Writers: Brandy Clark, Jennifer Nettles and Jessie Jo Dillon. iTunes Release: July 24th Radio Release; July 27th ** The picture of Jennifer isn't an official picture but rather a picture posted from the single/album photoshoot. It felt fitting for the song.

"Land". You knew someone had to do it, lol. Oh believe me, I typed that the first time but caught myself before I posted it. It's just out of habit. I guess ha.
I heard a snippet of the song it's super catchy and tongue in cheek. One of the lines is about guys wanting a taste of her cherry pie but she's never ever gonna give'em a piece. But over all it's a little more country than the songs from That Girl but still had a little pop to it. Though I'm not sure if that was because of The Roots who were her backing band tonight or not. No word on when it'll be out to radio.

This isn't the best video as it's recorded off a tv by someone in a facebook group I'm in. But here is the new song in full. I'll post a better video when I find one and add that to the first post.

Oh. This one's going to be polarizing. What exactly does that mean? Is that meaning that the song will either be a love it or hate it, no in between for people or something else completely? I've heard it used on the board before but never clearly understood it!

She has an incredible instrument. I can't help but seeing her breakthrough hit as a solo artist being a stripped down ballad a la "Stay".

Thanks carriekins. I just wanted to double check.
ETA: Jennifer stated on QVC tonight that the single will be out in a few weeks. She's almost done with the recording process and the album will be out in the fall.

Looks as if the single will be sent to radio next week. No word if the add date time table will be then as well or just a sent out to radio time table.

I'm so ready for this. Jennifer's debut album was fantastic, as was Sugarland's first three albums. Country radio may not take notice, but I know I'll be playing "Sugar" a lot on my iPod.

She's an incredible vocalist, but I only like he vocals when I like the song. I'm not sure I liked what I head in the clip, but I'll give the studio a chance. It sounds like it could be catchy.

Won't bother listening to the live audios, but I'm looking forward to hearing this. I didn't care for "That Girl" and Sugarland's music went downhill for me, particularly with their final album era, but I do love Jennifer's voice and would be happy to have a reason to root for her again. I'd like to see her score a solo hit if they're going to continue to keep Sugarland on the back burner (I wish they'd just go back to that though). She has an incredible instrument. I can't help but seeing her breakthrough hit as a solo artist being a stripped down ballad a la "Stay". Could be the time for that to happen with "Girl Crush" slaying and "Burning House" possibly looking to follow suit.

A station in Jacksonville tweeted they had a very advance copy of the single and tested it this morning for listeners. Was it sent out to all stations this morning or just a select few? I'm just ready to hear the studio version to see how it sounds compared to the version backed by The Roots.
In other news, Jennifer filmed her acting debut last week in Lousiana for a show that begins airing in January. I'm 99% sure about the project due to a crew member slipping up on it the last day after she was super vague in tweets all week. I'd rather not say what it is but it's be a big departure for Jennifer and nothing like what she has done in her music or in Chicago. Let's just say it's period drama show about a big historical event and leave it at that. She also is on Kenny Roger's new Christmas album. So many things are going on for her it seems as of right now.

I'm not usually one for period/history pieces, but this wouldn't be the first time Jennifer has changed my mind Looks like girlfriend can add tv star to her resume...

Looking forward to this! I've loved nearly everything that I've heard from her (and Sugarland) so far.

I just heard Sugar on a New York station. Very funky, fun and a lot friendlier to me than That Girl was for radio/every day listeners. It kind of had the sing along factor of All I Want to Do and reminded me a good bit of Sugarland with Jennifer's solo flair to it. It had very definite reviews from listeners - either very harsh or very positive. It's different compared to a lot of the other female artists and what was played after it on that station. But to me, I like that because it can get a bit repetitive with the themes/sounds so it's nice to hear something a little different. StillTheSame I have a feeling it's for the video and could easily imagine it from what the song sounded like with the studio version. We'll have to see though.

WBEE put this up as their "Music Meeting Song of the Day" this afternoon, so we should get the studio version and add date very shortly. They had this as the cover art, but I don't know if this is the actual cover art.

FWIW Jennifer is now on EMI Records Nashville, NOT Mercury. -- It is the actual cover art. Here's one that's not as pixelized.

rsmatto I changed it to yours. Hopefully it looks clearer like that. I didn't get the pixelated on my laptop or phone with the original one. I wonder what brought the switch though between label branches.

rsmatto I changed it to yours. Hopefully it looks clearer like that. I didn't get the pixelated on my laptop or phone with the original one. I wonder what brought the switch though between label branches. It probably depended on the age of your laptop and how HD the screen is. I notice subtle graphics because of staring at images all day. As for the label, It makes sense, if you think about it. EMI's promo team really only has Eric Church, Alan Jackson and Bros. Osborne to promote right now. Haley Georgia's single hasn't been worked to radio (I doubt they'd even try "Ridiculous"), Eric Paslay's in between projects and who knows when/if we'll get another Kelleigh Brannen single. So shifting Jennifer there out of the logjam at Mercury was smart as Mercury's got a Easton, Canaan, Billy C, Scotty, Kacey Musgraves, Chris Stapleton and future Lauren Alaina project. So Mercury has 6 Current (and new) projects they're working while EMI has 4 when you include Jennifer (and Eric Church's record may be done after the current single and, AJ's single really won't get too far up the charts. So really that leaves 3 real projects with Haley Georgia and possibly Eric Paslay in the pipeline for future singles before '15 is over.

That definitely makes sense though. Thanks for breaking that down for me, rsmatto. I figured it was more of a load on the label thing than anything else but I wanted to clarify. Hopefully this helps her chances of this being a little more successful than That Girl. The song as a whole to me feels a lot more radio friendly than That Girl was. I get why they chose that song even though it was against what Jennifer wanted for the first single. I remember her saying after it faltered and dropped from the charts that it wouldn't have been her choice of the first song and it was all the label because they wanted something drastically different than Sugarland which That Girl was. I still wonder if they went with something else first if it would have fared better than what That Girl did. But this single definitely, to me at least, feels a lot more her choice and friendlier. I'm looking forward to hearing what else this new project has to offer.

Given the success of Sugarland in the past with similar songs, if Radio wants to get back in the game of Jennifer Nettles (having her voice on the radio), this one definitely will do pretty well. The fact that she's even releasing a pop-leaning track instead of the rootsier stuff that was on "That Girl" should help it too. Also, she's working with Dann Huff (at least for this song).
