Well, never thought I'd be saying this, but I'm doing a weekly chart now. I debuted it last Monday-ish just in the Weekly Rock Personal Charts thread, but I wanted to make my own thread so I can have more room to ramble .
So yeah, I'll be updating this every Monday until I get bored with it. So I'm not sure how long I'll actually maintain this. I kind of keep a loose Top 100 chart, but I don't feel like keeping up with 100 positions every week, so I'll just post the Top 60 positions.

Debuts:
I have four songs debuting this week. Starting out the highest is “Waves” by one of my all-time favorite bands, The Dear Hunter. The symphonic-progressive group (fronted by vocalist, director and multi-instrumentalist Casey Crescenzo) will release Act IV: Rebirth in Reprise this September. I'm really excited for this one. “Waves” has more of an indie rock sound to it than the first song released from this album “A Night in the Town” (a 9 minute long symphonic epic). If you're into progressive rock, symphonic rock, or even post-hardcore you should give this band a listen to. They're great.
Secondly, pop punk group The Wonder Years are debuting in the Top 50 with “Cardinals”, the first single from their fifth studio album No Closer to Heaven which will be released the same day as the aforementioned Dear Hunter album (September 4). Not too familiar with this group yet, but I have a friend who's a big fan, so I thought I'd give 'em a listen. I'm really loving this song.
Debuting at #58 is Courtney Barnett's “Dead Fox”. Haven't listened to the entirety of Sometimes I Sit and Think and Sometimes I Just Sit yet, but I loved “Pedestrian at Best”, and this one's growing on me as well. I really like Courtney's kind of grungy, spoken word style. I love the music video for this song too. It's really creative and has a neat style of animation.
Finally, Albert Hammond Jr. (rhythm guitarist from The Strokes) is debuting at #59 this week with “Losing Touch”, the lead single from his third solo album Momentary Masters which will be released at the end of this month.
Dropping Out- Since this is only my second week doing a chart, my recurrent rules are going to be kind of weird for awhile. When I finally have some more time under my belt, they'll be the same as Billboard, but for now, I'm just kind of purging stuff I'm tired of and probably would have been on this chart for 20 weeks if I had gone back that far:
My Type- Saint Motel, #24
I Should Have Known Better- Sufjan Stevens, #48
The Vengeful One- Disturbed, #58
2 Heads- Coleman Hell, #59
Bubbling Under (first five songs under the Top 60 that I haven't actually charted yet):
Wolves and Doors- Finger Eleven
The Ghosts of Beverly Drive- Death Cab for Cutie
I Can Change- Brandon Flowers
Virgins- Death from Above 1979
Two Years- Have Mercy
New & Rising- These are songs I debuted in my Top 100 this week and will probably be in my Top 60 within a few weeks:
Cross My Heart- Awaken the Empire
Baby Don't You Lie to Me- The Fratellis
You Got Spirit Kid- Coheed & Cambria
4- Ricky Montgomery ft. Midwestern Accent
Lean On- Major Lazer & DJ Snake ft. MO
Weekly Recommendation- Every week I'll have a featured track or album, along with a kind of “half review”. I don't want to start a review thread, as I want this to be a weekly bonus to my chart rather than its own thing. Bear with me if I get long-winded. This will basically just be me recommending more obscure artists or songs that I happen to be liking at the moment and doesn't really have anything to do with my chart.
Les Friction, 2012
Wanted to start this off with one of the most criminally underrated band of this decade. Les Friction are an epic symphonic rock group made up of Helmut Vonlichten, Nihl Finch, and vocalist Paint.
Helmut Vonlichten and his brother Franz were the masterminds behind the project E.S. Posthumus, famous for their modern classical-electronic hybrid used frequently in movie trailers, television, etc. Kind of an epic symphonic rock hybrid. Sadly Franz passed away in 2010, which ended E.S. Posthumus. Les Friction is Helmut's big project following his brother's death. Their debut album captures the same symphonic grandeur (I kind of feel like a loser typing that...) of E.S. Posthumus, but with a more alternative, radio-friendly sound.
Throughout their career, Les Friction have only released 11 songs, but they are all phenomenal. They achieve a wide variety of sound as well. Louder Than Words, Torture, World on Fire, and String Theory (the first two have actually been used in movie trailers before, I think) have that epic cinematic sound that you'd hear in an E.S. Posthumus or Two Steps from Hell song, whereas Sunday, Come Back to Me (maybe. This one's kind of different from the rest of the album) and What You Need are poppier indie rock tracks that I think could have probably performed well on Alt radio with the right promotion; and Here Comes the Reign and Save Your Life are heavier, more electronic, and more traditional rockers.
But I digress. I have the whole album linked above if you want to check it out.
So that's about. I'm still new to this whole personal chart thing, so if I'm doing something unorthodox or weird let me know.
