Chart Notes: Sorry for being late this week! We have a new #1 (which also happens to be the birthday #1, since my birthday was the 23rd; lol at me dethroning my favorite artist on my birthday week), Belgian DJ Netsky's "Rio" (featuring Digital Farm Animals) shoots 10-1 this week to claim his first #1. This is the biggest jump to #1 since Ed Sheeran's "Photograph" jumped 11-1 back in the beginning of August. Also, this is the first D&B (drum & bass) song to hit #1 on my chart ever. Sigma came the closest with "Glitterball", which falls 24-31 this week after having peaked at #4. "Rio" dethrones the three-week #1 "Wildest Dreams" down to #3, while Jess Glynne holds at #2 for the fourth consecutive week with "Don't Be So Hard On Yourself". Two new songs enter the top 10, R. City's "Locked Away" (featuring Adam Levine), which jumps 14-6, and Kacey Musgraves' "Dime Store Cowgirl", moving 17-9. "Dime Store Cowgirl" marks Kacey Musgraves' sixth straight top 10 out of six chart entries. However, she has never hit #1 with any of her singles, with "Blowin' Smoke" being the highest peaker at #2. (I still wonder to this day why that one peaked the highest but oh well.)
The Greatest Gainer for this week is last week's Hot Shot Debut song, "Same Old Love" by Selena Gomez, which jumps 91-53. Meanwhile, her previous single, "Good for You", falls 68-76. Both songs are from Selena's upcoming album,
Revival. There are not many songs making big jumps this week especially in the upper half of the chart. In the lower half, Jake Owen's "Real Life" zooms 83-54, David Nail's "Night's On Fire" jumps 86-66, and X Ambassadors' "Renegades" reverses course, moving 96-77.
The Hot Shot Debut this week is Ellie Goulding's "On My Mind" coming in at #23. This is actually her best start on this chart, breaking the previous record for her held by her 4-week #1, "Love Me Like You Do" (which slips 47-48 this week), which started at #28. Also making a big splash on the chart is Brad Paisley's "Country Nation", debuting at #60. This is the fourth single from his album
Moonshine in the Trunk, which has produced two top 10 singles, "Perfect Storm" (#5) and "Crushin' It" (#6). Another notable debut at #97 is French singer Louane's "Avenir", which is shaping up to be a hit in Germany right now. This song becomes the first song sung in French to enter the chart, continuing the recent trend of songs in different languages other than English charting.
