I LOVE this...probably my favorite country single of 2015. They're so good. Can't wait for the record.

Why cant artists like this just be honest & have a little truth in advertising? Theres absolutely nothing tying this to country music. Nothing. Nada. Zip. I'm just so over the dishonesty of the music business. Theres virtually nobody left in mainstream that gives a damn about actual country music anymore.

And Scotty McCreery. He's 21 and sings a classic Country medley at all his shows, sings Conway and George at the Opry, and has vowed his new album will be traditional leaning with only a few "left" tracks for radio. Business is business if you want a hit, but many artists still love and do record real Country music and would love to release it to radio if it was "allowed."

Awful.
Big Machine is the label where country music goes to die. They have an inate talent for taking what is cool and unique about their artists and sucking all of the life out of it.
Tbp were great. Unfortunately i get the same feeling about this as i did when i heard "turn in on" by eyb.
Pandering.

I don't listen to a lot of mainstream country songs unless @drag27 makes me but I'm listening to this one now and I like it. But if I was randomly hearing it without knowing who it was by, I don't even know if I'd guess that it was a country single tbh. It honestly reminds me of Roxette as done by Avril Lavigne.

After hearing this a couple more times.. Not country at all. Sam Hunt level pop-ness, and I hope it bombs at radio (don't predict it unfortunately.) But, I do really enjoy it as a record overall.

While I do agree this is not country I still like it! And I think it can re surge their momentum at radio after chainsaw stalled if they just promote it right and go back to the music that made us be fans of theirs! I'll take this over chase rice FGL Luke Bryan Blake .... Mediocracy #sorrynorsorry

If you're expecting tracks like "If I Die Young", "You Lie" and "Postcard From Paris", I think you'll be disappointed. Judging by the day 1 reaction on iTunes, I don't think this will come close to matching the opening week sales of "Better Dig Two" (though that song was helped out by a CMA performance).

I'm still obsessed w/ this and have had it on repeat for the past 2 days. It is poppy, but not much more than songs like Crash and Burn, Sun Daze or Strip it Down. I honestly would've never in a million years imaged that a song could come out in the Country genre this year better than Girl Crush, but I may like this one better.

Man, this is pure MAGIC. I am feeling this so much. Fantastic song. The Band Perry proves to me once again that they cannot be put in a box and can make incredible music that covers a wide spectrum of sounds. I'm really impressed with the outcome of this. I was a little worried that this may not turn out well but I'm glad that any of those reservations have been proven wrong as "Live Forever" is a tour de force of catchiness and I can't wait to see this become a monumental cross-genre smash and hopefully launch them to the next level of superstardom. This band is just too good to not be way bigger than it currently is! Oh and that music video is fantastic, too. I really enjoyed the stage setup and the bright colors, and the yellow ink was an interesting idea to toy with. Kimberly looked amazing, too. <33

always find them quite pop, so i have no doubt they are going to crossover to pop anyday, and they deserve more success than just country can make them

It's poppy but I really like this! TBP's always had crossover potential, and this one sounds like it's more geared into the pop direction they're attempting with the new album. I think this can go all the way to the top, or at least top 10. It's not too pop compared to what country radio plays these days (especially Sam Hunt).

CBS just played a few seconds of "Live Forever" during it's 2015 PGA Championship golf coverage. This song seems TaylorMade for that kind of thing.

