I just discovered this song a few days ago and I'm hooked and yeah, my mind was also blown when they said she was Rob Schneider's daughter. Although, I read somewhere that she was basically raised by her mom, which is reflected by her choosing to take her mother's last name so I guess that explains a lot.

So, a female [Hot AC/Alt] singer-songwriter [Rachel Platten/Elle King] scores a crossover hit with songwriter Dave Bassett ([Fight Song/Ex's and Oh's]); destroys a male rival from their same home format on iTunes [Honey, I'm Good/Renegades] despite the male song doing much better on streaming and slightly ahead on radio; ultimately becoming a sales-dependent hit, and is quickly written off as a one-hit wonder due to being too [generic/left-field] for sustained pop success and the novelty of [breaking though at 34/being Rob Schneider's daughter] only works once. Yowch, it's like we're seeing the same song all over again.

"Exes and Oh's" is far edgier and more alternative than "Renegades," "Honey I'm Good," and most definitely "Fight Song." I can't include this song in such a parallel.

I'm just pointing out a few basic coincidences. But yeah, it's a garage-rock song and the only reason it's catching on with the mainstream is because it's by a female. Both this and "Royals" caught on with the mainstream much faster than the recent male alternative crossovers.

That might be true, but it seems to be on a song by song basis. Just before "Royals," we had Gotye and fun. blow up, not mention last year's "Take Me to Church."
"Exes and Oh's" feels to be in that tier of songs, and time will tell. I think it will end up being bigger than Grammar, Platten, and X Ambassadors. Even so, I would say "Fight Song" and "Honey I'm Good" are very similarly sized hits.

But Gotye's song was already an international smash when it blew up in the U.S. Plus fun and Hozier took off after being featured in viral ads. "Royals" and "Ex's and Oh's" took off all on their own. Anyway, how big do you think this'll be? And will this open the door to more garage-rock crossovers or will it be a one-off?

I think it's a multi-week Hot 100 #1 smash. It's got all the ingredients.

This is taking off very well! I finally got into it too. It's a catchy little tune!
It reminds me a lot of "Sweet About Me" by Gabriella Cilmi.

And I thought I was the only one who remembered that song! They definitely sound quite similar. But Elle already has the much bigger hit of the two, at least here in the U.S. "Sweet About Me" was a much bigger world wide hit.

Amazing. Got its biggest day-to-day spincrease (+271) today. It really stole a great chunk of Renegades' buzz. If she doesn't dethrone them from #1 on tomorrow's Hot Rock Songs, she's taking over next week and could likely have another Radioactive/Royals/TMTC/SUAD-length reign. Only bad sign is that streaming is weak. Its metrics look a lot like Fight Song's ATM (fun fact: they have the same writer) but Callouts are very good assuring that Radio's not going to resist it.

The video was in two music channels (Alternative and New artists) of the United Airlines flight I took from DC to Tokyo (business class). Then I heard it also in the Narita airport. Not a problem since I love the song!

Well it took a long time to figure out, but with her we finally have the answer for why Rob Schneider needed to exist.

The performance of this on Itunes is truly impressive. Holding steady near the top 5 when you have the onslaught of Adele and Justin as well as heavily promoted new singles from technically much bigger stars...just amazing. Hopefully radio will reward it. The airplay seemed a bit more affected by Adele/Justin than other releases that are selling significantly worse.
