biggest messes I've seen. I hate to repeat myself from my earlier post but I have never seen a label pull back on a song that stations actually wanted to play, especially from an artist like Scotty who has had to go "door to door" for years to convince radio to get behind him!

Scotty performing this at QDR today at an event before his show with the Rascal Flatts in Raleigh.
I saw the tour in Charlotte last night. Great show and the audience loved the new single. He said on stage "coming next month" so maybe it's been pushed to August.

I saw him last week and still announced this as being shipped to radio as his new single real soon. So I guess that's still the case, but out of all the new material he plaid, this was by far my least favorite, don't that that wrong I like this song a lot and a lot more than some stuff currently on the radio, but some of the other new stuff he played just sounded like instant hits ready to happen. I really hope this can help him break out.

^I really enjoyed Scotty's performance of this. I only heard the Soundcloud version that was posted a while back (so I can't judge on the single version yet) but this performance was quite nice. And, is that a steel guitar I see on stage. Nice to see those still exist in country music...LOL!

Damn this song is amazing! I'm hearing a smash hit, so hopefully that happens. Regardless, I literally can't wait for the studio to be released! Of all the songs to be mysteriously pushed back lol.

www.rollingstone.com/music/news/scotty-mccreery-on-southern-belle-this-is-as-far-left-as-well-go-20150810Scotty McCreery on 'Southern Belle': 'This Is as Far Left as We'll Go' Traditional country singer sheds a bit of his squeaky clean image with new single By Nancy Dunham August 10, 2015 "Southern Belle," the first single from Scotty McCreery's upcoming album, moves the baritone singer closer to the edge of the pop side of country. "She's Dukes of Hazzard in her daddy's car/Amazing Grace in a Mason jar," the 21-year-old sings in the tune, penned by Sean McConnell and Jason Saenz. McCreery nods when told that the lyrics seems a bit risqué for someone who is best known for squeaky clean, traditional country music and who wears a Christian "I Am Second" bracelet. "This is probably about as far left as we'll go," he tells Rolling Stone Country. "When my producer [Frank Rogers] heard it, he said, 'I think we can Scottify this.' There was one [reference to] hell that we changed. . . " He predicts those who listen to the entire album when it's released early next year will have a solid picture of who he is as a recording artist and songwriter. He's not a typical bro-country guy and not a wholly traditional performer either, but rather a hodgepodge of a lot of sounds heard on today's country radio. The North Carolina native hopes the new set of tunes will give fans a glimpse of his personality, as well. "I want them to get to know me," he answers when asked what he hopes fans will take away from "Southern Belle," which he debuted with a live performance on Fox and Friends last week. "The best way for me to communicate with them on a personal level is through my music. "I'm an old soul," he continues. "What makes me different is that I'm normal when so many things are crazy out there. I'm just an average Joe that loves to play country music and play baseball. I try to translate that through my music." McCreery did just that with the help of some of Nashville's top songwriters, spending every day of January and February writing for the new album in Music City. Although he felt a bit intimidated by working with seasoned veterans, some of whom are decades older than him, he was up to the challenge. "They have all the wisdom, and I want to be a sponge and soak it up," he says. "It's different when you're writing with guys that are new in town, just making their marks. When you're writing with [established songwriters], you really want to show them, 'I can do this.'" McCreery has been writing songs since he was a little kid. He recently found an old notebook containing lyrics he'd written between around ages 10 and 12 and looks back at them with laughter. One early song was titled "Can't Handle this Cowboy," written after a girl broke his heart in middle school. "She said she didn't like me anymore, and she went with some city slicker guy," he recalls. "I wrote that song and played it at a pool party against my better judgment. It was kind of a Taylor Swift breakup song before I had honed my craft. Looking back, though, it's pretty funny." The mature Scotty writes about his life with a more introspective, sophisticated approach. He speaks of a song he co-wrote for the new album, "In Between," which waxes poetic on his discomfort over fans considering him "a holier than thou guy." "I am human; I make mistakes. And I like to have fun. I'm just a regular guy," he insists. "The [co-writers] said, 'Yeah, you are not a holier than though guy and you're not a party guy. You're in between.' So we just ran with it."

I know y'all have discussed the improbability of him being the OTV pick, but the timing is interesting.
The new single was supposed to be released in early July. Got postponed with no explanation at all. Then they release the date as 8/24. Then he announces they want to release it a week earlier, on a Monday.
Maybe the same week the OTV pick is announced. Coincidence?

The add date is still 8/31. I'm thinking 2 weeks of his hardcore fan base buying it to get the most out of PDs who follow the Itunes chart to make decisions to add it on the first add day. Also encouraging early play too. We'll probably be seeing the promo banner in Monday's trades.
