This new version is a special remix made by Swedish record producer and deejay Avicii. “Insomnia” was one of the most successful singles of the band. It was originally released in 1995 and became a hit in Dance Charts and was voted by Mixmag readers as the fifth greatest dance record of all time. Until the remix arrives, we can enjoy the official and mythical original version
I was a big fan of this the first time around. It got a lot of airplay on the local stations via the Monster Mix which was basically a re-arranged, re-structured version of the album version. The album version is more of a suite beginning with the clock tower sounds leading into that spooky drum intro with the ticking and then it builds to that haunting orchestral section and then the beats come in and then finally the vocals and the riff. The Monster Mix was built around two sections containing the riff and it had the vocals sandwiched in between them. There were countless remixes of the song, both good and bad. I liked the Armand Van Helden European Vacation mix. One of the drum loops from that went on to be sampled numerous times (remixer Ford used that loop in his remixes a lot). I also liked the bootleg DJ Stew white label which was a really short mix based on th e riff. I am curious about this new version.

The Avicii remix is out now
Above & Beyond, Booka Shade, and Tiesto have also produced new remixes. A&B also produced a remix of Faithless' "Salva Mea" which has been played in a few sets, but has never been released in full.
I am disappointed by Avicii's remix. I don't like how the vocals have been pitched down, even though they are spoken, they sound different at the lower pitch. The electro build ups and the beats just don't fit that well. I only like how the riff sounds. But that's it.

Nope. This is an uber classic that needed no touching. Not even/especially not from Avicii. Like Disco said, it just doesn't fit.
This adds nothing to the song to warrant a 2.0.