What I'm most struck by with "Live Forever" is how it lands The Band Perry in the same category as Thomas Rhett and Jake Owen, partly because their current singles are all major departures from their previous hits and partly because their current singles to country radio don't even pretend to be country. Just as importantly, when I listen to their three singles, I hear hits but what I don't hear is artists putting their indelible stamp on material that could only be their own. Rather, I hear followers (as sgtoddball pointed out with respect to Jake Owen in the "Real Life" thread), and I hear artists who don't quite know what to do with themselves as they search for a hit. For mainstream country to have three of its major rising stars out with new music that shows little connection to what they do best, no connection to country music, and few signs that they have a clue what their strengths are is both utterly symbolic of the state of country right now and kind of worrying. The whole thing is most baffling and most disappointing in the case of The Band Perry because of the talent level involved, but also because they had what I thought was an emerging identity through their biggest hits, "If I Die Young" and "Better Dig Two" - Southern Gothic-laced lyrics over melodies that combine folk, pop and country, delivered by a lead singer whose husky tone, airy but firm delivery, and flat phrasing made for an interesting combination of innocence and unyielding commitment. Pioneer as an album, the singles after "Better Dig Two" in particular, strayed from that identity, and I thought its lost momentum after the success of its lead single was in large part because The Band Perry got away from the identity that works for them. Now, I also understand not wanting to be pigeon-holed into the "Gothic folk" identity, and I understand not wanting to get into the habit of releasing the same song over and over again -- I've complained about some of country radio's most successful current artists rehashing past hits with little to nothing fresh added. But The Band Perry's debut had enough variety among the singles, I thought, and showed plenty of space to carry forward the folksiness of their lyrics and Kimberly's vocal delivery while expanding their lyrical palette. To throw all of that out for something like "Live Forever," where Kimberly's phrasing is barely recognizable, where there was barely any effort to connect the chorus to the (somewhat Band Perryish but still underdeveloped ) verses, and which any number of pop singers could sing, is just a bizarre decision. Admittedly, Thomas Rhett clearly has a hit for himself despite him barely being able to sing "Crash & Burn." But I don't see how a hit that is a hit for reasons that have little to do with the unique abilities and tendencies of the artist delivering it is a winning strategy in the long term. And with the early sales response to "Live Forever" looking tepid at best, it will be interesting to see if it turns out to be a winning strategy for The Band Perry at all.

I wasn't expecting to love this based on the preview, but I got my hopes up a little bit when I saw so many positive reactions to "Live Forever."
Damn was I ever disappointed.
It's a sad day when anyone even tries to label something like this as even remotely "Country."
I'm a huge supporter of all things Country music, and I consider myself a fan of a wide range of artists and styles, from George Strait and Alan Jackson to Kacey Musgraves & Ashley Monroe to Carrie Underwood & Rascal Flatts.
I'm not too keen on arguing what is (or isn't), Country, because I listen to a wide spectrum myself.
That said, I always respected TBP for their unique sound and blend of modern and traditional Country elements.
"Live Forever" goes against everything I respect about TBP, from their unique sound and low-key style, to their ability to retain their idenity.
This song is faceless, bland and basically screams "hit factory" Katy Perry esq Pop with it's annoying singalong chorus, cheesy lyrics and flashy club video.
I don't expect every artist to be pure Country, but TBP has lost everything unique and heartfelt about their music, and I can't get behind that.

Just thought of something ironic.
If this can crack the top 50 on pop (I feel pretty confident it will.), their two biggest hit in the pop world would be If I Die Young and Live Forever.

I think this is a good pop song, but there is not one single thing about this that sounds even remotely country, so I'm somewhat perplexed that some have called this the perfect blend of country and pop. This is 100% pop...no country instruments to be found here. The fact that TBP has previously made country music does not make this a country song.
This is a huge departure for The Band Perry, that's for sure. However, with that said, I do think this is a song that today's "country" radio will play. I've only listened once, though, so I don't think I'm ready to predict that this will be a #1. It definitely sounds tailor-made to cross-over to Pop, though.

(Yes, this is Kimberly Perry's real Twitter. She just created it a day or two ago, hence the temporarily-missing verification.)

Seems like she's getting overly defensive. And anyway, acoustic guitar and live drums aren't exclusive to country...they're in literally every genre, lol. The mandolin is definitely a country instrument, but if it's in "Live Forever", it's buried so deep that I can't hear it.
I like the song for what it is -- a good pop song -- but I'm with the guy that Kimberly was responding to. This doesn't sound country in the slightest.
