The MTV Video Music Awards are slated for August 30, 2015. Not sure where.
"Blank Space" has got to be the frontrunner (or is it "Bad Blood"?). I think "Uptown Funk" will also get a Video of the Year nomination. When is the eligibility cutoff? Kendrick Lamar's "Alright" and Rihanna's "Bitch Better Have My Money" would be good inclusions in the top category as well.
Nominations: Tuesday, July 21, 2015, 10am Ceremony: Sunday, August 30, 2015 Host: Miley Cyrus
Contenders below
Beyonce - "7/11" Big Sean - "IDFWU," "Blessings" Fetty Wap - "Trap Queen" Florence + The Machine - "What Kind of Man" Ariana Grande - "Break Free," "Love Me Harder" Hozier - "Take Me to Church" iLoveMakonnen - "Tuesday" jack U - "Where Are U Now" Nick Jonas - "Jealous" Kendrick Lamar - "i," "King Kunta," "Alright" Madonna - "Bitch, I'm Madonna" Maroon 5 - "Sugar," "Animals" Nicki Minaj - "Anaconda," "Feeling Myself" Omi - "Cheerleader" One Direction - "Steal My Girl" Rihanna - "FourFiveSeconds," "Bitch Better Have My Money" Mark Ronson - "Uptown Funk" Ed Sheeran - "Thinking Out Loud" Sia - "Elastic Heart," "Big Girls Cry," "Fire Meets Gasoline" Britney Spears - "Pretty Girls" Taylor Swift - "Blank Space," "Bad Blood (Remix)," "Shake it Off" Meghan Trainor - "All About That Bass" Walk the Moon - "Shut Up and Dance" The Weeknd - "Earned It" Kanye West - "Only One," "All Day" Wiz Khalifa - "See You Again"

A lot of interesting videos this year. Anxious to see who's performing, and who's getting nominated. Taylor could possibly sweep.

I wonder who will be the random Video of the Year nominee they tend to have every year.
2003 - Johnny Cash "Hurt" 2004 - none 2005 - none 2006 - "Ain't No Other Man" was kinda random 2007 - Justice "DANCE" 2008 - All nominees were so WTF and random in a bad way. Such a messy year. 2009 - none 2010 - "Dog Days Are Over" 2011 - Tyler the Creater for eating a cockroach. 2012 - "Bad Girls" 2013 - none 2014 - none
Ok, so maybe the year of random nominee will not happen this year but I hope.

It made sense when I read last year's nominees but at the very least, I was pleasantly surprised to see "Chandelier" nominated...so that could count? It continued to grow after the nomination, it wasn't the CLASSIC it is now at this time a year ago.

Random Nominee-Carly Rae Jepsen-I Really Like You. MTV likes to surprise with always random nominee. Taylor Swift's "Blank Space" will dominate the night with tons of wins. Nothing comes close to it.

I wonder who will be the random Video of the Year nominee they tend to have every year. 2003 - Johnny Cash "Hurt" That wasn't random at all if you watched MTV back then, it also won a Grammy

My off-the-top-of-my-head prediction is
Video of the Year "Trap Queen" by Fetty Wap "Alright" by Kendrick Lamar "Uptown Funk" by Mark Ronson & Bruno Mars "Blank Space" by Taylor Swift "All About That Bass" by Meghan Trainor

I'm expecting either "Uptown Funk" or a Taylor Swift video to win VOTY. Taylor will probably have the most nods.

As long as you had a hit song, a nomination in that category was guaranteed and "Hurt" was not a hit song and it was also from a country artist.

Well one can disagree if it was a hit song or not, I'd say it was, but not a traditional pop hit on radio of course. It certainly made its mark.
But what you said about randomness in 2008 is very true. The male video category was much better than the Video of the year category.

So excited for Miley hosting. I'd love it if it meant a new single premiere or something.

Those nominations are very good. If only they had had Blank Space nominated for VOTY (because it's a lot better video than BB)
Taylor will obviously perform too, she has a small break from tour.
